About Milan Malpensa Airport

Milan Malpensa, IATA code MXP, is northern Italy's main gateway and the country's second-busiest airport after Rome Fiumicino. It sits about 49km northwest of central Milan and handled 28.9 million passengers in 2024. Its official name since July 2024 is Milan Malpensa "Silvio Berlusconi" Airport. It is also Italy's busiest airport for cargo.

Two terminals, opened more than two decades apart. Terminal 1, the larger of the two, opened in 1998 and runs three concourses - A for domestic and Schengen flights, B for non-Schengen and intercontinental routes, and C for flights to the USA and Israel. Terminal 2 reopened in May 2023 and is built around easyJet, which runs its largest base here.

Malpensa is far more than a Milan airport. It is the practical starting point for the Italian Lakes - Como and Maggiore are both within an hour - and the gateway to the Aosta Valley ski resorts. It also works as a launch point west toward the French Riviera and north toward the Swiss border. The main road into the city is the A8 motorway, the "Autostrada dei Laghi."

The main carriers here are easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Neos. That low-cost and leisure mix is why the terminal split matters so much: a large share of arriving passengers come through T2 on easyJet, while everyone else lands at T1.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does my private transfer driver meet me at Milan Malpensa?
Your driver waits inside your terminal's arrivals on the ground floor, holding a board with your name. At T1 that is the arrivals hall after baggage reclaim and customs; at T2 it is the arrivals area, where most easyJet passengers land. This is a licensed NCC private hire driver, not the white taxi rank outside, so skip the taxi queue and look for the name board.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Your carrier monitors your flight and adjusts the pickup time to your actual landing. Share your flight number when you book and there is nothing else to do. We keep an eye on your flight so a late arrival does not mean a missed driver.
How long does it take from Milan Malpensa to Milan city centre?
About 45 to 60 minutes for the roughly 49km run down the A8, depending on traffic. Add time during weekday rush hours. The Malpensa Express train does it in around 50 minutes, but a private transfer is door to door - no change at Cadorna or Centrale and no wrestling luggage onto a platform.
What is the starting price for a transfer from Milan Malpensa?
It depends on your destination, vehicle, and group size, and the price is fixed when you book rather than metered. For central Milan the market typically runs around EUR 95 to 110, and a fixed transfer price beats a variable taxi meter for budgeting. Longer hauls cost more - the live Cannes route, for example, starts from EUR 300.
Can I get a transfer from Malpensa to Lake Como or the ski resorts?
Yes. Lake Como is about 51km and 50 to 60 minutes away. There is no direct train to Como - you would need at least one change, around 1h30 in total - which is why a door-to-door transfer makes sense with bags. Malpensa is also the gateway to the Aosta Valley resorts like Cervinia and Courmayeur, good for groups travelling with ski gear.
What is the cancellation policy?
Standard bookings can be cancelled free of charge more than 24 hours before your scheduled pickup. For peak date travel - the last Saturday of December, the first Saturday of January, and the first three Saturdays of February - the free cancellation window extends to 72 hours before pickup. Cancellations inside these windows carry a 100% fee. Full terms shown before you confirm your booking.

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
