Serfaus is car-free in winter, and a licensed taxi may still collect you at the door
From 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027 Serfaus is closed to motor traffic under a district ordinance (VBl. LA Nr. 7/2024). A licensed taxi carrying departing guests is exempt and needs no permit. A minibus or other passenger vehicle that is not a taxi may drive in and out only on the shortest route, with the Gemeinde's permit card on the vehicle. Fiss and Ladis publish no equivalent ban.
The Landeck Tunnel on the way down closes nightly from 19:30 to 06:00 until 12 October 2026, then day and night from 06:00 on 12 October to 06:00 on 7 December 2026, with a diversion through Landeck and Zams.
About This Transfer
The car collects you at the hotel door on the plateau and runs down the L19 to Ried im Oberinntal, north on the B180, through the Landeck Tunnel and east on the A12 to the one terminal at Innsbruck. Serfaus to Innsbruck Airport is about 89 km and 1h 10min in free flow; from Fiss it is about 86 km and from Ladis about 83 km, both about an hour. The first stretch is the 20 km/h shared space in Serfaus, then the descent to 876 m at Ried.

Pontlatz Bridge and the bronze eagle
Shortly after the turn off the plateau road, the B180 passes the Pontlatz bridge over the Inn, where Tyrolean riflemen fought Bavarian and French troops in 1703 and again in 1809. A bronze eagle erected in 1904 watches the bridge from the bank, poised to strike.

The castle above Landeck houses the Museum Schloss Landeck. It opens daily from 13:00 to 17:00 from mid-December to 6 January 2027, closed on 1 January, and daily from 10:00 to 17:00 from 25 April to 26 October 2026. With an evening flight and an afternoon to spare, it is a short detour on the way down.

The Cistercian abbey at Stams sits in the Inn valley between Landeck and Innsbruck and holds the burial place of the Tyrolean princes. From October to May it opens for a guided tour every Thursday at 16:00, worth arranging with the carrier on a Thursday with a late flight.

Serfaus has run an air-cushion underground since 1985, free of charge, carrying up to 3,000 people an hour from the village to the cable car valley station. In winter 2026/27 it runs from 07:45 to 18:45, so on a departure morning before 07:45 it is not yet running, and the car at the door does the job.

Fiss and Ladis publish no equivalent ban, so a pickup there is an ordinary hotel door.

Drop-off: Innsbruck Airport (INN)
Innsbruck has one terminal, so there is only one departures door. The airport's base operating hours are 06:30 to 20:00, with an extended window from 06:00 for commercial propeller flights no noisier than a Dash 8. A taxi stand sits directly in front of the terminal, but nothing public reaches the airport from the plateau before about 09:00, so an early flight is a booked car or nothing.

Best Travel Times
The busiest departure days are Saturdays and Sundays in the high season, 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027 and 20 to 29 March 2027, the two days the airport's slot coordinator fully coordinates in winter. The last departures of the season fall on the weekend of 4 April 2027, when the Serfaus driving ban ends.
Traffic Patterns
Allow for the Landeck Tunnel. It closes nightly from 19:30 to 06:00 until 12 October 2026 and day and night from 06:00 on 12 October to 06:00 on 7 December 2026; the diversion through Landeck and Zams on the L76 and B171 adds about 5 km and, in free flow, about 10 minutes, before any town traffic. From 2027 to 2030 it closes for about a month each spring and two months each autumn, after the winter season. Nobody publishes a Saturday or snowfall drive time for this route, so agree the pickup time with the carrier rather than working from a free-flow figure.
Road & Border Notes
There is no border: the whole drive is in Tyrol. There is a vignette: the resort states that one is required through the Landeck Tunnel, and none of Austria's four vignette-free sections is on the A12 west of Innsbruck. Austrian winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April. The first 9 km are the descent from the plateau to Ried, and the region says the roads are well cleared as a rule, with chains made compulsory at short notice in heavy snow.
Carrier Tip
Tell the carrier the flight time and let them work back the pickup. Give the village and full address, and say how many ski bags and child seats are coming, because they decide the vehicle. If you are staying in Serfaus and flying in the morning, the underground does not start until 07:45.
