One road in, and it can close
In winter the Flexen Pass road from Langen am Arlberg is normally the only road into Zürs and Lech: the road from Warth is generally closed for the season because of avalanche risk. The resort's tourist office describes the Flexen road as generally open all year round, and the avalanche commission closes it when it has to. A carrier who works this route watches the road report and times the pickup to it.
Give the carrier your flight number and the name of the hotel. If you are staying in Oberlech, say so: it is car-free from December to April and the drop is at the Oberlech cable car in Lech.
About This Transfer
You walk out of arrivals at Zurich Airport, the ski bags go into the back once, and the next time anybody lifts them is outside your hotel in Zürs or Lech. The car takes the Swiss A1 east past Winterthur and St. Gallen, drops to the Rhine, crosses into Austria between Diepoldsau and Hohenems, and follows the A14 up the Rhine valley and the Walgau to Bludenz. From there the S16 expressway climbs the Klostertal to Langen am Arlberg, and the last 14 km is mountain road: through Stuben, into the Flexen gallery, over the pass and down into Zürs, with Lech about 5 km beyond.
From the airport to the centre of Lech is about 194 km and 2h 25min in free-flowing traffic, and Zürs, which comes first, is about 189 km and 2h 20min. Lech Zürs Tourismus publishes 190 km and 2h 15min to 2h 30min for the drive. About 173 km of it is motorway or expressway.
One figure that circulates for this drive does not belong to it: the Arlberg road tunnel toll, €13.00 a trip in 2026. The tolled section of the S16 lies between the Langen and St. Anton junctions, and a car bound for Zürs or Lech leaves the expressway at Langen, before the tunnel. The road charges on this route are two vignettes, the Swiss one at CHF 40 and the Austrian one, and nothing else.
Zurich is not the nearest airport. Ski Arlberg lists St. Gallen-Altenrhein at 100 km and Innsbruck at 120 km, against 190 to 200 km for Zurich. Zurich's case is its flights: the airport was connected directly to 213 cities in 2025. Our table of every Alpine ski resort by nearest airport sets the airports side by side, and our ski transfers guide for 2026/27 covers what equipment and group size do to a quote.
- ✓ Swiss A1, the border at Hohenems, S16 to Langen, then the Flexen Pass
- ✓ Swiss and Austrian vignettes normally held by the carrier
- ✓ Drop at your door in Zürs or Lech, with skis loaded once
Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.
The Abbey of St Gall
About an hour from the airport the motorway passes St. Gallen, whose abbey district is a UNESCO World Heritage site. UNESCO calls it a perfect example of a great Carolingian monastery and its library one of the richest and oldest in the world. On a return leg with an evening flight it is the stop worth building into the booking.
UNESCO World Heritage Centre →Schattenburg, Feldkirch
Hugo I of Montfort, who founded Feldkirch, built the Schattenburg around 1200, and it is still the town's landmark. Today it is a museum with 18 rooms, in a town the A14 passes. It marks the point where the drive leaves the Rhine valley and turns east toward the Arlberg.
Schattenburg Museum →The Flexen road and its gallery
The first section of the Flexen road opened on 11 October 1897, a track three metres wide. Widening began in 1936 and more galleries were added in the 1950s. From Stuben the road enters the gallery, cut into the side of the mountain, crosses the pass and drops to Zürs.
Stuben am Arlberg →Lech Zürs and the White Ring
This is why you are making the drive. Ski Arlberg counts 301 km of slopes and 85 lifts and cable cars and calls itself Austria's largest ski resort. The White Ring, a circuit of about 22 km, has linked Lech, Zürs, Zug and Oberlech for over 60 years.
Ski Arlberg →Route Overview
Pickup: Zurich Airport (ZRH)
Zurich Airport has two arrival halls, Arrival 1 and Arrival 2, and which one you walk out into depends on your flight. Your driver waits there after baggage reclaim with a name board, and the carrier confirms the hall in its offer. Give the flight number so the carrier can track the landing.
Popular Pickup Points:
- • Meet and greet in Arrival 1 or Arrival 2 with a name board
- • Flight monitoring, so a late landing does not lose you the car
- • Zurich city hotel pickups on the same route
- • Any landing time, on any day of the week
Drop-off: Zürs, Lech and Oberlech, Vorarlberg
Zürs comes first on the road down from the Flexen Pass and Lech is about 5 km and 6 minutes further, at 1,450 m. A transfer drops at the hotel or chalet you name in either village. Oberlech is the exception: it is car-free from December to April and reached by cable car from Lech, so the drop is at the cable car station and the timing is agreed with the carrier.
Popular Drop-off Points:
- • Zürs hotels and chalets
- • Lech hotels, apartments and chalets
- • Oberlech cable car in Lech, for Oberlech guests
- • Zug and the other parts of Lech, by address
Local Route Knowledge
Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.
Best Travel Times
The car earns its fare on any arrival that is not early afternoon. The scheduled airport coach runs once a day from Monday to Thursday, at 13:00, so a 14:00 landing on a Tuesday has missed the day's coach. Fridays and Sundays have a last coach at 19:00 and Saturdays at 21:00. A private transfer leaves when your bags come off the belt.
Traffic Patterns
About 173 km of the 194 km is motorway or expressway, and it behaves like one. The parts that change are the border, where about 3 km of ordinary road joins the two motorways, and the last 14 km from Langen, about 17 minutes in clear conditions and longer behind a plough. No authority publishes a delay figure for either, so ask the carrier for a pickup time, not a guess.
Road & Border Notes
Switzerland and Austria are both in the Schengen area, so there is no routine passport check between Diepoldsau and Hohenems, but it is a customs border: carry your passport. Two vignettes apply, the Swiss one at CHF 40 and the Austrian one, €12.80 for 10 days on the 2026 tariff, with the 2027 price not yet published. From 1 November to 15 April Austria requires winter tyres in wintry conditions, and chains can be made compulsory for a time on the Flexen road.
Carrier Tip
Ask the carrier what happens if the Flexen road closes. With the Warth road generally closed in winter there is normally no second road, so the honest answer is a retimed pickup, not a detour: on Saturday 21 February 2026 an avalanche shut the road for about 50 minutes, and the avalanche commission closed it again from 17:00 until the next morning. A carrier who follows the road report can time the drive ahead of a forecast closure. Declare ski bags and boot bags when you book, because they decide the vehicle.

