The Arrivals car park is closed for works: buses and app rides now leave from Departures
Until the works at Henri Coandă finish, bus lines 100 and 442 stop only at the Departures stop, and since 23 April 2026 Bolt and Uber pick up at Departures too. The multi-story car park in front of Arrivals, P2, is closed until 28 February 2027, and the walk to the train station runs only through the Arrivals ground floor. The taxi rank is still on the Arrivals ground floor.
A booked driver meets you inside the Arrivals hall, so none of this changes where you walk.
About This Transfer
Your driver meets you in the Arrivals hall at Henri Coandă, takes the cases, and is on the DN1 heading south within minutes. Bucharest Airport to the city center is about 16 to 19 km depending on the address, and about 20 to 25 minutes in free-flowing traffic: Piața Victoriei is the near end, Piața Unirii and the Old Town the far one. There is no motorway and no toll on the way.
The drive is one road the whole way. The DN1 runs through Otopeni and Băneasa, becomes Șoseaua Kiseleff past the Village Museum, and turns into the boulevards that cross the center, Magheru, Bălcescu and Brătianu, to Piața Unirii. The Old Town is pedestrianised, so a car stops at its edge, at a point you agree with the carrier.
The public options are real, and cheap. Bus 100 costs 3 lei and reaches Piața Unirii in 32 to 42 minutes on the weekday timetable; the CFR train costs 6.50 lei and takes about 20 minutes, but it ends at Gara de Nord, 3.8 km by road from Piața Unirii. A metered taxi runs 2.29 to 3.50 lei per km, about 43 to 66 lei on the distance.
A car earns its fare with a group, a late landing, a hotel in the Old Town, or a second trip into the mountains. Compare every run from the terminal on the Bucharest Airport transfers page, or see how airport transfers work on TransferBnB.
- ✓ About 19 km on the DN1, no motorway or toll
- ✓ About 25 minutes in free flow
- ✓ Met in Arrivals, dropped at your hotel
Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.
Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum
The open-air village museum sits at Șoseaua Kiseleff 28-30, on the DN1 itself as it enters the city, so the car passes its gate on the way to the center. It is an easy first afternoon from a hotel near Piața Victoriei.
Village Museum →Palace of the Parliament
Its operator calls it the world's largest administrative palace. Visits run daily from 9:30 to 16:30, but tickets are sold only at 2-4 Izvor Street, on the day, to people who booked by phone on the previous working day, and the booking line is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00. Land on a Friday evening and the earliest visit you can book is Tuesday.
Palace of the Parliament →Stavropoleos Monastery
A small church founded in 1724, at Strada Stavropoleos 4 inside the pedestrianised Old Town, open every day from 08:00 to 19:00 around its services. The car stops at the edge of the Old Town and the last stretch is on foot.

