Kitzbühel's old town is a pedestrian zone around the clock
The pedestrian zone in Kitzbühel's historic centre, the Vorderstadt and Hinterstadt, applies 24 hours a day. The town's notice allows vehicles in only for loading, from 06:00 to 10:00, and the city police enforce it. If your hotel is inside the old town, your driver agrees the exact drop-off point with you, and you may walk the last stretch with your bags.

About This Transfer
You get into the car outside Innsbruck's single terminal, and a few minutes later you are on the A 12 heading east down the Inn valley. Innsbruck Airport to Kitzbühel is about 100 km and 1h 25min in free flow. After the airport road come 65.7 km of motorway, as far as the Wörgl Ost exit, then a short stretch of the B 178 and 25 km of the B 170 up the Brixental, through Hopfgarten, Brixen im Thale and Kirchberg, into Kitzbühel. The whole route stays in Austria, so there is no border on the way.
All of that motorway needs a vignette. The A 12 is vignette-free only from the German border to Kufstein Süd, and a car from Innsbruck leaves at Wörgl Ost before it gets there, so the exemption that makes some Munich routes toll-free does not apply here. The Kitzbühel tourist board's own directions take a second routing, staying on the B 178 to St. Johann and turning south: about 110 km and 1h 40min, so roughly 10 km and 12 minutes longer. If a quote looks slow, ask which one it assumes.
The train is a real option, and it starts on a city bus. Bus F runs from the terminal to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, and on the timetable running until 12 December 2026 the journey to Kitzbühel takes about 1h 40 to 2h 20, with one or two changes. Trains from Innsbruck stop at Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm, 354 m from the Hahnenkamm lift, three minutes before the main station, so your ski bags are loaded onto a bus and a train, and often a taxi, before they reach a bed.

Swarovski's crystal museum and gardens sit in Wattens, 20 km from Innsbruck, close to the motorway you are already on. It opens daily from 09:00 to 19:00, with last entry at 18:00. On a midday arrival with a free afternoon, it is the one stop on this road worth planning around rather than passing.

Tyrol's smallest town has 440 residents on about 10 hectares, and it is known as a glass town: vases, jugs and mouth-blown wine glasses in shop after shop. It is a short stop, not a detour, and it breaks up the motorway half of the drive.

Kirchberg is the last village before Kitzbühel, about 10 minutes short of it, and you drive through it on the way in. In Hahnenkamm race week it is the official park-and-ride for arrivals from Innsbruck, with a free shuttle train to the finish area at Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm station. If you stay here instead of in town, give the carrier the Kirchberg address; it is about 1h 20min from the airport.

Kitzbühel has three railway stops, and the one by the lift is not the main station. Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm, on Josef-Herold-Straße, is 354 m by road from the Hahnenkammbahn; the main station is 2.7 km from it. With a KitzSki ticket, the ÖBB trains between St. Johann and Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm, and between Westendorf and Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm, are free in ski clothing from 07:50 to 18:00 every day.

Innsbruck has one passenger terminal and no railway station, so there is no terminal to get wrong. The airport designates no meeting point; your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board, which is how carriers work it. Per the airport's November 2025 parking tariff, the car parks allow a free exit within 10 minutes, too short to meet a flight and wait for ski bags, so the driver parks and walks in.

The route has two halves. The first is 65.7 km of the A 12 from Innsbruck to Wörgl Ost. After that the B 170 is a single valley road through Hopfgarten, Brixen im Thale and Kirchberg, and the only alternative is the longer B 178 round by St. Johann. In race week Kitzbühel closes streets on published hours; in 2026 those included Josef-Herold-Straße by the Hahnenkamm station.
Road & Border Notes
There is no border: every kilometre is in Tyrol, so there is no passport check. There is a vignette for the whole 65.7 km of A 12, because the exempt stretch ends at Kufstein Süd, which this route never reaches. The Brixental is a valley climb with no pass. Winter equipment law runs from 1 November to 15 April: a car needs winter tyres on all four wheels whenever the road is wintry, or chains on at least two drive wheels, but chains are allowed only when the road is continuously or almost continuously covered in snow or ice. A coach must have winter tyres fitted from 1 November to 15 March whatever the weather.
Carrier Tip
Name the drop-off point, not just the hotel. For an old-town hotel, agree the exact point with the driver; for the lift it is Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm, not the main station. In Hahnenkamm race week, Josef-Herold-Straße by that station was closed in 2026 on Friday and Saturday from 13:00 to 20:00 and Sunday from 14:00 to 16:00, so a morning pickup there is easy and an afternoon one is not.
