The driver drops you at the one terminal, with nothing to change and nothing to carry across a platform.
The valley road is the part to time. Saturday is when the Zillertal changes over, and the guests leaving and the guests arriving share the B169. Last winter Land Tirol banned non-local through traffic from turning off the B169 onto the side roads on Saturdays, so the traffic stays on the main road. The Brettfalltunnel at the valley mouth has been two-lane again since 23 June 2026.
The public route works in daylight, with two changes. On the planner's timetable for 5 December 2026 it takes about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes: the Zillertalbahn to Jenbach, a main-line train to Innsbruck and bus F to the terminal. The first journey of the day reaches the airport at 07:30 on that Saturday, and at 07:06 on a weekday by an early bus to Jenbach, which rules out any flight that needs you at the terminal earlier.

Zillertalbahn and its steam train
The narrow-gauge Zillertalbahn runs beside the valley road for all 32 km from Mayrhofen to Jenbach, half-hourly every day, and every train is wheelchair-equipped. In summer it runs a steam train too: in 2026 from 2 June to 25 September, Tuesday to Thursday, on a separate fare, since Verbund tickets are not valid on it.
Zillertalbahn →Achenseebahn
Jenbach, where the Zillertal meets the Inn valley, is a station with three track gauges. From it the Achenseebahn has climbed 6.76 km to the Achensee since 1889, and calls itself Europe's oldest steam-operated cog railway. It is a summer ride: its 2026 season ends on 26 September. On a late-afternoon summer flight it is a stop worth asking the driver about.

Mayrhofen's own ski area, Mountopolis, has 142 km of pistes and 61 lifts across the Penken and the Ahorn, and its Harakiri, with a gradient of up to 78 percent, is billed as Austria's steepest slope. In 2026/27 the Penkenbahn and Horbergbahn run to 11 April 2027 and the Ahornbahn to 4 April 2027, weather permitting.

Staying further up? The Tuxer Straße (L 6) runs up the Tux valley past Finkenberg to Hintertux, 18.7 km and about 21 minutes from Mayrhofen. A pickup there is a longer job and a separate quote, so give the carrier the village, not just Zillertal.

Mayrhofen is a market town on the valley floor at 633 m, at the head of the main Zillertal. The pickup is your hotel door, with the ski bags loaded there. The village underground garage has a 2.30 m entry height, which a high-roof minibus will not clear, so a group vehicle collects at the door or waits at the bus park, at €4.00 an hour. Tell the carrier if you are staying in Finkenberg or Hintertux instead.

Innsbruck has one terminal, so there is no terminal to get wrong. The car drops you at the terminal. The airport's base operating hours are 06:30 to 20:00, with an extended window for commercial flights from 06:00 to 23:00. Saturday is the changeover day, in both directions. The airport's slot coordinator fully coordinates Innsbruck on winter Saturdays and Sundays, and last winter's Zillertal driving bans applied on Saturdays alone, from 20 December 2025 to 28 March 2026 plus 6 January 2026. A weekday departure meets a quieter valley road. Snowbombing ends on 10 April 2027, the day before the Penkenbahn closes.
Traffic Patterns
The valley road is the leg to plan for: the B169 carries every departing and arriving guest for the resorts of the Zillertal, and on a Saturday they share it. Last winter Land Tirol banned non-local through traffic from turning off the B169 onto the side roads on Saturdays, at three points along the valley, so there is no side-road shortcut to the motorway. Let the carrier set the pickup. The A12 leg, about 43 km, is rarely the problem.
Road & Border Notes
There is no border: the whole drive is in Tyrol. There is a vignette. The only vignette-free stretch of the A12 is at Kufstein, the other way, so the A12 from Wiesing to the airport needs one. At the prices valid from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026 a car pays €9.60 for one day or €12.80 for ten. The B169 is toll-free. Austrian winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April: cars need winter tyres in wintry conditions, and chains may replace them only on a road fully or almost fully covered in snow or ice.
Carrier Tip
Give the carrier your flight number and departure time, the hotel name, and the bag count including skis. The carrier sets the pickup from the flight, and on a changeover Saturday that pickup is earlier than on a Tuesday. A high-roof minibus cannot use the village garage, so agree where it collects.
