About This Transfer

The pickup is at the hotel door in Constanța or Mamaia, and within minutes the car is on the A2, the Autostrada Soarelui, on the edge of the city. About 200 km of motorway follow, back across the Danube between Cernavodă and Fetești, before the Bucharest ring road carries the car round the city to Otopeni without entering the center. The whole run is about 241 km and takes about 2h 50min in free-flowing traffic.

For the flight, that sets the clock: leave Constanța at least 4h 50min before departure, the drive plus the 2 hours TAROM asks passengers to allow at the airport, and more on a summer weekend, when the Danube crossing is the slow point. There is no toll on the way. The Fetești bridge toll was abolished on 1 October 2026, and the rovinieta, Romania's road vignette, is the carrier's.

The train is the harder way to catch a flight. Every rail trip to the airport changes at București Nord, with the cases carried across the station, and the first train from Constanța leaves at 05:30.

For every run to and from the terminal, see our Bucharest Airport transfers page, and our airport transfers page explains how pickup times, flight tracking and group size shape a quote.

Route Overview

Pickup: Constanța, Mamaia and the coast

The driver collects you at the hotel or apartment door anywhere in Constanța or Mamaia. Mamaia is a strip about 8 km long between the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol, and from Mamaia the drive is about 247 km, still about 2h 50min, so give the hotel name and address.

Popular Pickup Points:

  • • Hotels and apartments in central Constanța
  • • The peninsula, near Piața Ovidiu and the Casino
  • • Mamaia hotels, along the whole strip
  • • Constanța railway station

Drop-off: Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport (OTP)

The car drops you at the Departures terminal. TAROM opens check-in 3 hours before departure and closes it 45 minutes before; the airport itself says deadlines vary by airline, so check yours.

Popular Drop-off Points:

  • • Drop at the Departures terminal curb
  • • Pickup time set from your flight, not a fixed slot
  • • Luggage unloaded at the door
  • • Child seats kept in place to the airport

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

Best Travel Times

A weekday morning is the easiest run. On summer weekends in the beach season, which is at its best from mid-June to early September, the A2 is one of the busiest roads in Romania, and on the first Saturday of August 2026 the police reported it slowest at the Danube crossing between Fetești and Cernavodă.

Traffic Patterns

From Constanța the car is on the A2 almost at once and stays on it for about 200 km, then takes the ring road round Bucharest to Otopeni. No authority publishes a summer-weekend delay in minutes, which is why the 4h 50min lead is a floor, not a target.

Road & Border Notes

The drive stays in Romania and pays no toll: the Fetești bridge toll was abolished on 1 October 2026, and the rovinieta road vignette is the carrier's. Winter tires are compulsory on any road covered with snow, ice or slush, and the A2 has been closed in severe storms, as it was from km 12 to km 212 on 10 January 2017.

Carrier Tip

Give the flight number and departure time, not just a pickup time, so the carrier can set the pickup from the 4h 50min lead and add margin on a summer weekend. If you are in Mamaia, give the hotel name: the strip is 8 km long.

Important Information

When to leave for your flight

Leave Constanța at least 4h 50min before departure: about 2h 50min of driving plus the 2 hours TAROM asks passengers to allow at the airport. Check-in deadlines at Henri Coandă vary by airline, so check yours, and add margin on a summer weekend or in snow.

Early flights and the train

Every train from Constanța to the airport changes at București Nord. On the timetable to 12 December 2026 the first leaves Constanța at 05:30 and the last at 21:30. A pre-booked car leaves when your flight needs it to.

Tolls and the rovinieta

Since 1 October 2026 there is no bridge toll at Fetești and no other toll on the A2 for a car. Every car on Romanian national roads and motorways needs a rovinieta, the road vignette; on a private transfer that is the carrier's vehicle and the carrier's vignette.

Winter on the A2

Romanian law makes winter tires compulsory on any road covered with snow, ice or slush. In severe storms the police and the road authority close the A2, as they did from km 12 to km 212 on 10 January 2017. When the road authority closed it as far as Fetești in March 2018, it sent traffic by the DN3 and DN3A.

Luggage

Declare large cases, buggies and beach gear when you book. They decide the vehicle: a sedan carrying three passengers will not also carry three large cases and a pushchair.

Child seats

Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Constanta to Bucharest Airport?

About 2 hours 50 minutes in free-flowing traffic, for about 241 km: the A2 motorway, the Autostrada Soarelui, from Constanța to Bucharest, then the ring road to Henri Coandă Airport at Otopeni without entering the city center. Summer weekends are slower, most of all at the Danube crossing between Cernavodă and Fetești.

How early should I leave Constanta for a flight from Bucharest Airport?

At least 4 hours 50 minutes before departure: about 2 hours 50 minutes of driving plus the 2 hours TAROM asks passengers to allow at the airport. Check-in deadlines at Henri Coandă vary by airline, and a summer weekend or snow needs more margin.

How much does a private transfer from Constanta to Bucharest Airport cost?

On TransferBnB a private transfer from Constanța to Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport starts from around €275 per vehicle for a sedan and €390 for a minivan, one way; minibuses are quoted on request. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so six people in a minivan pay €65 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date.

Can I take the train from Constanta to Bucharest Airport?

Yes, with a change at București Nord, on the timetable valid to 12 December 2026. The first train leaves Constanța at 05:30 and the last at 21:30. A private transfer collects you at your door at the time your flight needs.

Is there a toll between Constanta and Bucharest Airport?

No. Romania abolished the Fetești bridge toll on 1 October 2026, and a car now pays no toll on the A2. Every car on Romanian national roads and motorways still needs a rovinieta, the road vignette; on a private transfer that is the carrier's vehicle and the carrier's vignette.

How far is Bucharest Airport from Mamaia?

About 247 km and about 2 hours 50 minutes in free-flowing traffic, by the A4 Constanța bypass and the A2. Leave Mamaia at least 4 hours 50 minutes before your flight, more on a summer weekend.

Does the A2 motorway close in winter?

Only in severe storms, but it has happened: on 10 January 2017 the police closed the A2 from km 12 to km 212 in both directions under an orange blizzard warning. Romanian law makes winter tires compulsory on any road covered with snow, ice or slush.

What our customers say

  • Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
    Thomas B. - London, UK
  • Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
    Marta R. - Munich, Germany
  • Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
    Olivier D. - Lyon, France
  • Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
    Sarah K. - Dublin, Ireland
  • Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
    Pieter V. - Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
    Anna-Lisa M. - Vienna, Austria
