About This Transfer

Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Kraków Airport, the skis and cases go into the back once, and within minutes the car is on the A4 heading east round Kraków. At the far side of the city it turns south onto the S7, the start of the road known as the Zakopianka, runs through Myślenice and the Luboń Mały tunnel to Rabka, and finishes on the DK47 through Nowy Targ into Zakopane. The whole run is about 112 km and takes about 1h 40min in free-flowing traffic.

That is 15 minutes more than the 1h 25min figure that circulates, and operators who drive the route publish about 2 hours. Weekends are slower still: the road authority counts more traffic on the Zakopianka at weekends than on weekdays, because it is a holiday road first and a through road second.

There is no toll to pay. The only tolled stretch of the A4 runs west from Balice toward Katowice, and the drive turns east; Polish expressways are free for cars. There is no train from the airport to Zakopane either: every rail trip changes at Kraków Główny, and the quickest chain on the current timetable takes 2h42.

Zakopane is the Tatra side of a Kraków trip, and the car goes to the hotel, the guesthouse or the nearest point to the Kasprowy Wierch cable car. For every run from the terminal, see our Kraków Airport transfers page. Our ski resort transfers page explains what skis, boards and group size do to a quote, and the Budapest, Prague and Kraków airport transfers guide covers the airport itself.

💡 Stop requests: Most carriers on this route are happy to make short stops at viewpoints or towns. Mention it when booking or ask your driver directly.
🚡from Kuźnice, Zakopane

Kasprowy Wierch

The cable car climbs to 1,987 m in about 15 minutes, with a change of cabin at Myślenickie Turnie, and in season leaves every 10 minutes. The Kuźnice road is closed to private cars, with only scheduled buses and taxis allowed up, so the transfer stops in town and the last stretch is a bus or, by the PKL's reckoning, a walk of about 40 minutes up from the Jana Pawła II roundabout. Be at Kuźnice 15 minutes before the time on your ticket.

PKL Kasprowy Wierch →
🏔️above the town centre

Gubałówka

The funicular climbs from Zakopane to the top of Gubałówka, 1,123 m, across the valley from the Tatras. It is the easy outing for anyone in the group who is not skiing.

Wielka Krokiew and the World Cup

The FIS Ski Jumping World Cup comes to Zakopane on 16 and 17 January 2027, with qualification, a team event and individual competitions on the Wielka Krokiew. Book the car early for that weekend.

🏞️Tatra National Park

Morskie Oko

The Tatras' best-known lake is a walk from Palenica Białczańska. Parking there and at Łysa Polana must be booked in advance on the national park's site, by midnight the day before, so a day trip needs planning either way.

Route Overview

Pickup: Kraków Airport (KRK)

The airport is about 11 km west of Kraków. The Kiss & Fly lane gives a car 8 minutes free and then charges PLN 5.00 for every 4 minutes, and drivers may not leave the car there, so a driver who meets you in the hall leaves the car in a car park, the P1 multi-storey or P2 and P3, and walks in with your name.

Popular Pickup Points:

• Meet in the arrivals hall, name board ready
• Flight monitoring, so a late landing does not lose you the car
• Late arrivals covered, after the last useful train
• Ski and board bags declared at booking, vehicle sized to match

Drop-off: Zakopane, Podhale, Małopolska

A transfer drives to most Zakopane addresses: hotels, guesthouses and apartments on the hillsides as well as in town. Kuźnice, the Kasprowy Wierch cable car station, is closed to private cars, so skiers heading straight up are dropped in town and continue by bus or on foot. Give the full address, not just Zakopane.

Popular Drop-off Points:

• Hotels, guesthouses and apartments in Zakopane
• Near the Jana Pawła II roundabout, for Kuźnice
• Near the Gubałówka funicular
• Zakopane railway station, if you are meeting others

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

🕐

Best Travel Times

Weekdays run cleanest. The road authority counts more traffic on the Zakopianka at weekends than on weekdays, and the Polish school winter holidays fill it for six weeks, from 18 January to 28 February 2027, with Małopolska's own children off from 15 to 28 February. The World Cup weekend, 16 and 17 January 2027, lands just before the first wave.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

The expressway part is quick: the A4 round Kraków, then the S7 through Myślenice and the Luboń Mały tunnel, which cut about 25 minutes off the trip to Podhale when it opened in November 2022. The DK47 is a dual carriageway as far as Nowy Targ. Beyond Nowy Targ, on the stretch to Szaflary, it runs partly through built-up areas, and the road authority itself says jams form there in the tourist season. On a summer weekday about 22,000 vehicles use the tunnel; Friday to Sunday it is almost 29,000, and the winter-holiday record is over 34,000 in a day.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

The drive stays in Poland and costs nothing in tolls: the tolled A4 stretch runs west of the airport, and expressways are free for cars. Poland has no legal winter-tyre requirement; winter or all-season tyres are only recommended, so ask the carrier to confirm winter tyres when you book. The Luboń Mały tunnel has section speed control.

