No train, one road, and a real border
Andorra has no railway and never had one, and it has no airport. The only way in is the road, and from Spain every road ends on the N-145 from La Seu d'Urgell; the usual route there is the C-16 through the Cadí tunnel. Andorra is not in the European Union, so the frontier is a customs post, not a sign by the road. EU citizens need a passport or national ID card, and other travellers a valid passport.
Tell your carrier the town and the hotel. Soldeu is about 20 km beyond Andorra la Vella, and Pal Arinsal is a different valley.
About This Transfer
You get into the car at Barcelona Airport, T1 or T2, and the driver heads north for the C-16. Barcelona Airport to Andorra la Vella is about 203 km and 2h 50min in free flow: the C-16 through the Cadí tunnel, the N-260 west to La Seu d'Urgell, and the N-145 over the frontier. Andorra la Vella, the capital, sits at 1,023 m, and the car goes on to your hotel there or up the valley to Grandvalira or Pal Arinsal.
It is a long transfer, and the road is the only way to make it. Andorra has no railway; the nearest station is in France, at L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre. The drive has a toll tunnel and a frontier on it: the Cadí tunnel costs €14.56 for a car in 2026, and Andorra is outside the European Union, so the frontier is a customs post.
A direct coach does run from both terminals. By its operator's own figures it takes 3 hours to 3 hours 45 minutes, from about €31.50 a seat, and it ends at the Andorra la Vella bus station. That is a fare per person and a fixed departure: a family of four pays four fares, waits for the next coach if the flight is late, and in Soldeu or Arinsal still needs a second vehicle for the last stretch, with the ski bags. A private car is one price for the whole vehicle and leaves when you land.

Montserrat
The Benedictine abbey on the mountain of Montserrat was founded in 1025, and a Benedictine community still lives there. It is 17.9 km and about 25 minutes off the C-16 from Sant Vicenç de Castellet, which makes it a stop for the return leg on a day with no flight to catch rather than for an arrival with ski bags.

The C-16 goes under the Cadí-Moixeró range in a 5,026 m tunnel opened in 1984. Above it is the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, 41,060 hectares of mountain protected since 1983 across Alt Urgell, Berguedà and Cerdanya, with the Vulturó at 2,648 m as its highest point.

La Seu d'Urgell is the last Spanish town on the road and the seat of the Bishop of Urgell, one of Andorra's two co-princes. Beside its old centre is the whitewater course built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, 300 m long, which has since hosted the canoe slalom world championships in 1999, 2009 and 2019.

Pickup: Barcelona Airport (BCN), T1 or T2
Barcelona has two terminals, T1 and T2, and they are separate buildings: a free shuttle bus links them 24 hours a day, every 5 to 10 minutes depending on the hour. Tell the carrier which terminal your flight uses. At T1, Aena sends chauffeur-driven cars to the VTC meeting point on floor -1 of the T1 car park, not to the taxi rank on the ground floor. At T2 Aena publishes no general chauffeur point, only per-app points on floor 0 of the express car parks and terminals, so your carrier confirms the exact spot in the booking chat before you fly. The terminal changes the drive by a few minutes, not the plan.

Drop-off: Andorra la Vella, Grandvalira and Pal Arinsal
Andorra la Vella is the default drop, the capital at 1,023 m. Grandvalira's villages run east up the CG-2 through Encamp and Canillo to El Tarter, Soldeu and Pas de la Casa; Soldeu is about 20 km and 25 minutes beyond the capital. Pal Arinsal is in La Massana, and its two sectors, Pal and Arinsal, are separate entrances. A booking that says Andorra needs to say which town.

Best Travel Times
Grandvalira and Pal Arinsal both plan to open for 2026/27 on 4 December and close on 4 April, weather permitting, and the lifts run from 09:00 to 17:00. Everything bound for Andorra from Spain uses the same last 20 km, La Seu d'Urgell to Andorra la Vella, so the arrival days of the ski season load one road and one frontier. The quieter weeks are the ones either side of the season, and from 1 November the winter-equipment rule applies to them too.
Traffic Patterns
About 134 km of the drive is the C-16, from Barcelona to beyond the Cadí tunnel. The last 20 km, La Seu d'Urgell to Andorra la Vella, is the N-145 and the frontier. Nobody publishes a Saturday or snow-day drive time for this road, so treat any figure you are quoted as a carrier's estimate. Past the capital, the CG-2 to the Grandvalira villages is the road every skier staying up the valley shares.
Road & Border Notes
There are tolls and there is a border. The C-16 is tolled from the Vallvidrera tunnels to Manresa, and the Cadí tunnel costs €14.56 for a car in 2026, or €31.78 for a two-axle vehicle on twin rear wheels. A carrier can skip both on the A-2, the C-1412a through Calaf and Ponts and the C-14 up the Segre: about 214 km and about 30 minutes longer. The frontier is a customs post, because Andorra is outside the European Union. In Andorra, winter tyres or chains are obligatory from 1 November to 15 May.
Carrier Tip
Give the carrier the town and the hotel, not just Andorra, and the terminal your flight lands at. Ask whether the offer includes the Cadí toll or routes round it, and say how many ski bags there are, because that decides the vehicle.
