About This Transfer
The car collects you at your Kaprun door, or at the lift base if you have skied the morning, the bags go in once, and the next stop is Salzburg Airport departures. It leaves Kaprun on the Mittersill road through Schüttdorf, rejoins the B311 near Bruck without going into Zell am See, and runs down the Salzach valley past Taxenbach, Lend and St. Johann im Pongau to Bischofshofen, where it joins the A10 Tauern motorway at Knoten Pongau.
About 45 km of A10 later it reaches Knoten Salzburg, and the last 2.7 km on the A1 to the airport's own exit need no vignette. The whole run is about 100 km and about 1h 25min in ordinary traffic. It stays in Austria from door to terminal, and there is no Tauern tunnel toll on it.
Salzburg Airport asks you to be there two hours before departure. Ski and board bags go to the regular check-in counter, not to self bag drop, so a group with equipment should not arrive at the last minute. For a 15:00 flight, that means a Kaprun pickup at 11:35 at the latest on a clear weekday, and earlier on a winter Saturday.
The public route back is two buses, bus 660 to Zell am See station and bus 260 from there to the airport, and the 260 runs by the Lofer road through Germany. The current bus times are valid to 12 December 2026, and in the winter season the Kaprun to Zell am See leg is the ski bus, free with a valid Kitzsteinhorn ticket. A last morning on the Kitzsteinhorn
Autumn glacier day passes are valid from 8 AM, and the lifts start from the base at Kesselfallstraße 60, 7 km up the valley from the village. With an evening flight, a morning's skiing and a pickup at the lift base is realistic, as long as the pickup time is set from the flight. From the glacier base the drive is about 6 minutes longer than from the village.

A gorge up to 32 m deep and 320 m long, cut by the glacier meltwater of the Kapruner Ache in Kaprun itself. The walkways open only in summer. On a late summer flight it fills the last morning without taking you far from the pickup.

A 900-year-old fortified castle with birds-of-prey flight demonstrations, at the Werfen exit, km 42.4 of the A10. On the way home it only makes sense with a late flight and a carrier told in advance, because waiting time is priced, not assumed.

Weekday departures are the simple case: about 1h 25min on the road. Busy Saturdays, school holidays and heavy snow make it longer, by the operators' own account, and nobody publishes how much, so on a winter Saturday agree a pickup earlier than the 3h 25min minimum.
Traffic Patterns
The first part of the drive is the B311 down the Salzach valley, the main road out of the Pinzgau, with a tunnel round Schwarzach and four-lane stretches between Taxenbach and Lend. The last part is about 45 km of A10. If the valley road is blocked, the Lofer road through Bad Reichenhall is the fallback.
Road & Border Notes
No border on the standard route. The A10 needs a vignette, which the carrier normally pays; the last 2.7 km of A1 to the airport exit do not. From 1 November to 15 April Austria requires winter equipment in wintry conditions, and the glacier road sometimes needs chains after snowfall. The Lofer road enters Germany at the Steinpass, where Germany's entry controls, planned to 15 March 2027, apply.
