About This Transfer

Pickup is wherever the last day in Sinaia ends, the hotel, the villa or the cable car base, and from there the car heads down the Prahova Valley on the DN1, past Comarnic and through Ploiești to Henri Coandă, which stands on the same road. The whole run is about 109 km and takes about 1h 45min in free-flowing traffic, and it ends at the Departures terminal.

Sunday afternoon is the slow time. The police flag heavy traffic from the Prahova Valley toward Bucharest then, and when the DN1 jams they point drivers to the DN71 through Târgoviște.

The airport sets no single check-in time; your airline does. Leave Sinaia at least 1h 45min plus the airline's check-in time before departure, and more on a Sunday afternoon. By rail every trip changes at București Nord; the car leaves whenever the flight needs.

Sinaia is the royal summer town of the Prahova Valley and a ski resort on the Bucegi, and the car collects from the hotel, the Peleș car park or the cable car base. For every run to and from the terminal, see our Bucharest Airport transfers page. Our ski resort transfers page explains what skis, boards and group size do to a quote, and what fits in which transfer vehicle covers the bags.

Sights Along the Route

Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.

Stop requests: Most carriers on this route are happy to make short stops at viewpoints or towns. Mention it when booking or ask your driver directly.
in Sinaia

Peleș Castle

The 160-room former summer residence of Romania's royal family. It opens Wednesday 10:00 to 17:00 and Thursday to Sunday 09:15 to 17:00, last entry 16:00, and is closed Monday and Tuesday, and for cleaning from 2 November to 1 December 2026. Cars stop at the car park, and the castle is about 800 m on foot up a sloped alley through the Royal Park, 10 to 15 minutes. Visitors with disabilities may drive up to parking beside the castle.

Peleș National Museum →
beside Peleș

Pelișor Castle

The neighboring palace, with English-style landscaped gardens. It keeps the same days and hours as Peleș, with last entry at 16:15. Scheduled-visit tickets for either castle cannot be rescheduled.

lifts from town

Cota 1400 and Cota 2000

Sinaia's skiing is on the Bucegi at Cota 1400 and Cota 2000, reached by lift from town. On 22 October 2026 the operator said the gondola section from Cota 1000 to Cota 1400 was not running for the public, with no reopening date, while the cable car runs when the weather allows. The police have closed the road to Cota 1400 for snow, as in November 2024, so the transfer drops skiers at the cable car base.

Sinaia Monastery

Built in 1695 by Mihai Cantacuzino and named after the monastery on Mount Sinai. The town took its name from it and grew quickly after the railway arrived in 1878.

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

Best Travel Times

Weekday mornings run cleanest. Sunday afternoon is the heaviest time toward Bucharest, and the school holidays add to it: the Romanian winter school holiday runs from 23 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and a one-week mobile holiday falls between 15 February and 7 March 2027, set county by county.

Traffic Patterns

The drive stays on the DN1 the whole way, and the airport stands on it; since 1 October 2026 a 5.9 km bypass takes it round the town of Comarnic, and the A3 links Ploiești with Bucharest city and is not on the way to the terminal. The police flag Sunday afternoon as the heavy time toward Bucharest, and name the DN71 through Târgoviște as the alternative from Sinaia when the DN1 jams.

Road & Border Notes

The drive stays in Romania and passes no toll plaza. The national road vignette, the rovinieta, is required on the DN1, and the carrier's vehicle carries it. Winter tires marked M+S are compulsory whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice, so ask the carrier to confirm them when you book a winter trip.

Carrier Tip

Book the pickup back from the flight: 1h 45min of driving plus your airline's check-in time, and more on a Sunday afternoon. Declare skis, boards and boot bags, because they decide the vehicle.

Winter (Dec-Mar)

Peak Demand

Ski season at Cota 1400 and Cota 2000, and the school winter holiday fills the valley. The gondola to Cota 1400 was out of service in October 2026; the cable car runs when the weather allows.