Pickup: Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport (OTP)
Arrivals and Departures are separate halls on one forecourt, joined by a corridor. Your carrier meets you inside the Arrivals hall and confirms the point before the day. Taxis wait at the Arrivals ground-floor rank, and touch-screen taxi terminals stand on Arrivals level 1, on the right after baggage claim. Bus 100 and app rides now leave from Departures while the Arrivals car park is closed.
Popular Pickup Points:
- • Arrivals hall meeting point, confirmed by your carrier
- • Taxi rank, Arrivals ground floor
- • Bus 100 and Bolt or Uber pickup at Departures
- • Train station via the Arrivals ground floor
Drop-off: Bucharest city center
Hotels on the boulevards are a door-to-door drop. The Old Town is pedestrianised, so for a hotel inside it the car stops at the nearest point the streets allow and you walk the last stretch: agree the point with your carrier. Gara de Nord, for trains onward, is about 16.7 km from Arrivals by road.
Popular Drop-off Points:
- • Piața Victoriei and the northern boulevards
- • Piața Unirii and Universitate
- • Old Town hotels, drop point agreed in advance
- • Gara de Nord
Local Route Knowledge
Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.
Best Travel Times
Midday and late evening are the easy hours. TomTom's 2025 figures put the city's evening rush at 117.7 percent above free flow and the morning rush at 97.5 percent, so the drive that takes about 25 minutes at noon can take about twice as long at the evening rush, up to about 55 minutes. That is a planning ceiling built from city-wide averages, not a measurement of the DN1.
Traffic Patterns
The whole route is the DN1 through Otopeni and Băneasa, then the central boulevards. Across 2025, October was the city's most congested month at 73 percent and August the lightest at 44.1 percent. A landing in late autumn at rush hour is the slowest version of this trip.
Road & Border Notes
No motorway, no toll and no border; the national road vignette, the rovinieta, is the carrier's. The route is the DN1 from the airport to Piața Victoriei and the central boulevards from there. The constraint is at the city end, where the Old Town is pedestrianised.
Carrier Tip
Give the carrier the hotel name, not just the district, and say whether it is inside the Old Town. With the Arrivals car park closed until 28 February 2027, agree with the carrier where it parks and where it meets you.

Price & Vehicle Options
A private transfer from Bucharest Airport to the city center starts from around €35 one way for a sedan. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and depends on the vehicle size, the time of day and the luggage you declare.
| Vehicle | Seats | Luggage | From | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-3 | 2-3 bags | from €35 | Couples and solo travelers, and late landings | |

| 8-16 | group | Quote on request | Groups too big for one van |
Prices are per vehicle, one way and indicative, and the carrier confirms them before you pay. TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace, so you compare quotes from carriers who want the job. A sedan of three from €35 is about €12 a head; a minivan of six from €60 is €10 a head.

