About This Transfer
Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport in Otopeni, the cases and ski bags go into the back once, and the car turns north onto the DN1. It stays on the DN1 the whole way: round Ploiești on the western bypass, up the Prahova Valley through Sinaia, Bușteni and Azuga, over the Predeal Pass at 1,033 m and down into Brașov. The run is about 155 km and takes about 2h 40min in free-flowing traffic.
That is about 20 minutes more than the 2h 19min figure that circulates, and operators who drive the route publish up to about 3 hours at weekends and in mountain weather. The valley towns are where the time goes: on a summer Sunday in July 2026 the traffic police reported queues on the DN1 between Predeal and Sinaia toward Ploiești, and between Poiana Țapului and Bușteni toward Brașov.
There is no toll plaza on the drive and no motorway over the mountains: the A3 is open from Bucharest to Ploiești, no part of it crosses the mountains, and from the airport it is not on the way. There is no train from the airport to Brașov either. Every rail trip changes at București Nord and takes about 3 to 4 hours, up to 4h 40min on some departures.
Brașov is the Transylvanian end of the trip, and the car goes to the old-town hotel, the apartment in the newer city or up the hill to Poiana Brașov. For every run from the terminal, see our Bucharest Airport transfers page. Our airport transfers page explains how meet and greet and flight tracking work, and ski resort transfers covers what skis and boards do to a quote.

Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.
Peleș Castle
The castle above Sinaia sits about 111 km from the airport, just above the DN1, so a stop on the way costs only the climb from the main road and the visit. Entry is first come, first served within the time slot on the ticket. Peleș is closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026 for cleaning and conservation.
Peleș National Museum →Black Church
The church its own guardians call the city's symbol stands a few steps from Piața Sfatului, the old-town square. From 16 October 2026 to April 2027 it opens 10:00 to 18:00 Tuesday to Saturday and 12:00 to 18:00 on Sunday and Monday, and closes for cleaning on 2, 9 and 16 November 2026.
Black Church →Poiana Brașov
Brașov's own ski resort, at about 1,020 m on the slopes above the city and about 20 minutes up the road from Piața Sfatului. A transfer from the airport can drive straight there, about 158 km in all.
About Poiana Brașov →Bran Castle
About 35 minutes from the old town by road. From 1 November to 31 March the last entry is 18:00, with Monday opening at noon and the other days at 9:00. Tickets often sell out well in advance, so the castle advises booking online.

Pickup: Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport (OTP)
The arrivals car park, P2, is closed for works until 28 February 2027. Your carrier confirms the meeting point in the arrivals hall, and where the car waits, in the booking chat. Minibuses and vehicles with more than 7 seats may only use car park P5. Ride-share pickups moved to Departures on 23 April 2026; a pre-booked transfer meets you in Arrivals.
Popular Pickup Points:
- • Meet in the arrivals hall, name board ready
- • Flight monitoring, so a late landing does not lose you the car
- • Late arrivals covered, whatever the rail timetable says
- • Ski and board bags declared at booking, vehicle sized to match
Drop-off: Brașov, Transylvania
A transfer drives to any Brașov address: old-town hotels near Piața Sfatului, apartments in the newer city, the railway station, or up to Poiana Brașov. Give the full address, not just Brașov, because the old town and the ski resort are about 20 minutes apart.
Popular Drop-off Points:
- • Old-town hotels around Piața Sfatului
- • Poiana Brașov hotels and chalets
- • Brașov railway station
- • Apartments and guesthouses across the city
Local Route Knowledge
Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.
Best Travel Times
Weekday mornings run cleanest. The traffic police flag Sunday afternoons, when the Prahova Valley empties toward Bucharest, and the valley fills on holiday changeovers: the Romanian school winter holiday runs from 23 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and each county takes a one-week break between 15 February and 7 March 2027.
Traffic Patterns
From Otopeni the car stays on the DN1 the whole way, round Ploiești and then up the valley. The A3 motorway is open only as far as Ploiești on this side of the mountains, and from the airport it is not on the way. The slow stretches are the resort towns themselves: police bulletins name Sinaia, Bușteni and Predeal in both directions on busy days. Since 1 October 2026 a 5.9 km bypass takes the DN1 round Comarnic. When the valley locks up, the police route traffic over Cheia on the DN1A, or through Târgoviște and the DN71 to Sinaia.
Road & Border Notes
The drive stays in Romania and passes no toll plaza; the national road vignette is the vehicle's, carried by the carrier. Romanian law makes winter tires compulsory whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice, on all wheels and marked M+S. The highest point is the Predeal Pass at 1,033 m.
Carrier Tip
Give the full address and say if you are going on to Poiana Brașov. Declare skis, boards and boot bags when you book, because they decide the vehicle. If your flight lands late in the evening, the car waits for it, with no connection at București Nord to make.