Price & Vehicle Options
A private transfer from Zurich Airport to Lech Zürs starts from around €455 one way. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so a saloon for three works out at about €152 each and a minivan for eight at €80 each. Declare skis, snowboards and boot bags when you book, because a saloon that seats three does not take three ski bags.

| 1-3 | 2-3 bags | from €455 | Couples and solo travellers, soft luggage | |
| 1-4 | 4 bags | from €510 | A pair of ski bags, or a boot bag each | |

| 8-16 | group | from €870 | Club trips and whole-chalet parties |
Prices are per vehicle, one way and indicative, and the carrier confirms them before you pay. They move with the calendar: a Saturday in February costs more than a Tuesday in March. TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace, so you compare real quotes from carriers who want the job, not a published tariff.

Winter (Dec-Mar)
Peak DemandThe Ski Arlberg season is planned from 2 December 2026, and the scheduled airport coach runs from 30 November 2026. This is when the Flexen road is normally the only road in and when chains can be made compulsory on it. - Warth road generally closed in winter

- St. Gallen and Feldkirch as stops
- No winter tyre rule after 15 April
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
Low DemandThe quiet weeks before the lifts open. The Austrian winter tyre rule starts on 1 November, a month before the season, and the first snow on the Flexen Pass does not wait for the calendar. The scheduled coach has not started yet.

