About This Transfer

The car collects you at the Wieliczka Salt Mine or your Wieliczka hotel, the suitcases are already in the boot, and the next stop is the terminal at Kraków Airport. The route is the A4 from the Kraków Wieliczka junction round the south of Kraków to Balice: about 27 km and about 20 minutes in free-flowing traffic, more at rush hour on the ring.

Work backwards from the flight. Kraków Airport asks you to arrive about 120 minutes before departure, and check-in usually closes about 40 minutes before. With about 20 minutes on the road, leave the mine at least 2h 20min before the flight. The tour takes 2 to 3 hours, so a full 3-hour visit starts at least 5h 20min before take-off: for a 16:00 flight, a tour by 10:40 and the car at 13:40.

The catch on a departure day is the luggage. Only a bag up to 20 x 20 x 35 cm goes underground, the mine's lockers are limited and not guaranteed, and the storage takes nothing over 20 kg. The mine's own advice is to leave suitcases in the car, which is what a transfer booked to wait, or to collect you from a Kraków hotel on the way, does.

The tour ends at the Daniłowicz Shaft or the Regis Shaft, under 500 m apart, so tell the driver which one. For every run to and from the terminal, see our Kraków Airport transfers page, and our airport transfers page explains how carriers quote for a wait or a second stop.

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

🕐

Best Travel Times

A morning tour and an afternoon or evening flight is the shape that works. Book the tour time online first, then the car to the end of it: 2 to 3 hours underground, the car 2h 20min before the flight. The mine sets its hours day by day and has closed days, so check the date before you book either.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

The A4 ring carries the whole drive, from the Kraków Wieliczka junction round the south of Kraków to Balice. Rush hour on the ring is the variable nobody publishes, so on a weekday afternoon give the car a margin on top of the 2h 20min.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

No border and no mountain road: the drive stays on the A4 and town streets in the Kraków area. At the terminal, the Kiss & Fly bay allows 8 free minutes, so the drop itself is quick.

💡

Carrier Tip

Tell the carrier the tour time, the flight time and the shaft. If you are coming from a Kraków hotel with luggage, ask for one booking: hotel, mine with a wait, then the airport. The mine asks visitors to leave suitcases in their car, and its lockers cannot be guaranteed.

Important Information

When to leave for the airport
Kraków Airport asks you to arrive about 120 minutes before departure, and check-in usually closes about 40 minutes before. The drive is about 20 minutes, so leave the mine at least 2h 20min before the flight, and more on a weekday afternoon.
Suitcases on a departure day
Only a bag up to 20 x 20 x 35 cm goes underground. The free storage room in the "Górnik" building opens 30 minutes before the first tour and closes 30 minutes after the last group, and takes items up to 20 kg; the lockers are limited and not guaranteed. Passports, cash and valuables may not be left in either. A car booked to wait keeps the suitcases in the boot.
Which shaft to be collected from
The tour ends at the Daniłowicz Shaft or the Regis Shaft, pl. Kościuszki 9, under 500 m apart, and everyone leaves by lift. Agree the shaft with the driver when you book.
Tickets and languages
Every visit is a guided tour at a set time. Tours in any language other than Polish or English must be bought online in advance; Polish and English tickets can be bought at the shaft if any are left, with a possible wait. On a departure day, buy online and fix the time.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Wieliczka to Kraków Airport?
About 20 minutes in free-flowing traffic for about 27 km on the A4 round the south of Kraków, more at rush hour on the ring.
How much time should I allow between the Wieliczka Salt Mine and my flight?
Leave the mine at least 2h 20min before the flight: Kraków Airport asks for about 120 minutes before departure, and the drive is about 20 minutes. The tour itself takes 2 to 3 hours, so a full 3-hour visit should start at least 5h 20min before the flight. For a 16:00 flight, that means a tour starting by 10:40 and the car at 13:40.
Can I visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine on the way to Kraków Airport?
Yes, if the flight is late enough: start the tour at least 5h 20min before departure for the full 3 hours, or 4h 20min for the 2-hour walk alone. Suitcases cannot go underground, and the mine's lockers are limited, so the simplest way is a car that collects you from your Kraków hotel with the luggage, waits at the mine and drives on to the airport.
Is there a direct train from Wieliczka to Kraków Airport?
Yes. The SKA1 runs from Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia through Kraków Główny to the airport on the same train, in 42 minutes on most departures, every 30 minutes from 05:11 to 21:11 on the timetable valid to 24 October 2026. The last through trains leave at 22:11 and 23:11. The fare is PLN 24 and luggage rides free. A private transfer takes about 20 minutes and collects you at the shaft with the bags already in the car.
Where does the car pick me up at the Wieliczka Salt Mine?
At the Daniłowicz Shaft, Daniłowicza 10, or the Regis Shaft, pl. Kościuszki 9, depending on where your tour ends. The two are under 500 m apart, so agree the shaft with your driver when you book.
How much does a private transfer from Wieliczka to Kraków Airport cost?
From €45 per vehicle for a saloon, one way; €50 for an estate, €65 for a minivan and €85 for a minibus. Prices are per vehicle and indicative: on TransferBnB verified carriers send offers for your date. A wait at the mine, or a pickup from a Kraków hotel first, is quoted on top.

Why Book This Route?

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
