The Alpine ski resorts closest to an airport are around Innsbruck. Seefeld is about 22 km and 26 minutes from Innsbruck Airport, and Mayrhofen, Sölden and St Anton are all within about 1h20. From Geneva Airport, Chamonix is the quickest big resort at about 88 km and 1h15. Most resorts sit between one and two and a half hours from their nearest airport, and the high Tarentaise runs to three.
This guide lists the nearest airport for 65 ski resorts in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy, with road distance, drive time and the next-best airport for each, taken from the resorts' own arrival pages wherever they publish a figure. It is the full table behind our complete guide to ski transfers in Europe, which covers booking, prices and the gateway airports in more depth.

Which ski resorts in the Alps are closest to an airport?
Innsbruck wins, and it is not close.
Innsbruck Airport sits on the floor of the Inn valley with the mountains on both sides, so the city's own Nordkette ski area is about 4 km and 10 to 15 minutes away, Seefeld is 26 minutes, and the Stubai valley entrance is ten minutes by the valley's own figure. Every other gateway in the Alps is on a plain or a lake shore, and its nearest resorts start at about an hour.
| Resort | Airport | Distance | Drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Innsbruck (Nordkette) | Innsbruck | ~4 km | 10 to 15 min |
| Seefeld | Innsbruck | ~22 km | ~26 min |
| Val Gardena | Bolzano | 43 km | 49 min |
| Flaine | Geneva | 70 km | 1h00 |
| St Johann in Tirol | Salzburg | ca. 60 km | ca. 1h |
| Mayrhofen | Innsbruck | ~75 km | ~1h05 |
| Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis | Innsbruck | ~89 km | ~1h10 |
| Kirchberg and Westendorf | Innsbruck | 85 km | ~1h10 |
| Obertauern | Salzburg | ~90 km | ~1h10 |
| Sölden | Innsbruck | 83 km | 1h15 |
| Chamonix | Geneva | ~88 km | ~1h15 |
| Morzine | Geneva | 75 km | about 1h15 |
| Engelberg | Zurich | 101 km | 1h15 |
Read the drive column, not the distance column. Innsbruck to Kirchberg is 85 km and about 1h10 on the motorway, while Salzburg to Kitzbühel is 81 km and about 1h30 over smaller roads, so the shorter distance is the slower trip.
Two resorts sit inside an hour of Geneva that the table cannot rank on time. La Clusaz is 50 km from Geneva Airport by the resort's own page, and Megève is 90 km and about 1h15. Neither beats Innsbruck to Seefeld.
The circulating shortlists get a few of these wrong. Engelberg appears on one widely read list at 45 minutes from Zurich; the resort puts it at 101 km and 1h15 by car. Kitzbühel is often listed at an hour from Innsbruck, which is about 25 minutes short.
What is the nearest airport to each Austrian and German resort?
Innsbruck for Tyrol, Salzburg for the east, Munich for the SkiWelt.
Austria has three gateways and they split the country cleanly. Innsbruck serves the Ötztal, the Zillertal, the Arlberg and the Paznaun. Salzburg serves the Pinzgau around Zell am See, the Gastein valley and the Pongau. Munich Airport is further out than either, but it is the nearest airport with a published figure for the Wilder Kaiser resorts, and it is the largest of the three.
