The plateau's 2027 events end on dates worth knowing: the Winter Deaflympics on 24 January, the Nordic Combined Triple World Cup in Seefeld on 31 January, and the Ganghoferlauf in Leutasch on 7 March.
Traffic Patterns
The drive is short, so the risk is not traffic but the Zirlerberg. On the night of 25 to 26 November 2023 a car transporter skidded on snow going down and closed it from 00:10 to 05:30. On 21 November 2025 two lorries collided on the snow-covered road and it stayed shut until the early evening. On 27 August 2026 a small lorry overturned at about 08:30. The way round is via Mösern and Telfs, about 40 km. Nobody publishes a snowfall drive time for this road, so treat any figure you are quoted as a carrier's estimate.
Road & Border Notes
There is no border: the whole drive is in Tyrol. The vignette is optional. The usual route uses the A12 from Zirl, which is not one of Austria's four vignette-free sections, but the B171 along the valley reaches the airport with no motorway and costs about a minute. Austrian winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April: cars need winter tyres in wintry conditions, and chains may replace them only on a road fully covered in snow or ice.