Important Information
Meeting your driver at Henri Coandă
The arrivals car park P2 is closed for works until 28 February 2027. Your carrier confirms the meeting point in the arrivals hall, and where the car waits, in the booking chat. Minibuses and vehicles with more than 7 seats may only park in P5. Give your carrier the flight number so it can track the landing.
Landing late
Your carrier tracks the flight, so a late landing moves the pickup rather than losing it. By rail, a late arrival still means the airport train to București Nord, a change there, and about 3 to 4 hours in all.
Winter tires and tolls
In Romania winter tires are compulsory whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice, on all wheels and marked M+S. There is no toll plaza on this drive; the national road vignette belongs to the vehicle, and the carrier's car carries it.
Ride-hailing at the airport
Since 23 April 2026 ride-share cars collect from the Departures level, not Arrivals. A pre-booked transfer meets you inside the arrivals hall.
Skis, boards and luggage
Declare ski bags, board bags and boot bags when you book. The car is chosen for the bags as much as for the seats, so a family with skis may need a station wagon or a minivan rather than a sedan.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the drive from Bucharest Airport to Brasov?
About 2 hours 40 minutes in free-flowing traffic, for about 155 km on the DN1: north past Ploiești, up the Prahova Valley through Sinaia and Bușteni, and over the Predeal Pass. Sunday afternoons and school-holiday changeovers are slower, because the police report queues in the valley towns then.
How much does a private transfer from Bucharest Airport to Brasov cost?
On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €190 per vehicle for a sedan, €270 for a minivan and €365 for a minibus, one way. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so three people in a sedan pay about €63 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date.
Is there a direct train from Bucharest Airport to Brasov?
No. The airport train runs to București Nord (Gara de Nord) every 40 minutes in about 20 minutes, and you change there for Brașov. The whole trip takes about 3 to 4 hours with the change, up to 4h 40min on some departures. A private transfer takes about 2h 40min with no change and no luggage across a platform.
Is there a motorway from Bucharest to Brasov?
Not over the mountains. The A3 is open from Bucharest to Ploiești, and its Ploiești to Brașov section has no money in the 2026 budget. From Bucharest Airport the drive uses the DN1 the whole way, through the Prahova Valley and over the Predeal Pass.
Are there tolls or a winter tire rule between Bucharest Airport and Brasov?
There is no toll plaza on the drive; the national road vignette belongs to the vehicle, and on a private transfer the carrier's car carries it. Romanian law makes winter tires compulsory whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or black ice, which matters on the Predeal Pass at 1,033 m.
Does Brasov have its own airport?
Yes. Brașov-Ghimbav (GHV) is about 9.5 km from the old town, with a short list of international routes. If your flight lands at Bucharest Henri Coandă, the transfer to Brașov is about 155 km and 2h 40min.
Can I stop at Peleș Castle on the way from Bucharest Airport to Brasov?
Yes. Peleș stands above Sinaia, about 111 km from the airport on the DN1, so it is on the way. Ask for the stop when you book, because it adds the visit to the drive. Peleș is closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026, and entry is first come, first served within the time slot on your ticket.
When is the road from Bucharest to Brasov busiest?
On Sunday afternoons, when the Prahova Valley empties toward Bucharest, and on school-holiday changeovers: the Romanian winter holiday runs from 23 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and county ski weeks fall between 15 February and 7 March 2027. The police name the valley towns of Sinaia, Bușteni and Predeal as the stretches that queue; Comarnic has had a bypass since 1 October 2026.
Why Book This Route?
- • About 155 km and 2h 40min from the arrivals hall to your door, against two trains and a change at București Nord
- • Waits for a late or delayed flight, so there is no last train to catch at Gara de Nord
- • No toll plaza on the route, and winter tires as Romanian law requires on a snowy Predeal Pass
- • Drives on to Poiana Brașov, or stops at Peleș Castle on the way, if you ask when you book
- • Quoted per vehicle, not per head: six in a minivan pay €45 each

What our customers say
Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
Thomas B. - London, UK Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
Marta R. - Munich, Germany Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
Olivier D. - Lyon, France Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
Sarah K. - Dublin, Ireland Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
Pieter V. - Amsterdam, Netherlands I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
Anna-Lisa M. - Vienna, Austria