| Resort | Nearest airport | Distance and drive | Next option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seefeld | Innsbruck | ~22 km, ~26 min | Munich, ~130 km, ~1h45 |
| Stubai Glacier | Innsbruck | 10 min to the valley entrance | Munich |
| Mayrhofen | Innsbruck | ~75 km, ~1h05 | Munich, ~157 km, ~1h45 |
| Hintertux | Innsbruck | ~85 km, ~1h25 | Munich, ~176 km, ~2h20 |
| Sölden | Innsbruck | 83 km, 1h15 | Munich, 231 km, 3h15 |
| Obergurgl | Innsbruck | ~94 km, ~1h20 | Munich, ~240 km, ~3h |
| Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis | Innsbruck | ~89 km, ~1h10 | Munich, 219 km |
| St Anton am Arlberg | Innsbruck | ~100 km, ~1h20 | Zurich, ~200 km, ~2h |
| Lech-Zürs | Innsbruck | ~120 km, ~1h45 | Zurich, 190 km, 2h15 to 2h30 |
| Ischgl | Innsbruck | ~100 km, ~1h30 | Munich, ~200 km, ~2h15 |
| Kitzbühel | Salzburg | 81 km, ~1h30 | Innsbruck, ~100 km, ~1h25 |
| Kirchberg in Tirol | Innsbruck | 85 km, ~1h10 | Munich, ~169 km, ~1h55 |
| Westendorf | Innsbruck | 85 km, ~1h10 | Munich, ~160 km, ~1h50 |
| Söll | Munich | ~146 km, ~1h35 | Innsbruck or Salzburg, ca. 80 km |
| Ellmau | Munich | ~151 km, ~1h40 | Innsbruck or Salzburg, ca. 80 km |
| St Johann in Tirol | Salzburg | ca. 60 km, ca. 1h | Munich, ~163 km, ~1h55 |
| Fieberbrunn | Salzburg | ~63 km, ~1h15 | Munich, ~172 km, ~2h05 |
| Leogang | Munich | ~190 km, ~2h25 | Salzburg |
| Saalbach-Hinterglemm | Salzburg | ~90 km, ~1h30 | Munich, 220 km, ~2h20 |
| Zell am See | Salzburg | ~85 km, ~1h to 1h15 | Munich, ~195 km, 1h50 to 2h20 |
| Kaprun | Salzburg | ~100 km, ~1h25 | Munich, ~200 km, ~2h30 |
| Bad Gastein | Salzburg | ~97 km, ~1h20 | Munich |
| Obertauern | Salzburg | ~90 km, ~1h10 | Munich, ~262 km, ~2h45 |
| Flachau | Salzburg | ~70 km | Munich, 185 km, ~2h15 |
| Schladming | Salzburg | approx. 90 km, about 1h30 | Graz, approx. 180 km |
| Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) | Munich | ~125 km, ~1h20 to 1h30 | Innsbruck, 62 km |
| Oberstdorf (Germany) | Memmingen | no official figure | Munich |
Read the Next option column before you book a flight. Most Tyrol resorts have Munich as their fallback, usually 30 minutes to two hours further by road, from a much larger airport.
St Anton is about 100 km and 1h20 from Innsbruck, not the hour some lists print, and Zurich is a real alternative at about 200 km and two hours. The St Anton airport guide compares all three airports in detail.
Kitzbühel is the Austrian resort where the nearest airport and the fastest airport are different ones. Salzburg is nearer at 81 km, Innsbruck is about five minutes quicker at 1h25, and Munich is the largest of the three. The Munich to Kitzbühel comparison covers the train and the drive side by side.
The SkiWelt resorts (Söll, Ellmau, Westendorf) are about 80 km from both Innsbruck and Salzburg by the ski area's own figure, but most visitors arrive through Munich. The full Bavarian picture is in ski resorts near Munich Airport.
Germany's two big resorts split. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is about 1h20 to 1h30 from Munich, and Innsbruck is actually nearer at 62 km. Oberstdorf's nearest airport is Memmingen, which publishes no reliable distance, so we are not going to print one.
For the Austrian airport choice as a decision rather than a table, read which airport for the Austrian Alps.
What is the nearest airport to each Swiss resort?
Zurich for the east, Geneva for Valais, and Bern for the Jungfrau.
Switzerland splits along the language border. Zurich Airport is the gateway to central Switzerland and Graubünden, Geneva Airport to Valais and the Vaud Alps. The Bernese Oberland is the odd one out: Bern airport is only 69 km from Wengen and Grindelwald, and Zurich and Basel are the larger alternatives at about two hours.
| Resort | Nearest airport | Distance and drive | Next option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engelberg | Zurich | 101 km, 1h15 | Bern, 157 km, 1h53 |
| Andermatt | Zurich | 124 km, 1h32 | Milan Malpensa, 185 km, 2h09 |
| Laax | Zurich | ~152 km, ~1h50 | Friedrichshafen, 146 km, 1h47 |
| Davos-Klosters | Zurich | ~150 km, ~2h | Friedrichshafen, 152 km |
| Arosa-Lenzerheide | Zurich | 173 km, 2h10 | Friedrichshafen, 153 km, 2h07 |
| St Moritz | Zurich | ~215 km, ~3h | Milan Malpensa, 186 km, 2h45 |
| Wengen | Bern | 69 km, 1h03 to Lauterbrunnen | Zurich, 194 km, 2h05 |
| Grindelwald | Bern | 69 km, 1h03 | Zurich, 194 km, 2h05 |
| Villars | Geneva | 120 km, 1h29 | Bern, 123 km, 1h40 |
| Verbier | Geneva | 171 km, ~1h50 | Zurich, ~280 km, ~3h15 |
| Crans-Montana | Geneva | 181 km, about 2h30 to the resort | Zurich, 303 km, 3h17 |
| Zermatt | Geneva | ~220 km to Täsch, ~3h with the shuttle train | Zurich, ~245 km |
| Saas-Fee | Geneva | 226 km, 2h38 | Bern, 122 km, 2h29 |
The table shows why Valais is a long transfer from anywhere. Verbier, Crans-Montana, Zermatt and Saas-Fee all sit at the end of the Rhône valley road, and none is under 1h50 from any airport.
