About This Transfer

Henri Coandă stands on the DN1, so the drive to Sinaia starts the moment your driver has walked you out of the arrivals hall and loaded the skis. The road runs north through Ploiești, past Comarnic, and climbs the Prahova Valley into Sinaia at the foot of the Bucegi. The whole run is about 109 km and takes about 1h 45min in free-flowing traffic.

Published times of 1h 25min leave out 20 minutes of that. The A3 motorway is no help here: it links Bucharest city with Ploiești, it is not on the way from the airport, and nothing of it crosses the mountains. Weekends are slower: on Sunday 5 January 2025 the police reported queues between Breaza and Comarnic.

There is no train from the airport to Sinaia either. Every rail trip changes at București Nord, and the sampled chains on the current timetable take 2h13 to 3h38.

Sinaia is the royal summer town of the Prahova Valley and a ski resort on the Bucegi, and the car goes to the hotel, the Peleș car park or the cable car base. For every run from the terminal, see our Bucharest Airport transfers page. Our ski resort transfers page explains what skis, boards and group size do to a quote, and what fits in which transfer vehicle covers the bags.

Sights Along the Route

Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.

Stop requests: Most carriers on this route are happy to make short stops at viewpoints or towns. Mention it when booking or ask your driver directly.
in Sinaia

Peleș Castle

The 160-room former summer residence of Romania's royal family. It opens Wednesday 10:00 to 17:00 and Thursday to Sunday 09:15 to 17:00, last entry 16:00, and is closed Monday and Tuesday, and for cleaning from 2 November to 1 December 2026. Cars stop at the car park, and the castle is about 800 m on foot up a sloped alley through the Royal Park, 10 to 15 minutes. Visitors with disabilities may drive up to parking beside the castle.

Peleș National Museum →
beside Peleș

Pelișor Castle

The neighboring palace, with English-style landscaped gardens. It keeps the same days and hours as Peleș, with last entry at 16:15. Scheduled-visit tickets for either castle cannot be rescheduled.

lifts from town

Cota 1400 and Cota 2000

Sinaia's skiing is on the Bucegi at Cota 1400 and Cota 2000, reached by lift from town. On 22 October 2026 the operator said the gondola section from Cota 1000 to Cota 1400 was not running for the public, with no reopening date, while the cable car runs when the weather allows. The police have closed the road to Cota 1400 for snow, as in November 2024, so the transfer drops skiers at the cable car base.

Sinaia Monastery

Built in 1695 by Mihai Cantacuzino and named after the monastery on Mount Sinai. The town took its name from it and grew quickly after the railway arrived in 1878.

Route Overview

Pickup: Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport (OTP)

Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall after baggage claim; your carrier confirms the exact spot and where the car stands in the booking chat. Agree it before you fly: the arrivals car park, P2, is closed for works until 28 February 2027, vehicles with more than seven seats may park only in P5, and app cars collect at Departures.

Popular Pickup Points:

  • • Meet in the arrivals hall, name board ready
  • • Flight monitoring, so a delay moves the pickup
  • • Late landings covered, whatever the rail timetable says
  • • Ski and board bags declared at booking, vehicle sized to match

Drop-off: Sinaia, Prahova

A transfer drives to hotels, villas and apartments across Sinaia. For Peleș it stops at the car park, 800 m below the castle; for skiing it stops at the cable car base in town, because the road to Cota 1400 is closed in snow. Give the full address, not just Sinaia.

Popular Drop-off Points:

  • • Hotels, villas and apartments in Sinaia
  • • The Peleș car park, for both castles
  • • The cable car base, for Cota 1400 and Cota 2000
  • • Sinaia railway station, if you are meeting others

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

Best Travel Times

Weekdays run cleanest. The heavy days are weekends and the school holidays: the Romanian winter school holiday runs from 23 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and a one-week mobile holiday falls between 15 February and 7 March 2027, set county by county. Peleș is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so an arrival early in the week leaves the castle for later.

Traffic Patterns

From the airport the drive stays on the DN1 the whole way, and since 1 October 2026 a 5.9 km bypass takes it round the town of Comarnic. There is no motorway alternative over the mountains. On Sunday 5 January 2025 the police reported queues between Breaza and Comarnic on the way up, and Sunday afternoons are heavy on the way back toward Bucharest. When the DN1 jams, the police point drivers for Sinaia to the DN71 through Târgoviște.

Road & Border Notes

The drive stays in Romania and passes no toll plaza. The national road vignette, the rovinieta, is required on the DN1, and the carrier's vehicle carries it. Winter tires marked M+S are compulsory whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice, so ask the carrier to confirm them when you book a winter trip.

Carrier Tip

Say whether you want the hotel, the Peleș car park or the cable car base, because they are three different stops. Declare skis, boards and boot bags at booking, because they decide the vehicle. If your flight lands late in the evening, the car waits for it, with no connection at București Nord to make.

When to Travel This Route

Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.

Winter (Dec-Mar)

Peak Demand

Ski season at Cota 1400 and Cota 2000, and the school winter holiday fills the valley. The gondola to Cota 1400 was out of service in October 2026; the cable car runs when the weather allows.

