About This Transfer
Your driver meets you at Edinburgh Airport, the cases go into the back once, and the car is on the M8 within about 6 km of the terminal. From there it is motorway almost the whole way west, past Livingston, into Glasgow at the junction signed for the Cathedral and Glasgow Cross. The run is about 65 km and takes about 55 minutes in free-flowing traffic.
That is more than twice the 26 minutes one reseller publishes; operators who drive the route publish 46 to 50 minutes. The time that varies is at the Glasgow end: Glasgow City Council reports the city-center stretch of the M8 running over capacity in the morning and evening peaks.
The train is a fair alternative, and it is worth being plain about it. There is no station at the airport, so you take the tram or a bus to Haymarket or Edinburgh Park and a ScotRail train on to Glasgow Queen Street: about 1h10 to 1h30 with one change. A direct airport coach runs to Buchanan Street in about an hour. The car wins on bags, on groups of three or more, after the last connection, and for any Glasgow address that is not next to Queen Street.
For every run from the terminal, see our Edinburgh Airport transfers page. Our airport transfers page explains how meet and greet and flight tracking work.

Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.
Glasgow Cathedral
Scotland's finest surviving medieval cathedral, beside the Necropolis. The M8 exit for the city center is signed for it. Entry is free, with donations welcome. It is a working church, so hours vary with services.
Glasgow Cathedral →Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Glasgow's free art gallery and museum, in the West End beyond the city-center motorway. A transfer can drop you at the door or at a West End hotel nearby.
Kelvingrove →Greenock Ocean Terminal
The Clyde's cruise terminal at Greenock, west of Glasgow. Joining a ship there from an Edinburgh flight is about 105 km and 1h 30min by car, on motorway most of the way and the A8 into Greenock, with the luggage loaded once.

Pickup: Edinburgh Airport (EDI)
Edinburgh Airport is at Ingliston, west of the city. Taxis and private hire vehicles are found in the East Terminus, across the plaza from the main terminal; the charged pickup zone is on the ground floor of the multi-story car park, and the car parks are cashless. Your carrier confirms where to meet in the booking chat.
Popular Pickup Points:
- • Meet at arrivals or the East Terminus, name board ready
- • Flight monitoring, so a late landing does not lose you the car
- • Late arrivals covered after the last train
- • Luggage declared at booking, vehicle sized to match
Drop-off: Glasgow city
A transfer drives to any Glasgow address: city-center hotels around George Square and Buchanan Street, Queen Street and Central stations, the Merchant City, the West End and the suburbs. The city center sits inside Glasgow's Low Emission Zone, in force around the clock since 1 June 2023, so the car must meet its standard.
Popular Drop-off Points:
- • City-center hotels around George Square
- • Queen Street and Central stations
- • West End hotels and Kelvingrove
- • Homes and apartments across the city
Local Route Knowledge
Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.
Best Travel Times
Midday and evening landings run cleanest. The motorway slows at the Glasgow end, where the city-center stretch runs over capacity in the morning and evening peaks, so a weekday rush-hour arrival needs slack. In August the Edinburgh Festival Fringe fills the city and its airport: it runs from 6 to 30 August 2027.
Traffic Patterns
From the terminal the car takes Eastfield Road to the A8 and joins the M8 within about 6 km, then stays on it for about 57 km. For the city center it leaves at junction 15, signed Cathedral and Glasgow Cross; for the West End it carries on along the M8 toward Kelvingrove.
Road & Border Notes
There is no border, and the drive is motorway nearly all the way. Glasgow's city center is a Low Emission Zone, enforced by cameras 24 hours a day since 1 June 2023: a petrol car must be Euro 4 and a diesel Euro 6. The M8 itself is outside the zone, and the West End drop beyond it is too.
Carrier Tip
Give the full Glasgow address, not just Glasgow: Queen Street, the West End and the southside are different ends of the city. Declare large cases when you book, because they decide the vehicle. Say if you are going on to Greenock for a cruise.

When to Travel This Route
Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.
Winter (Dec-Mar)
Festival JanuaryThe motorway does not change with the season. Celtic Connections fills Glasgow's venues in the second half of January.
- Celtic Connections, Glasgow, 14 to 31 January 2027
Spring (Apr-May)
SteadyLonger days and steady traffic. The weekday rush hour at the Glasgow end of the M8 is the thing to plan around, not the season.
Summer (Jun-Aug)
Peak DemandAugust is Edinburgh's festival month, and Greenock on the Clyde takes cruise calls. Book the car when you book the flight.
- Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 6 to 30 August 2027
- Greenock Ocean Terminal, about 105 km from EDI
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
SteadyAfter the festival summer the same M8, and late arrivals in the dark, where the car beats the last connection.