Zermatt is car-free, so the drive ends at Täsch, 6 km below the village, and the last stretch is a 12-minute shuttle train. Wengen works the same way: the road ends at Lauterbrunnen.
Engelberg is the quickest big Swiss resort from Zurich Airport at 101 km and about 1h15, and Andermatt is next at 1h32. Graubünden takes longer than its distance suggests, because the last hour is mountain road; St Moritz is about three hours from Zurich on our route page.
What is the nearest airport to each French resort?
Geneva for the north, Chambéry for the Three Valleys, Grenoble for the Oisans.
The French Alps have more airports within reach than any other part of the range, and the nearest one is often a small airport that most visitors never fly into. Geneva is nearest for Haute-Savoie. Chambéry is nearest for the Tarentaise. Grenoble is nearest for Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes.
| Resort | Nearest airport | Distance and drive | Next option |
|---|---|---|---|
| La Clusaz | Geneva | 50 km | Annecy, 34 km (small airport) |
| Flaine | Geneva | 70 km, 1h00 | Lyon, about 2h |
| Morzine | Geneva | 75 km, about 1h15 | Bern, 137 km, 1h53 |
| Avoriaz and Les Gets | Geneva | 79 km, 1h42 | Bern, 137 km, 1h53 |
| Chamonix | Geneva | ~88 km, ~1h15 | Lyon, about 2h30 |
| Megève | Geneva | 90 km, about 1h15 | Chambéry, about 1h30 |
| Courchevel | Chambéry | 95 km, 1h15 | Geneva, 179 km, 2h00 |
| Méribel | Chambéry | no official figure | Geneva, ~180 km, ~2h30 |
| Val Thorens | Chambéry | 122 km | Geneva, 201 km |
| Les Arcs | Chambéry | 127 km, 1h37 | Geneva, ~200 km, ~2h30 |
| La Plagne | Grenoble | 192 km, 2h17 | Lyon 196 km, 2h18; Geneva 197 km, 2h22 |
| Tignes | Grenoble | 217 km, 2h41 | Geneva, 222 km, ~3h |
| Val d'Isère | Grenoble | 217 km, 2h41 | Geneva, ~225 km, ~3h to 3h30 |
| Alpe d'Huez | Grenoble | 107 km, 1h36 | Lyon, 154 km, 2h00 |
| Les Deux Alpes | Grenoble | 111 km, 1h37 | Lyon, 158 km, 2h02 |
Read the table from the top and the transfers get steadily longer as you go south and higher. Haute-Savoie is an hour from Geneva. The Tarentaise is two to three hours from every airport, whichever one you pick.

How far is Val Thorens from Geneva Airport?
201 km, by Val Thorens' own arrival page.
Figures of 145 to 160 km circulate widely for this trip, and they are short by about 40 km. The same page puts Chambéry at 122 km, Grenoble at 194 km and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry at 199 km, so Geneva is the furthest of the four. The last 37 km is the climb from Moûtiers up the D117.
Geneva is still where most people land, because it has the flights. A French Alps transfer guide covers the Geneva corridors with prices per vehicle.
What is the nearest airport to Courchevel?
Chambéry, at 95 km and 1h15, by Courchevel's own figures.
The same page puts Geneva at 179 km and 2h00 and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry at 176 km and 2h00. Chambéry saves you three quarters of an hour on the road, if a flight lands there on the day you travel.
What is the nearest airport to each Italian resort?
Bolzano for the Dolomites, Turin for the west, Treviso for Cortina.
Italy's ski airports are mostly small ones. Bolzano is the nearest airport to three of the big Dolomite resorts, Turin serves the Via Lattea and Cervinia, and Cortina d'Ampezzo is marginally nearer Treviso than Venice.
| Resort | Nearest airport | Distance and drive | Next option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Val Gardena | Bolzano | 43 km, 49 min | Innsbruck, 115 km, 1h21 |
| Alta Badia | Bolzano | 74 km, 1h24 | Innsbruck, 133 km, 1h44 |
| Madonna di Campiglio | Bolzano | 107 km, 1h39 | Verona, 176 km, 2h10 |
| Cortina d'Ampezzo | Treviso | 138 km, 1h53 | Venice Marco Polo, 149 km, 1h57 |
| Sestriere | Turin | 106 km, 1h29 | Milan Malpensa, about 217 km |
| Cervinia | Turin | 120 km, 1h34 | Milan Malpensa, 182 km, 2h08 |
| Courmayeur | Geneva | 112 km, about 1h30 via the Mont Blanc tunnel | Turin, 150 km |
| Livigno | Bolzano | 139 km, 2h34 | Innsbruck 182 km, 2h52; Zurich 234 km, 3h12 |
| Bormio | Bolzano | 126 km, 2h31 | Bergamo 152 km, 2h54; Malpensa 217 km, 3h01 |
The Next option column matters more in Italy than anywhere else in the Alps. Bolzano is the nearest airport to Val Gardena, but Innsbruck is only half an hour further and has far more ways in.