  • School winter holiday 23 December 2026 to 10 January 2027
  • Mobile holiday week between 15 February and 7 March 2027
  • Peleș open again after 1 December 2026

Spring (Apr-May)

Quieter Roads

The holidays are over and the valley road is quieter. Both castles keep their Wednesday to Sunday hours.

  • Peleș and Pelișor, Wednesday to Sunday
  • Sinaia Monastery

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Busy Weekends

Sunday afternoons are heavy toward Bucharest, and the police flag the flow from the Prahova Valley to the capital.

  • Peleș and Pelișor
  • Carp gondola, Cota 1400 to Cota 2000

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

Between Seasons

The easiest weekends on the road, but Peleș closes for cleaning in November.

Important Information

Meeting your driver at Henri Coandă

Your carrier confirms in the booking chat where the driver meets you and where the car waits: the arrivals car park, P2, is closed for works until 28 February 2027, and vehicles with more than seven seats may park only in P5. Give your carrier the flight number so it can track the landing.

Landing late

A pre-booked car waits for the flight, however late it lands. By rail every trip to Sinaia changes at București Nord, so a late landing also means making that connection.

Peleș Castle opening days

Peleș opens Wednesday 10:00 to 17:00 and Thursday to Sunday 09:15 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from 2 November to 1 December 2026 for cleaning. The transfer stops at the car park; the castle is an 800 m walk up a sloped alley.

Skiing at Cota 1400

On 22 October 2026 the gondola section from Cota 1000 to Cota 1400 was not running for the public, with no reopening date; the cable car runs when the weather allows. The road up can close in snow, so plan on the cable car from town.

Winter tires and the vignette

Romania requires winter tires marked M+S whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice. The national road vignette is required on the DN1 and is the carrier's to hold, not yours. There is no toll plaza on the drive.

Skis, luggage and child seats

Declare ski bags, board bags and boot bags when you book: a sedan carrying three passengers will not also carry three hard ski cases. Child and booster seats are available on request; give the ages, not just the number of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Bucharest Airport to Sinaia?

About 1 hour 45 minutes in free-flowing traffic, for about 109 km on the DN1 through Ploiești and past Comarnic into the Prahova Valley. Weekends and school holidays are slower; on Sunday 5 January 2025 the police reported queues between Breaza and Comarnic.

How much does a private transfer from Bucharest Airport to Sinaia cost?

On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €130 per vehicle for a sedan and €170 for a minivan, one way; estates and minibuses are quoted on request. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so three people in a sedan pay under €45 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date.

Is there a train from Bucharest Airport to Sinaia?

Not a direct one. The airport train runs to București Nord in about 25 minutes, and you change there for a train to Sinaia. On the current timetable the whole trip takes 2h13 to 3h38. A private transfer takes about 1h 45min with no change.

Can a transfer drop me at Peleș Castle?

At the car park, not the door. The Peleș National Museum says the castle is an 800 m walk from the car park, about 10 to 15 minutes up a sloped alley through the Royal Park; visitors with disabilities may drive up. Peleș is about 111 km from Bucharest Airport by road.

Is Peleș Castle open on Mondays?

No. Peleș is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. It opens Wednesday 10:00 to 17:00 and Thursday to Sunday 09:15 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00, and it is closed for cleaning from 2 November to 1 December 2026.

Can you drive up to Cota 1400 in Sinaia in winter?

Not reliably. The police have closed the road to Cota 1400 for snow, as in November 2024, and the way up is then the lifts from town. On 22 October 2026 the gondola section from Cota 1000 to Cota 1400 was not running for the public, so the cable car is the lift to plan on, and it runs when the weather allows.

Is the A3 motorway open from Bucharest to Sinaia?

Only as far as Ploiești, and from Bucharest Airport it is not on the way: the airport stands on the DN1, which a private transfer follows all the way to Sinaia. No motorway crosses the mountains to Sinaia or Brașov.

Do I need winter tires or a vignette to drive from Bucharest Airport to Sinaia?

Winter tires marked M+S are compulsory in Romania whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice, and the rovinieta road vignette is required on the DN1. There is no toll plaza on the way. On a private transfer the vignette is the carrier's, and you can ask the carrier to confirm winter tires when you book.

Why Book This Route?

  • • About 109 km and 1h 45min from arrivals to your door, against two trains and a change at București Nord
  • • Meets you in the hall however late the flight lands, with no connection at București Nord to make
  • • Drops at your hotel, the Peleș car park or the cable car base, whichever the day needs
  • • Vignette carried by the carrier, winter tires confirmed at booking
  • • Quoted per vehicle, not per head: six in a minivan pay under €30 each

What our customers say

  • Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
    Thomas B. - London, UK
  • Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
    Marta R. - Munich, Germany
  • Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
    Olivier D. - Lyon, France
  • Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
    Sarah K. - Dublin, Ireland
  • Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
    Pieter V. - Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
    Anna-Lisa M. - Vienna, Austria
