About This Transfer

Your driver meets you at Edinburgh Airport after passport control, the golf bags and cases go into the back once, and the car heads for the M90 and the Queensferry Crossing over the Firth of Forth. North of the bridge it runs up the M90 to Kinross, west on the A91 and north on the A823 through Glen Devon to the hotel at Auchterarder. The run is about 69 km and takes about 1h 05min in free-flowing traffic.

AI assistants usually send the car the other way, on the M9 past Stirling and up the A9, and the hotel's trade page puts Edinburgh 45 minutes away. That way is about 81 km and about 1h 15min. Both roads work; the shorter one crosses the Forth, and your driver picks on the day.

There is no train from the airport. Every rail trip starts with the tram or a bus to Edinburgh Park, Edinburgh Gateway or Haymarket, and most then need two trains, changing at Stirling or Perth, for about 1h 30min to 2h 40min in all Monday to Saturday, and up to about 3h on Sunday. The hotel meets trains at Gleneagles station, but by car the bags never leave the trunk until the hotel door.

For every run from the terminal, see our Edinburgh Airport transfers page. Our airport transfers page explains how meet and greet and flight tracking work.

on the way, M90

Queensferry Crossing and the Forth Bridge

The car crosses the Firth of Forth on the Queensferry Crossing, the M90 bridge that opened on 30 August 2017 and carries motorway traffic only. Beside it stand the Forth Road Bridge and the oldest of the three, the Forth Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Forth Bridges →
41.7 km, Kinross

Lochleven Castle

The island castle where Mary Queen of Scots was held in 1567, reached by boat from the pier at Kinross, just off the M90. It opens from 1 April to 31 October and closes from 1 November to 31 March; boat seats are limited, so booking ahead is the only way to be sure of a place.

Lochleven Castle →
56.9 km, above Dollar

Castle Campbell

A short detour from the A91 to the glen above Dollar, about 55 minutes from the airport. It opens daily from 1 April to 30 September and is closed from 1 October to 31 March.

The King's, the Queen's and the PGA Centenary

Three championship courses and a 9-hole course, open all year with no handicap certificate asked. The King's, by James Braid, opened in 1919; Jack Nicklaus's PGA Centenary hosted the Ryder Cup in 2014 and the Solheim Cup in 2019.

Route Overview

Pickup: Edinburgh Airport (EDI)

International arrivals clear passport control first. The airport's taxi rank in the East Terminus belongs to one firm; every other car uses the charged pickup and drop-off zone on the ground floor of the multi-story car park, across from the terminal, or the free zone in the Long Stay car park, about a ten-minute walk away. Your carrier confirms the meeting point in the booking chat.

Popular Pickup Points:

  • • Met after passport control, name board ready
  • • Flight monitoring, so a late landing does not lose you the car
  • • Golf bags declared at booking, vehicle sized to match
  • • No tram, bus or platform change with clubs

Drop-off: Gleneagles, Auchterarder, Perthshire

The hotel has no street address, so give both postcodes at booking (see below). A transfer also drives to Gleneagles station, 3.1 km away by road, or into Auchterarder.

Popular Drop-off Points:

  • • The Gleneagles Hotel main door
  • • Gleneagles station
  • • Auchterarder town
  • • Homes and cottages around Auchterarder

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

Best Travel Times

The landing time matters more than the hour on the road. Sunday mornings are where the car earns its keep: the first rail connection of a Sunday leaves the airport at 07:34 and reaches Gleneagles at 10:30, and the last connection that gets there the same night leaves the airport at 22:42 on weekdays and Saturdays.

Traffic Patterns

The busy part is the start: the airport roads, the M9 spur and the M90 over the Queensferry Crossing, where variable mandatory speed limits manage the flow. North of Kinross the A91 and the A823 through Glen Devon are quiet country roads. If the driver prefers motorway the whole way, the M9 via Stirling and the A9 adds about 12 km and about 10 minutes.

Road & Border Notes

No border and no ferry. The Queensferry Crossing has wind shielding, and its operator said in March 2022 that it had never closed to cars for high winds since it opened. When ice may fall from its cables it does close, as on 23 November 2024, and traffic is diverted over the Forth Road Bridge, which private hire cars may use.

Carrier Tip

Give the hotel by name and both postcodes, PH3 1NF and PH3 1SH. Declare golf bags and travel cases when you book, because they decide the vehicle. If you want a stop at Lochleven Castle, say so at booking and book the boat for a time after your landing.