Courmayeur is the one Italian resort whose nearest airport is in Switzerland: Geneva, about 1h30 away through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Cortina d'Ampezzo is 138 km from Treviso and 149 km from Venice Marco Polo, four minutes apart on the road, so fly into whichever one has your flight.
Is the nearest airport the best one to fly into?
Often not.
The airport nearest a resort is frequently a small regional airport, and a short transfer is worth nothing if no flight from your home city lands there. Four resorts in this table show the trade most clearly:
- Courchevel and the Three Valleys: Chambéry is nearest at 95 km, but it is a winter Saturday charter airport whose opening hours on Saturdays follow the flight schedule, and it is not on the public transport network. Most visitors fly to Geneva and accept a 2h00 drive.
- Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes: Grenoble is nearest, and it too is a small winter Saturday charter airport with no railway station. Lyon adds about 25 minutes and runs all week.
- Kitzbühel: Salzburg is nearest by distance, Innsbruck is marginally quicker by road, and Munich Airport, at about 1h55, is where most flights are.
- Val Gardena: Bolzano is 43 km away. Check which flights actually land there on your dates before choosing it over Innsbruck.
The practical rule is simple: choose the flight first, then read the drive time from that airport in the tables above. The Innsbruck airport guide and the Geneva airport guide cover the two busiest ski gateways end to end.
Which resorts are furthest from any airport?
Val d'Isère, Tignes, Livigno and Bormio.
These four have no airport under 2h30. Val d'Isère and Tignes sit at the head of the Tarentaise, 217 to 225 km from Grenoble, Lyon and Geneva alike, which is why the choice of airport barely changes the transfer. Livigno and Bormio sit in a high corner of Lombardy near the Swiss border, and the nearest airport to both is Bolzano, about 2h30 away.
St Moritz joins them from Zurich at about three hours, although Milan Malpensa and Bergamo are both closer, at 2h45 and 2h37.
On a long transfer the vehicle matters more than the airport.
Three hours in a minivan with the skis already loaded is a different trip from three hours of train, bus and a final taxi with a ski bag at every change.
How much longer does the transfer take on a Saturday?
Allow 30 to 50 percent more on a winter Saturday morning.
That is the range route planners that time winter Saturdays publish for morning pickups, and it follows from the Saturday changeover: French package weeks start and end on Saturday, so every guest arriving and every guest leaving uses the same valley road on the same day.

France publishes the worst days in advance. The national Bison Futé calendar marks Saturday 26 December 2026 red for departures and Saturday 2 January 2027 red in both directions, and in February 2026 every Saturday was orange or red for departures in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes zone.
A 1h15 transfer from Geneva to Chamonix on a Tuesday can run past 1h45 on a February Saturday. A three-hour run to Val d'Isère can pass four.
Salzburg Airport moves transfer vehicles off the forecourt on winter charter Saturdays, so a driver meeting you there parks in P8. Geneva does not allow pick-ups in its Kiss and Fly area, so your driver meets you inside Arrivals. Both add a few minutes before the drive even starts.
Which resorts can you reach by train instead?
Just over a third of the resorts in this guide have a station.
Twenty-four of the 65 resorts in these tables have a railway station in or at the resort: St Anton, Kitzbühel, Mayrhofen, Seefeld, Zell am See, Bad Gastein, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Zermatt, Wengen, Grindelwald, Engelberg, Davos, St Moritz and Chamonix among them. The rest end on a road.
The catch is the first leg. Apart from the weekend Verbier Express from Geneva Airport to Le Châble, below Verbier, no train leaves Munich, Salzburg, Innsbruck or Geneva airport for a ski resort without a change, and the Tarentaise is the clearest case: Val Thorens has no station, Moûtiers is 37 km below it, and the fastest rail journey from Geneva Cornavin to Moûtiers takes just under four hours before the bus up the D117.
A train works for two people with carry-on bags heading to a resort on the main line. For a family of four with skis, the transfer from the nearest airport is usually the faster trip and often the cheaper one per head.
How much does the transfer cost?