Important Information
Meeting your driver at Edinburgh Airport
Taxis and private hire vehicles are found in the East Terminus, across the plaza from the main terminal. The charged pickup zone is on the ground floor of the multi-story car park, and the airport's car parks are cashless. Your carrier confirms the meeting point in the booking chat; give it the flight number so it can track the landing.
Landing late
Your carrier tracks the flight, so a late landing moves the pickup rather than losing it. By public transport, the last rail connection leaves the airport at 23:20 Monday to Saturday and 23:00 on Sunday; after that it is the overnight coach to Buchanan Street, or a car that is already waiting.
Glasgow's Low Emission Zone
Glasgow city center is a Low Emission Zone, enforced by cameras 24 hours a day since 1 June 2023. Petrol cars must meet Euro 4 and diesel cars Euro 6. The M8 itself and the West End are outside the zone.
Luggage
Declare large cases and anything oversized when you book. The car is chosen for the bags as much as for the seats, so a family with several cases may need an estate or a minivan rather than a sedan.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the drive from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow?
About 55 minutes in free-flowing traffic, for about 65 km on the M8 from the airport to Glasgow city center. The slow part is the Glasgow end, where the city-center stretch of the M8 runs over capacity in the morning and evening peaks, so allow more in the weekday rush hour.
How much does a private transfer from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow cost?
On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €125 per vehicle for a sedan and €175 for a minivan, one way; estates and minibuses are quoted on request. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so three people in a sedan pay about €42 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date.
Is there a train from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow?
Not from the airport itself, which has no station. You take the tram or a bus to Haymarket or Edinburgh Park and change to a ScotRail train to Glasgow Queen Street; the whole trip takes about 1h10 to 1h30, up to 1h40 on Sundays. A private transfer takes about 55 minutes to your Glasgow address with no change and no bags on a platform.
Is there a direct bus from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow?
Yes. A direct airport coach leaves from Stop D for Glasgow's Buchanan Street bus station, up to every 20 minutes in the day and hourly through the night, and takes about an hour. It ends at the bus station, so a private transfer is the option that goes on to your hotel or home.
What time is the last train from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow?
The last rail connection leaves the airport at 23:20 Monday to Saturday, with a bus to Haymarket and a train reaching Glasgow Queen Street at about 00:37; on Sunday it leaves at 23:00. The last tram leaves the airport at 22:52. A pre-booked private transfer waits for a delayed flight, whatever the hour.
Should I fly into Edinburgh or Glasgow Airport for Glasgow?
If Glasgow is your destination and Glasgow Airport has the flight you want, fly there: it is about 15 km from George Square. Edinburgh Airport is Scotland's busiest, with 15.8 million passengers in 2024 against Glasgow's 8.06 million and more European destinations, so it often has the better flight; from there Glasgow is about 65 km and 55 minutes by car.
Does Glasgow's Low Emission Zone affect a transfer from Edinburgh Airport?
Only in the sense that the car must comply. Glasgow city center has been a Low Emission Zone since 1 June 2023, enforced by cameras 24 hours a day; petrol cars must meet Euro 4 and diesel cars Euro 6. The M8 is outside the zone, and meeting the standard for a city-center drop is the carrier's job, not the passenger's.
When is a private transfer better than the train from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow?
When you have more than a carry-on, when three or more of you share the car, when you land after the last connection at 23:20, when your Glasgow address is not near Queen Street station, or when you are going on to a cruise at Greenock. One person with a backpack landing at midday does fine on the tram and train; everyone else gets a car that waits if the flight slips.
Why Book This Route?
- • About 65 km and 55 minutes from the airport to your door, against a tram, a change at Haymarket or Edinburgh Park and a train
- • Waits for a late or delayed flight, so the 23:20 last connection does not decide your night
- • Goes to the West End, the southside or a Greenock cruise berth, not just to Queen Street
- • A vehicle that meets Glasgow's Low Emission Zone standard for a city-center drop
- • Quoted per vehicle, not per head: six in a minivan pay about €29 each

What our customers say
Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
Thomas B. - London, UK Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
Marta R. - Munich, Germany Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
Olivier D. - Lyon, France Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
Sarah K. - Dublin, Ireland Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
Pieter V. - Amsterdam, Netherlands I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
Anna-Lisa M. - Vienna, Austria