Important Information
Where Buses and App Rides Leave From in 2026
During the works at Henri Coandă, bus lines 100 and 442 stop only at the Departures stop, named Aeroport Henri Coandă, and since 23 April 2026 the Bolt and Uber pickup zone is at Departures too, shown on the map in each app. The Arrivals car park P2 is closed until 28 February 2027. Taxis still wait on the Arrivals ground floor.
Taking a Taxi Safely
Authorized airport taxis, licensed by Bucharest and Ilfov County, charge 2.29 to 3.50 lei per km. Take one from the rank on the Arrivals ground floor, or order one at the touch-screen terminals on Arrivals level 1, which print a ticket with the car's plate, its arrival time and its tariff. Keep that ticket after the ride for any complaint. Touting inside the terminal is an offense under Law 38/2003, so ignore anyone who offers a ride.
The Train Ends at Gara de Nord
The CFR train runs 24 hours a day, every 40 minutes, and takes about 20 to 25 minutes. A ticket costs 6.50 lei from the ticket office, a kiosk, the CFR app or by SMS to 7458, and 13 lei from the conductor. Its terminus is Gara de Nord, 3.8 km by road from Piața Unirii, so the Old Town needs a second ride.
Bus 100 Timetable
Bus 100 runs 24 hours between the airport and Piața Unirii, via Piața Victoriei and Piața Romană. From the airport it leaves every 15 minutes on weekdays from 06:00 to 21:45, every 20 minutes at weekends from 06:00 to 22:40, and every 30 minutes at night. STB's timetable gives 32 to 42 minutes to Piața Unirii on weekdays and says its times depend on traffic. A trip costs 3 lei for 90 minutes, and a contactless bank card works on board.
Child Seats
Carriers provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment, and confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.
Which Timetables These Figures Come From
Bus times are from STB's line 100 timetable, fares from STB and CFR Călători, and the airport rules from the airport operator's access pages, all read on 1 November 2026. The CFR fare is valid from 14 December 2025. Check before you travel.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Bucharest Otopeni Airport from the city center?
About 16 to 19 km by road, and about 20 to 25 minutes in free-flowing traffic: 15.7 km to Piața Victoriei, 16.7 km to Gara de Nord and 18.9 km to Piața Unirii, all on the DN1 with no motorway or toll. At the evening rush the drive can take about twice as long. A private transfer drives the whole way to your hotel.
How do I get from Bucharest Airport to the Old Town?
By private transfer, taxi, Bolt or Uber, or bus 100. Bus 100 costs 3 lei, leaves from the Departures stop and reaches Piața Unirii, at the edge of the Old Town, in 32 to 42 minutes on weekdays. The train is quicker than the bus, about 20 to 25 minutes, but ends at Gara de Nord, 3.8 km from Piața Unirii. The Old Town itself is pedestrianised, so every car stops at its edge; a private transfer from around €35 per vehicle meets you in Arrivals and agrees that drop point in advance.
How much is a taxi from Bucharest Airport to the city center in 2026?
Authorized airport taxis charge 2.29 to 3.50 lei per km, which is about 43 to 66 lei, or about €8 to €12, for the 18.9 km to Piața Unirii on the distance alone. Take a car from the rank on the Arrivals ground floor or order one at the touch-screen terminals on Arrivals level 1, and keep the printed ticket. A booked private transfer fixes its price before you fly, from around €35 per vehicle.
Where do Uber and Bolt pick up at Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport?
At Departures. Since 23 April 2026 the airport's ride-sharing pickup zone has been at Departures, shown on the pickup map in each app, while the Arrivals car park P2 is closed until 28 February 2027 for works. The app sets the fare when you book. A private transfer meets you inside the Arrivals hall instead.
Is there a train from Bucharest Airport to the city center?
Yes, to Gara de Nord, not to the center itself. The airport says trains run 24 hours a day, every 40 minutes, and CFR Călători gives about 20 to 25 minutes, for 6.50 lei, or 13 lei if you buy from the conductor. The station is reached through the Arrivals ground floor during the car park works. From Gara de Nord the Old Town is another 3.8 km, so most travelers need a second ride; a private transfer goes straight to the hotel.
How often does bus 100 run from Bucharest Airport, and where is the stop?
Every 15 minutes on weekdays from 06:00 to 21:45, every 20 minutes at weekends from 06:00 to 22:40, and every 30 minutes through the night, 24 hours a day. During the airport works it stops only at the Departures stop, not at Arrivals. It reaches Piața Unirii in 32 to 42 minutes on the weekday timetable and costs 3 lei. With heavy luggage or a family, a private transfer from Arrivals is the simpler option.
Is there a metro from Bucharest Otopeni Airport?
No. Metro line M6, which will link Gara de Nord with Henri Coandă Airport, is under construction and not open. Today the rail link is the CFR train to Gara de Nord, every 40 minutes, and the bus link is line 100 to Piața Unirii. A private transfer covers the 19 km to a hotel door in about 25 minutes in free flow.
How much is a private transfer from Bucharest Airport to the city center?
From around €35 per vehicle for a sedan carrying up to three people, and from around €60 for a minivan for a larger group, one way. Prices are per vehicle, not per person, so three people sharing a sedan pay about €12 each. On TransferBnB verified carriers send offers for your trip and you choose one before you pay.
Is a private transfer from Bucharest Airport worth it?
For one person traveling light at midday, probably not: bus 100 at 3 lei or a taxi at about 43 to 66 lei does the job. It is worth it for a group, a family with luggage, a late landing, a hotel in the pedestrianised Old Town, or an evening rush when you want someone else at the wheel. A private transfer from around €35 per vehicle buys a driver waiting inside Arrivals and a fixed price.
Why Book This Route?

What our customers say
Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
Thomas B. - London, UK Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
Marta R. - Munich, Germany Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
Olivier D. - Lyon, France Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
Sarah K. - Dublin, Ireland Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
Pieter V. - Amsterdam, Netherlands I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
Anna-Lisa M. - Vienna, Austria