From €55 to €520 per vehicle, one way, on our live routes.
| Route | From, per vehicle | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Innsbruck Airport to Seefeld | from €55 | ~26 min |
| Innsbruck Airport to Mayrhofen | from €125 | ~1h05 |
| Geneva Airport to Chamonix | from €150 | ~1h15 |
| Salzburg Airport to Zell am See | from €150 | ~1h to 1h15 |
| Innsbruck Airport to St Anton | from €190 | ~1h20 |
| Geneva Airport to Courchevel | from €225 | ~2h15 |
| Geneva Airport to Val d'Isère | from €260 | ~3h to 3h30 |
| Zurich Airport to St Moritz | from €520 | ~3h |
Read the price against the drive, then divide by your group. Innsbruck to St Anton at €190 is under €50 each for four people, and the vehicle takes the skis and drops you at the door.
Prices are indicative starting prices for the smallest vehicle; the final price comes from carrier offers on your date. For more corridors, see real 2026 prices for 50 routes.
Book the transfer from your nearest airport
TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace: you post the trip, verified carriers who want the job send offers, and you choose. The price is per vehicle and fixed before you pay, and the driver tracks your flight.
Pick the resort, then the airport your flight actually lands at, and use the route page from the tables above. For a resort with no route page yet, start at our ski resort transfers page and post the trip; carriers quote on any Alpine pair. Whether you land in Innsbruck with a family of five or in Geneva with two snowboards, the vehicle is sized to the group before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which ski resorts in the Alps are closest to an airport?
The resorts around Innsbruck. Innsbruck's own Nordkette ski area is about 4 km and 10 to 15 minutes from Innsbruck Airport, and Seefeld is about 22 km and 26 minutes. Mayrhofen is about 1h05 away and Sölden 1h15. Outside Austria, Val Gardena is 49 minutes from Bolzano, and from Geneva Airport, Flaine is about 1h00 and Chamonix about 1h15.
How far is Val Thorens from Geneva Airport?
201 km, according to Val Thorens' own arrival page, not the 145 to 160 km that is widely quoted. The nearest airport to Val Thorens is Chambéry at 122 km, then Grenoble at 194 km and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry at 199 km. The last 37 km is the climb from Moûtiers on the D117. Geneva is the furthest airport but has the most flights, and a private transfer takes you to the door without a change.
What is the nearest airport to Courchevel?
Chambéry, 95 km and about 1h15 by Courchevel's own figures. Geneva is 179 km and about 2h00, and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry is 176 km and 2h00. Chambéry is a winter Saturday charter airport with limited flights, so most visitors fly to Geneva and accept the longer drive.
Is the nearest airport always the best one to fly into?
No. The nearest airport is often a small regional one with few flights: Chambéry for the Three Valleys, Grenoble for Alpe d'Huez, Bolzano for Val Gardena. Choose the flight first, then check the drive from that airport. Geneva, Munich, Zurich, Innsbruck and Salzburg are the main gateways, and a private transfer from any of them runs straight to the resort.
How long is the transfer from Innsbruck Airport to St Anton?
About 100 km and 1h20 by road, not the hour that some lists give. Zurich Airport is the alternative at about 200 km and two hours, and Munich Airport is 2h45 to 3h20. A private transfer from Innsbruck to St Anton starts from €190 per vehicle, which is under €50 each for four people with skis.
Which Alpine ski resorts are furthest from an airport?
Val d'Isère, Tignes, Livigno and Bormio. None is under 2h30 from any airport: Val d'Isère and Tignes are 217 to 225 km from Grenoble, Lyon and Geneva, and Livigno and Bormio are about 2h30 from Bolzano, the nearest of their airports. On transfers that long, a private vehicle with the skis loaded once saves more time than the choice of airport does.
How much longer does a ski transfer take on a Saturday?
Allow 30 to 50 percent more for a winter Saturday morning pickup. Saturday is changeover day in much of the Alps, so arrivals and departures share the same valley roads. France's national traffic calendar marks 26 December 2026 and 2 January 2027 red. A driver who tracks your flight and knows the valley still gets you there faster than a timetable does.
Can you get to an Alpine ski resort by train from the airport?
Rarely without a change. Resorts such as St Anton, Kitzbühel, Zermatt and Chamonix have stations, but apart from a winter weekend train from Geneva Airport to Le Châble below Verbier, no train goes from Munich, Innsbruck, Salzburg or Geneva airport to a ski resort directly. The Tarentaise has no resort station at all: from Geneva the fastest rail journey to Moûtiers is just under four hours, then a bus. A transfer from the nearest airport is usually faster and, for four people, often cheaper per head.