  • School winter holiday 23 December 2026 to 10 January 2027
  • Mobile holiday week between 15 February and 7 March 2027
  • Peleș open again after 1 December 2026

Spring (Apr-May)

Quieter Roads

The holidays are over and the valley road is quieter. Both castles keep their Wednesday to Sunday hours.

  • Peleș and Pelișor, Wednesday to Sunday
  • Sinaia Monastery

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Busy Weekends

Sunday afternoons are heavy toward Bucharest, and the police flag the flow from the Prahova Valley to the capital.

  • Peleș and Pelișor
  • Carp gondola, Cota 1400 to Cota 2000

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

Between Seasons

The easiest weekends on the road, but Peleș closes for cleaning in November.

Important Information

When to leave Sinaia

Allow at least 1h 45min of driving plus your airline's check-in time, which the airline sets, not the airport. Add more on a Sunday afternoon, when the police flag heavy traffic from the Prahova Valley toward Bucharest.

Early flights

A pre-booked car leaves Sinaia whenever the flight needs. By rail every trip changes at București Nord, so an early flight also depends on that connection.

A last morning at Peleș

Peleș opens Wednesday 10:00 to 17:00 and Thursday to Sunday 09:15 to 17:00, and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 2 November to 1 December 2026. The car can wait at the castle car park, about 800 m on foot below the castle.

Winter tires and the vignette

Romania requires winter tires marked M+S whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice. The national road vignette is required on the DN1 and is the carrier's to hold, not yours. There is no toll plaza on the drive.

Skis, luggage and child seats

Declare ski bags, board bags and boot bags when you book: a sedan carrying three passengers will not also carry three hard ski cases. Child and booster seats are available on request; give the ages, not just the number of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Sinaia to Bucharest Airport?

About 1 hour 45 minutes in free-flowing traffic, for about 109 km down the Prahova Valley on the DN1, past Comarnic and through Ploiești to Henri Coandă. Sunday afternoons are slower: the police flag heavy traffic from the Prahova Valley toward Bucharest then.

How much does a private transfer from Sinaia to Bucharest Airport cost?

On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €130 per vehicle for a sedan and €170 for a minivan, one way; estates and minibuses are quoted on request. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so six people in a minivan pay under €30 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date.

How early should I leave Sinaia for a flight from Bucharest Airport?

At least 1 hour 45 minutes of driving plus your airline's check-in time before departure, because the airport sets no single check-in time and each airline sets its own. Add more on a Sunday afternoon, when the police flag the heaviest traffic toward Bucharest.

Is there a train from Sinaia to Bucharest Airport?

Not a direct one. You take a train to București Nord and change there for the airport train. On the current timetable the whole trip takes 2h02 to 3h29. A private transfer takes about 1h 45min with no change and can leave whenever the flight needs.

When is the traffic worst between Sinaia and Bucharest?

On Sunday afternoons heading toward Bucharest, and during school holidays. The police flag heavy traffic from the Prahova Valley toward the capital on Sunday afternoons, and they name the DN71 through Târgoviște as the alternative from Sinaia when the DN1 jams.

Can I visit Peleș Castle on the way to Bucharest Airport?

Yes, on a Wednesday to Sunday. Peleș opens at 10:00 on Wednesdays and 09:15 Thursday to Sunday, last entry 16:00, and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 2 November to 1 December 2026. The car waits at the car park, about 800 m on foot below the castle, then drives about 111 km to the airport.

Where does the transfer drop me at Bucharest Airport?

At the Departures terminal of Henri Coandă, where the self check-in machines and the bag drop are. Check-in closing times are set by each airline, so check yours before you book the pickup.

What our customers say

  • Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
    Thomas B. - London, UK
  • Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
    Marta R. - Munich, Germany
  • Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
    Olivier D. - Lyon, France
  • Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
    Sarah K. - Dublin, Ireland
  • Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
    Pieter V. - Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
    Anna-Lisa M. - Vienna, Austria
