No railway reaches Laax
The nearest station is Chur, about 30 minutes below the resort by road. By public transport the trip from Zurich Airport is a train to Zürich HB, a second train to Chur and a PostBus up, 2h 15min to 2h 26min to the Laax lift base on the December 2026 timetable. A private car is the only option that goes from arrivals to your door without a change.
Tell your carrier whether you are staying in Flims, Laax or Falera. The road from Reichenau reaches Flims first, and the three villages have separate base stations.
About This Transfer
You walk out of arrivals at Zurich Airport, the ski bags go into the back once, and the next stop is your hotel in Laax. The car takes the Zurich bypass onto the A3, runs along the Walensee, joins the A13 at Sargans and follows it past Chur. At exit 18, Reichenau, it leaves the motorway and climbs about 14 km of main road through Flims to Laax.
Flims Laax Falera Tourism puts the drive at 1 hour 45 minutes from Zurich, but that is from the city, not the airport. A routing query from the airport to the Laax lift base gives 1h 53min over about 152 km, and the resort puts the climb from the Reichenau exit at about 20 minutes. Plan on 1h 50min in normal traffic and more when it snows on the last stretch.
There is no border on this route. It stays in Switzerland from the airport to the resort, so there is no customs stop and no passport check. The Swiss motorway vignette, CHF 40 a year, covers every motorway kilometre, and nothing else on the road charges a toll.
The public alternative is a real one, but slow with skis. Laax has no station: the train from the airport changes at Zürich HB for Chur, and a PostBus climbs from Chur in under 40 minutes. Quinten, on the Walensee
The motorway runs along the Walensee, and across the water, on a promontory under the Churfirsten, sits Quinten, a village with no road: it is reached on foot from Weesen or Walenstadt or by boat, and the boat from Murg runs all year. The climate is mild enough for figs and kiwis. From the car it is a view across the water, and a reason to come back.

Chur calls itself Switzerland's oldest city, and it is where the rail passengers on this route change onto the bus. For a transfer passenger it is the city the motorway passes about 30 minutes before Laax. On the way back to the airport with an evening flight, an hour in the old town is an easy stop to build into the booking.

About 9,500 years ago the Flims landslide buried the valley of the Anterior Rhine under rock, and the river has since cut a 13 km gorge through it. Its Romansh name, Ruinaulta, means high pile of rubble. The Il Spir platform above it is a 2-hour round trip on foot from Flims Waldhaus past the Caumasee, which makes it a first afternoon in summer rather than a stop on the way in.

This is why you are making the drive. The area has 216 km of slopes, 30 lifts and 5 snowparks, with 70% of the skiing above 2,000 m, and the resort describes its halfpipe as the longest continuous halfpipe in the world. The long run from La Siala down to Flims is 13 km with about 1,700 m of vertical. Lift tickets are priced dynamically in the resort's shop, with no list price.

Zurich Airport has two arrival halls, Arrival 1 and Arrival 2, and which one you walk out into depends on your flight. Your driver waits there after baggage reclaim with a name board, and the carrier confirms the hall in its offer. Give the flight number so the carrier can track the landing.

Flims Laax Falera is three villages with three base stations, and the road from Reichenau reaches Flims first, then Laax. The Laax lift base is at Murschetg, where the rocksresort stands and where a day in the car park costs CHF 32.80 for 24 hours. A transfer skips the parking and drops at the hotel or chalet you name.

Best Travel Times
A late arrival is where the car pays for itself. The resort's own shuttle ran on weekends only, with one departure from the airport at 13:00. On a weekday in December 2026 the last useful train and bus connection leaves the airport at 22:15 and reaches the Laax lift base at 00:40, and the next one arrives at 05:45. Weekend nights run a little later, to 02:49, with a change at every stage.
Traffic Patterns
Most of the drive is motorway: the A3 along the Walensee and the A13 to Reichenau. The part that changes in winter is the 20 minutes after exit 18, the climb through Flims to Laax, where fresh snow can slow the car and chains can become compulsory where signed. Everything before the exit is the same road whatever the weather.
Road & Border Notes
No border at all: the route never leaves Switzerland. The Swiss motorway vignette is CHF 40 and applies on the A3 and A13; the 2027 vignette is valid from 1 December 2026 to 31 January 2028. Driving without one costs a CHF 200 fine plus the vignette. No other toll applies on this route. Switzerland has no legal winter tyre obligation, but a badly equipped driver can be held liable after an accident, and chains become compulsory where a sign says so.

Say which village. Flims, Laax and Falera share one ski area but not one address, and the drop at Laax Murschetg is not the drop at Flims Waldhaus. Declare skis, boards and boot bags when you book, because they decide the vehicle. And if you land late in the evening, say so: on a weekday the last useful public connection leaves the airport at 22:15, and the next one arrives at 05:45.