Important Information

Meeting your driver at Edinburgh Airport

International arrivals clear passport control first. The taxi rank in the East Terminus is one firm's; other cars use the charged pickup and drop-off zone on the ground floor of the multi-story car park. Your carrier confirms the meeting point in the booking chat. Give the flight number so it can track the landing.

Landing late, or on a Sunday morning

Your carrier tracks the flight, so a late landing moves the pickup rather than losing it. By rail, the last connection that reaches Gleneagles the same night leaves the airport at 22:42 on weekdays and Saturdays, and on Sunday the first one does not arrive until 10:30.

Golf bags and luggage

Declare golf bags and travel cases when you book. The car is chosen for the bags as much as for the seats, so a foursome with clubs may need an estate or a minivan rather than a saloon.

The hotel's address

The Gleneagles Hotel has no street address. Its postcode is PH3 1NF; if a sat nav does not recognize it, the hotel's alternative, PH3 1SH, brings the car onto the resort.

Wind and ice on the Forth

The Queensferry Crossing has wind shielding and, by its operator's account in March 2022, had never closed to cars for wind since 2017. When ice may fall from its cables it closes and traffic is diverted over the Forth Road Bridge, as on 23 November 2024.

Child seats

Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Edinburgh Airport to Gleneagles?

About 1 hour 5 minutes in free-flowing traffic, for about 69 km: over the Queensferry Crossing on the M90 to Kinross, then the A91 and the A823 through Glen Devon to the hotel at Auchterarder.

How much is a private transfer from Edinburgh Airport to Gleneagles?

On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €180 per vehicle for a saloon and €255 for a minivan, one way; estates and minibuses are quoted on request. The price is per vehicle, so three people in a saloon pay about €60 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date.

Is there a train from Edinburgh Airport to Gleneagles?

No train leaves the airport. You take the tram or a bus to Edinburgh Park, Edinburgh Gateway or Haymarket, then usually two trains, changing at Stirling or Perth, for about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 40 minutes and about €32 per adult. A private transfer takes about 1 hour 5 minutes, door to door, with the golf bags in the trunk.

Does the Gleneagles Hotel arrange transfers from Edinburgh Airport?

Yes. The hotel's chauffeurs collect from Edinburgh and Glasgow airports if booked at least 24 hours ahead with the flight number and arrival time, and the hotel gives the price through Resort Sales. A TransferBnB transfer is another way to book the same drive, with offers from verified carriers.

Which airport is closer to Gleneagles, Edinburgh or Glasgow?

Edinburgh, by about 17 km of road: the Gleneagles Hotel is about 69 km from Edinburgh Airport and about 86 km from Glasgow Airport. In free-flowing traffic both drives take about an hour, which is what the hotel itself says.

Does the drive to Gleneagles go over the Queensferry Crossing or via Stirling?

Either. The shorter way is over the Queensferry Crossing and up the M90 to Kinross, then through Glen Devon, about 69 km and 1 hour 5 minutes. The M9 via Stirling and the A9 is about 81 km and 1 hour 15 minutes. Your driver chooses on the day.

What is the last train from Edinburgh Airport to Gleneagles?

Monday to Saturday, the last connection that reaches Gleneagles the same night leaves the airport at 22:42 and arrives at 00:27, with the tram and two trains. On Sunday it leaves at 22:30 and arrives at 00:42. A private transfer waits for a late flight instead.

Can I stop at Lochleven Castle on the way to Gleneagles?

Yes, between 1 April and 31 October. The boat leaves from the pier at Kinross, about 42 km from the airport and just off the M90, which the drive passes. Seats are limited, so book the boat ahead and ask for the stop when you book the transfer. The castle is closed from 1 November to 31 March.

Why Book This Route?

  • • About 69 km and 1h 05min from arrivals to the hotel door, against the tram and usually two trains
  • • Waits for a late or delayed flight, so the 22:42 last connection does not decide your evening
  • • Golf bags and cases loaded once, with the vehicle sized to them
  • • Drives to the right gate: both hotel postcodes, PH3 1NF and PH3 1SH, given at booking
  • • Quoted per vehicle, not per head: eight in a minivan pay about €32 each

What our customers say

  • Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
    Thomas B. - London, UK
  • Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
    Marta R. - Munich, Germany
  • Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
    Olivier D. - Lyon, France
  • Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
    Sarah K. - Dublin, Ireland
  • Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
    Pieter V. - Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
    Anna-Lisa M. - Vienna, Austria