💡

Carrier Tip

Give the full address and the lift you want: Kuźnice is closed to private cars, so a Kasprowy morning starts with a drop in town. Declare skis, boards and boot bags when you book, because they decide the vehicle. If you land after 18:00, say so: on the current timetable the 18:17 airport train is the last one that reaches Zakopane before 23:00, and the car does not depend on it.

Important Information

Meeting your driver at Kraków Airport
Kiss & Fly is for drop off and pick up only: 8 minutes free, then PLN 5.00 for every 4 minutes, and drivers may not leave the car. A driver who meets you in the hall leaves the car in a car park and walks in. Give your carrier the flight number so it can track the landing.
Landing late
On the current timetable, to 12 December 2026, the 18:17 airport train is the last one that reaches Zakopane the same evening at a normal hour, at 21:04. The 18:47 takes 4h19 and arrives at 23:06. A pre-booked car does not depend on either.
Kuźnice is closed to private cars
The Kasprowy Wierch cable car station at Kuźnice cannot be reached by private car; only scheduled buses and taxis may drive up. The carrier drops you in town; the PKL gives about 40 minutes for the walk up from the Jana Pawła II roundabout, or take the bus. Be at Kuźnice 15 minutes before the time on your ticket.
Winter tyres and tolls
Poland has no legal winter-tyre requirement; winter or all-season tyres are recommended. There is no toll on this drive: the tolled A4 runs west of the airport, and expressways are free for cars.
Skis, boards and luggage
Declare ski bags, board bags and boot bags when you book. They decide the vehicle: a saloon carrying three passengers will not also carry three hard ski cases.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Krakow Airport to Zakopane?
About 1 hour 40 minutes in free-flowing traffic, for about 112 km: the A4 round Kraków, the S7 south through Myślenice and the Luboń Mały tunnel, then the DK47 through Nowy Targ. Weekends and the Polish winter school holidays are slower, because the road carries more traffic then.
How much does a private transfer from Krakow Airport to Zakopane cost?
On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €145 per vehicle for a saloon, €205 for a minivan and €275 for a minibus, one way. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so three people in a saloon pay under €50 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date.
Is there a train from Krakow Airport to Zakopane?
Not a direct one. The airport train runs to Kraków Główny in 17 minutes for PLN 20, and you change there for a train to Zakopane. On the current timetable, valid to 12 December 2026, the whole trip takes 2h42 to 3h58. A private transfer takes about 1h 40min with no change.
What is the nearest airport to Zakopane?
Poprad-Tatry in Slovakia, about 73 km and 1h 25min by road. Kraków Airport is about 112 km and 1h 40min, about 15 minutes longer to drive, and Katowice about 205 km and 2h 40min, about an hour longer than Kraków.
Are there tolls or a winter tyre rule on the way from Krakow Airport to Zakopane?
No toll: the only tolled stretch of the A4 runs west of the airport toward Katowice, and the drive turns east onto the free Kraków bypass and the S7 expressway. Poland has no legal winter-tyre requirement, but winter or all-season tyres are recommended; on a private transfer, ask the carrier to confirm winter tyres when you book.
When is the Zakopianka busiest?
At weekends, and in the Polish school winter holidays, which run from 18 January to 28 February 2027 in three waves. The road authority counts more traffic on weekends than weekdays: in summer about 22,000 vehicles a day Monday to Thursday against almost 29,000 Friday to Sunday, with a winter-holiday record of over 34,000 in one day.
Can a transfer drop me at the Kasprowy Wierch cable car?
Not at the door. Kuźnice, where the cable car starts, is closed to private cars. The transfer drops you in Zakopane, and the PKL gives about 40 minutes for the walk up from the Jana Pawła II roundabout or a short bus ride. Be at Kuźnice 15 minutes before the departure time on your ticket.
When is the ski jumping World Cup in Zakopane?
On 16 and 17 January 2027, on the Wielka Krokiew: qualification, a team competition and individual competitions. Book the transfer early for that weekend.

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
