Serfaus is car-free in winter, and a licensed taxi may still reach the door
From 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027 Serfaus is closed to motor traffic under a district ordinance (VBl. LA Nr. 7/2024). A licensed taxi carrying arriving guests is exempt and needs no permit. A minibus or other passenger vehicle that is not a taxi may drive in only on the shortest route, with the Gemeinde's permit card on the vehicle. Fiss and Ladis publish no equivalent ban.
The Landeck Tunnel on the way closes nightly from 19:30 to 06:00 until 12 October 2026, then day and night from 06:00 on 12 October to 06:00 on 7 December 2026, with a diversion through Zams and Landeck.
About This Transfer
You get into the car outside the one terminal at Innsbruck and follow the A12 west up the Inn valley for about 69 km, through the Landeck Tunnel and onto the B180 towards the Reschen pass. At Ried im Oberinntal, 876 m, the road turns up the L19 onto the plateau. The turn for Ladis comes first, then Fiss, then Serfaus. Innsbruck Airport to Serfaus is about 89 km and 1h 10min in free flow; Fiss is about 86 km and Ladis about 83 km, both about an hour.
Three villages share one ski area and one road, and they are three different drops. Ladis sits at 1,189 m, Fiss at 1,438 m and Serfaus at 1,429 m, and Serfaus to Ladis is 7.7 km. Serfaus is the one with rules: its village street has been closed to private traffic since 1970, and the whole village is a 20 km/h shared space where pedestrians have priority.
The public route works in daylight and stops early. There is no railway station at the airport, so it takes buses in Innsbruck, a train to Landeck-Zams and the bus up to the plateau: on the planner's timetable for 5 December 2026 that is about 2 hours 15 minutes to Ladis and up to 3 hours to Serfaus, with two or three changes. The last airport departure that reaches Serfaus that day leaves at 17:03. Land at 18:00 and the next public arrival in Serfaus is 07:10 the following morning.

Pontlatz Bridge and the bronze eagle
The Pontlatz bridge over the Inn saw Tyrolean riflemen fight Bavarian and French troops in 1703 and again in 1809. A bronze eagle erected in 1904 watches the bridge from the bank, poised to strike. It sits beside the B180, a few minutes before the turn up to the plateau.

The castle above Landeck houses the Museum Schloss Landeck. It opens daily from 13:00 to 17:00 from mid-December to 6 January 2027, closed on 1 January, and daily from 10:00 to 17:00 from 25 April to 26 October 2026. On the way down after a Christmas week, it is a short detour from Landeck.

The Cistercian abbey at Stams sits in the Inn valley between Innsbruck and Landeck and holds the burial place of the Tyrolean princes. From October to May it opens for a guided tour every Thursday at 16:00, which suits a relaxed departure day better than an arrival.

Serfaus has run an air-cushion underground since 1985, free of charge, carrying up to 3,000 people an hour from the village to the cable car valley station. In winter 2026/27 it runs from 07:45 to 18:45, from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. It is how you reach the lifts all week, and the reason no car needs to.

Innsbruck has one terminal, so there is no terminal to get wrong. Carriers usually meet you in the arrivals hall with a name board, and yours confirms the meeting point before the day. On the airport's November 2025 tariff sheet the car parks allow a free exit within 10 minutes, which is not enough to meet a winter flight, so a driver meeting you parks and pays. Under the airport's car park conditions of use (2024 version), commercial carriers may use the car parks only with a quota permit and an agreement with the airport company, which is one reason to book a carrier that already works Innsbruck.

Ladis, at 1,189 m, is the first turn off the L19, then Fiss at 1,438 m and Serfaus at 1,429 m. The season opens on 4 December 2026 and the long high season runs from 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027, with a second high-season block from 20 to 29 March 2027. For a family, put the child seats and the ski bags in the request, because they decide the vehicle.
Traffic Patterns
The motorway is the easy part; the Landeck Tunnel is the variable. It is closed day and night from 06:00 on 12 October to 06:00 on 7 December 2026, so the first weekend of the season still uses the diversion on the L76 and B171 through Zams and Landeck. That adds about 6 km and, in free flow, about 10 minutes, before any town traffic. From 2027 to 2030 the tunnel closes for about a month each spring and two months each autumn. Nobody publishes a Saturday or snowfall drive time for this route, so treat any figure you are quoted as a carrier's estimate.
Road & Border Notes
There is no border: the whole drive is in Tyrol. There is a vignette. None of Austria's four vignette-free motorway sections is on this road, and the resort states that a vignette is required through the Landeck Tunnel. Austrian winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April; cars need winter tyres in wintry conditions. The last 9 km climb from 876 m at Ried to the plateau, and the region says the roads are well cleared as a rule, with chains made compulsory at short notice in heavy snow.
