The road onto the Seefeld plateau is the Zirlerberg, a 16 percent climb on the B177 above Zirl. It has closed several times since 2023, including twice on snow in November, and on those days the way round is via Telfs and Mösern, about 40 km. At the top, the heart of Seefeld is a car-free pedestrian zone. Some hotels inside it arrange access for luggage and some do not, so the drop point depends on the hotel.

About This Transfer
You get into the car outside the one terminal at Innsbruck and within minutes you are heading west along the Inn. Innsbruck Airport to Seefeld in Tirol is about 22 km and 26 minutes in free flow: 3.6 km of the A12 west to the Zirl junction, then the B177 up the Zirlerberg, a 16 percent climb of about 560 m from Zirl at 622 m to Seefeld at 1,180 m. The driver stops at your hotel, or at the point your hotel names if it sits inside the pedestrian zone.
It is a short transfer, and it is not a flat one. The road has closed several times since 2023, including on snow in November 2023 and November 2025. A carrier who drives it every week knows when to take the longer road via Telfs and Mösern.
Seefeld has a real train, and we will not pretend otherwise. On the planner's timetable valid to 12 December 2026, bus F from the terminal, a 6-minute walk to Innsbruck-Hötting station and the S6 reach Seefeld in 41 to 54 minutes with one change, and the station sits at the entrance to the pedestrian zone. For two people with light bags landing at midday, that is a good way up. It is a different trip at 22:30 with ski bags, when the 22:40 bus is the last connection of the night.

Martinswand and the Kaiser-Max-Grotte
Across the Inn from the motorway at Zirl, the limestone wall holds a grotto about 200 m above the valley floor, with a crucifix and a kneeling figure of Emperor Maximilian I carved in 1936. The legend is that Maximilian, hunting chamois in 1484, was stranded on the face and rescued.

At 1,200 m the plateau carries 245 km of trails linking Seefeld, Leutasch, Mösern, Reith and Scharnitz, a night trail from Monday to Friday, and the Arena365 centre, with direct access to the 2019 World Championship course. Children ski the trails free until their 15th birthday.

Innsbruck has one terminal, so there is no terminal to get wrong. Carriers usually meet you in the arrivals hall with a name board, and yours confirms the meeting point before the day. On the airport's November 2025 tariff sheet the car parks allow a free exit within 10 minutes, which is not enough to meet a winter flight, so a driver meeting you parks and pays. Under the airport's car park conditions of use (2024 version), commercial carriers may use the car parks only with a quota permit and an agreement with the airport company.

Winter Saturdays and Sundays are the two days the airport's slot coordinator fully coordinates, so arrivals bunch then. The plateau has three event blocks in 2027: the Winter Deaflympics from 15 to 24 January, with events at Seefeld's Arena365, the Nordic Combined Triple World Cup in Seefeld from 29 to 31 January, and the 60th Ganghoferlauf in Leutasch on 6 and 7 March, Austria's largest and oldest cross-country race.
Traffic Patterns
The drive is short, so the risk is not traffic but the Zirlerberg itself. On the night of 25 to 26 November 2023 a car transporter skidded on snow and closed it from 00:10 to 05:30. On 21 November 2025 two lorries collided on the snow-covered road and it stayed shut until the early evening. On 27 August 2026 a small lorry overturned at about 08:30. The way round is via Telfs and Mösern, about 40 km. Nobody publishes a Saturday or snowfall drive time for this road, so treat any figure you are quoted as a carrier's estimate.
Road & Border Notes
There is no border: the whole drive is in Tyrol. The vignette is optional. The usual route uses 3.6 km of the A12, which is not one of Austria's four vignette-free sections, but staying on the B171 through Zirl reaches the Zirlerberg with no motorway at all and costs 82 seconds. Austrian winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April: cars need winter tyres in wintry conditions, and chains may replace them only on a road fully covered in snow or ice. The 2023 closure was a lorry on winter tyres without chains fitted.