Important Information
Meeting your driver at Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport has two arrival halls, Arrival 1 and Arrival 2. Your driver waits in the hall your flight lands at, after baggage reclaim, with a name board, and the carrier confirms which one in its offer. Give the flight number when you book so the carrier can track the landing and adjust the pickup.
Vignettes, and the toll you do not pay
The route needs the Swiss motorway vignette, CHF 40, and an Austrian vignette for the A14 and the S16. The Arlberg road tunnel has a separate toll, €13.00 a trip in 2026, but its tolled section lies between Langen and St. Anton, and a car for Zürs or Lech leaves the expressway at Langen, so the toll does not apply. On a private transfer the carrier normally holds both vignettes and neither should appear on your quote.
The border
The car crosses from Switzerland into Austria between Diepoldsau and Hohenems, on about 3 km of ordinary road between the two motorways. Both countries are in the Schengen area, so there is no routine passport check, but it is a customs border and officers can stop a vehicle. Everyone in the car should carry a passport.
The Flexen road in winter
The tourist office describes the Flexen Pass road as generally open all year round and the main access route in winter. The road from Warth is generally closed in winter because of avalanche risk, so there is normally no second way in. When the avalanche commission closes the Flexen road, a transfer waits or is retimed. Winter tyres are compulsory in wintry conditions from 1 November to 15 April, with at least 4 mm of tread, and chains can be made compulsory for a time.
Zürs, Lech or Oberlech
Zürs is the first village after the pass and Lech is about 5 km further. Oberlech, above Lech, is car-free from December to April: the car stops at the Oberlech cable car in Lech and the lift carries you up. If you land late, check the cable car's running times with your hotel. Give the carrier the hotel name and the village, not just Lech.
Skis, boards and luggage
Declare ski bags, board bags and boot bags when you book, not at the kerb. They decide the vehicle: a saloon carrying three passengers will not also carry three hard ski cases. On this route the difference between an estate and a minivan is usually the equipment, not the number of people.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are available on request from carriers on this route. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type. Ask when you request offers, not after you accept one.
Waiting time and a delayed flight
Carriers on TransferBnB monitor the inbound flight and adjust the pickup, so a delayed landing does not cost you the car. Free waiting time after landing varies by carrier and is stated in the offer you accept.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a transfer from Zurich Airport to Lech Zürs take?
About 2 hours 25 minutes to Lech in free-flowing traffic, and about 2h 20min to Zürs, which is the first of the two villages. The resort's tourist office publishes 2h 15min to 2h 30min. The route is the Swiss A1 past St. Gallen, the border at Hohenems, the A14 to Bludenz, the S16 to Langen am Arlberg and the Flexen Pass road. Allow more when it is snowing on the last 14 km.
How far is Lech from Zurich Airport by road?
About 194 km to the centre of Lech and about 189 km to Zürs. Lech Zürs Tourismus gives 190 km and Ski Arlberg 200 km. About 173 km is motorway or expressway, and the last 14 km from Langen am Arlberg is mountain road over the Flexen Pass.
Is there a direct train from Zurich Airport to Lech or Zürs?
No. Neither Lech nor Zürs has a railway station. The nearest is Langen am Arlberg, 15 km away, from where bus line 750 takes about 20 minutes up to Zürs and Lech. Lech Zürs Tourismus gives a rail journey of approximately 3 hours from Zurich Airport, with trains every two hours, so on its figures the trip is about 3h 20min before any wait for the bus. A private transfer takes about 2h 25min with no change and stops at your door.
Do you pay the Arlberg tunnel toll driving from Zurich to Lech?
No. The Arlberg road tunnel toll, €13.00 a trip in 2026, applies between the Langen and St. Anton junctions of the S16. A car going to Zürs or Lech leaves the S16 at Langen am Arlberg, before the tunnel, and takes the Flexen Pass road. What the drive does need is two vignettes, the Swiss one at CHF 40 a year and the Austrian one. On a private transfer the carrier normally holds both.
Is the Flexen Pass road to Zürs and Lech open in winter?
Generally, yes. Lech Zürs Tourismus describes the Flexen Pass road as generally open all year round and the main access route in winter. It is also normally the only winter road, because the road from Warth is generally closed for avalanche risk. The avalanche commission closes the Flexen road when it has to: on 21 February 2026 it was shut from 17:00 until the next morning. Austria requires winter tyres in wintry conditions from 1 November to 15 April, and chains can be made compulsory for a time.
Is there a shuttle bus from Zurich Airport to Lech and Zürs?
Yes, a scheduled coach runs in winter, from 30 November 2026 to 11 April 2027. It costs €65 per person one way. Online booking closes 24 hours before departure; later than that is by phone, on request. From Monday to Thursday there is one coach a day, leaving the airport at 13:00 and reaching Lech at 15:45; Fridays have two, Saturdays five and Sundays three. It stops at one point in each village. For any other landing time, or a drop at the door, a private transfer is the option.
Which airport is closest to Lech Zürs?
By distance, St. Gallen-Altenrhein: Ski Arlberg lists it at 100 km from Lech Zürs, ahead of Innsbruck at 120 km and Friedrichshafen at 130 km. Lech Zürs Tourismus, which does not list Altenrhein, names Innsbruck as the nearest. Zurich is 190 km on its table, about 70 km further than Innsbruck, and its case is the size of its network: the airport was connected directly to 213 cities in 2025. From Zurich Airport a private transfer reaches Lech in about 2h 25min.
What does a private transfer from Zurich Airport to Lech Zürs cost?
On TransferBnB, carrier offers start from around €455 for a saloon carrying 1 to 3 passengers, rising to around €510 for an estate, €640 for a minivan seating 5 to 8, and €870 for a minibus. Prices are per vehicle, not per person, so a minivan for eight is €80 each, and they are indicative until a carrier confirms the quote. The carrier normally holds the Swiss and Austrian vignettes.
Can a transfer drive to a hotel in Oberlech?
Not in winter. Oberlech is car-free from December to April and is reached by the Oberlech cable car from Lech. A private transfer from Zurich Airport takes you to the cable car station in Lech. Tell the carrier you are staying in Oberlech when you book, and for a late landing check the cable car's running times with your hotel.
When does the 2026/27 ski season run in Lech Zürs?
Ski Arlberg plans the season from Wednesday 2 December 2026 to Sunday 18 April 2027, with both dates subject to conditions. The area has 301 km of slopes and 85 lifts and cable cars, and Lech Zürs is the home of the White Ring, a circuit of about 22 km. Zurich Airport is about 194 km and 2h 25min away by private transfer.

What our customers say
Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
Thomas B. — London, UK Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
Marta R. — Munich, Germany Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
Olivier D. — Lyon, France Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
