Westendorf station is outside the village
The railway station sits just outside Westendorf. The SkiWelt calls it about a 10 minute walk from the village and the Kitzbüheler Alpen tourist board around 20 minutes. The tourist board also says the public bus stops directly at the station, but the ski bus is thinner: in the 2025/26 winter timetable it left the station stop for the gondola at 09:30 and 10:35, plus an 08:07 Early Bird run on Fridays and Saturdays from mid-February. The evening rail journeys in the planner end at the station itself. A transfer skips the station and stops at your door.
The 2026/27 ski bus timetable is not published yet. Confirm the station times locally before you plan around them.
About This Transfer
You get into the car at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, and within minutes you are on the A 92 heading south. Munich Airport to Westendorf is about 160 km and 1h 50min in free flow. Almost all of it is motorway: the A 99 round the east of Munich, the A 8 past the Chiemsee, the A 93 down the Inn valley and over the border at Kiefersfelden, then 16.4 km of the Austrian A 12 to the Wörgl Ost exit. The last stretch is 4.3 km of the B 178 and 9.7 km of the B 170 Brixentaler Straße through Hopfgarten, and the driver stops at your hotel rather than at a station outside the village.
That exit decides the toll. On this corridor the only vignette-free motorway is the A 12 from the border to Kufstein Süd, and Wörgl Ost is about 11 km past that junction, so the fastest route needs an Austrian vignette. The SkiWelt names both exits for Westendorf: Wörgl Ost, or Kufstein Süd toll-free. Routed, the toll-free way leaves the motorway at Kufstein Süd and follows the B 178, L 206 and B 170 through Söll, Itter and Hopfgarten, about 159 km and 1h 55min, five minutes slower. Ask which one your carrier's quote assumes.
Westendorf is on a railway line, and the station sits outside the village, 10 to 20 minutes on foot depending on whose figure you read. On the timetable running to 12 December 2026, the fastest afternoon journey from the airport takes 2 hours 24 minutes with two changes, and the next departure takes 3 hours 04 with three. Two adults with soft bags will manage it. A family with ski bags landing in the evening is looking at the 19:44 from the airport, arriving at the station at 22:43.

Chiemsee and Herrenchiemsee
Around the halfway point, the A 8 runs along the Chiemsee. Ludwig II's palace stands on the Herreninsel, and you reach it by boat from the lakeshore a few kilometres off the motorway. On a summer transfer with time to spare, it is the one stop on the Bavarian side worth breaking the journey for. Agree waiting time with your carrier before you book.

The first Austrian landmark on the drive, on its own rock above the Inn. On the fastest routing the car stays on the motorway past it to Wörgl, so the fortress is a planned stop rather than something you pass at the kerb. It opens daily from 09:00 to 18:00, last entry 17:00, and at noon the Heldenorgel plays: 4,948 pipes, built in 1924.
Festung Kufstein →Hopfgarten and its lift-side station
The B 170 passes through Hopfgarten on the way in, the SkiWelt village before Westendorf. The SkiWelt describes the Hopfgarten Berglift halt as directly at the lift entrance, and its combined rail and ski-pass ticket is sold to that halt. Useful to know if you are comparing villages; for a Westendorf booking it is a place you drive through.

Westendorf's gondola starts in the village centre, at Bergliftstraße 18, and climbs to the Talkaser plateau. In winter this is your way into the SkiWelt. From May to October the lifts run for walkers, and the top is home to Alpinolino, a family trail with animal tracks and what the lift company calls Tyrol's longest marble run. That is the reason a summer transfer here is for families, not just hikers.

Ki-West has run since 2005 and gives Westendorf a direct connection to Kirchberg and the KitzSki area. In 2026/27 it runs daily from 08:45 and closes at 15:45 until 29 January 2027, then at 16:15 until 29 March. The cheap way across is the €36.00 adult day supplement on a 2 to 14 day SkiWelt pass, bought on the days you actually go.

Munich has two terminals, with the Munich Airport Center between them, and your carrier needs to know your terminal as well as your flight number. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. The airport allows up to 10 minutes free at the kerb, twice per calendar day, and from the third entry it charges from the first minute. For longer waits it points drivers to P20 and the P1, P3 and P4 underground car parks. So a driver meeting a delayed flight parks and walks in rather than circling the kerb.

Westendorf has no car-free zone, so the car reaches the hotels, the chalets and the lift. The Alpenrosenbahn valley station is at Bergliftstraße 18, in the village centre. The railway station is the address to avoid: it sits outside the village, 10 minutes on foot by the SkiWelt's figure and around 20 by the tourist board's. Give your carrier your accommodation's street address rather than just 'Westendorf', particularly if you are staying up the Windau side valley.

Best Travel Times
Saturdays in the SkiWelt season, 5 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, are the busy days on this corridor. Three dated periods sit inside that: the Dutch Kerstvakantie, 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027; Hahnenkamm week in Kitzbühel, 18 to 24 January 2027; and the Dutch spring holiday, which is split, with the south off from 13 to 21 February 2027 and the north and centre from 20 to 28 February. On a weekday outside those dates, expect something close to the free-flow 1h 50min. Nobody publishes a Saturday drive time for this corridor, so treat any figure you are quoted as a carrier's estimate.
Traffic Patterns
The first delay, when there is one, comes from lorries, and it is a weekday problem. On dates Tyrol announces in advance, it meters lorries over 7.5 t on the southbound A 12 near Kufstein-Nord at a maximum of 250 an hour, and ADAC says the queue often extends back to the A 8. The published dates are weekdays: Mondays to Wednesdays from 21 September to 9 December 2026, Thursday 7 January 2027, and Mondays from 11 January to 15 March 2027. That is before the Kufstein Süd exit, so every SkiWelt transfer shares it. A Westendorf transfer on the fastest routing then stays on the motorway to Wörgl Ost, the exit it shares with Itter, Kelchsau, Hopfgarten and Brixen im Thale.
Road & Border Notes
There is one border, at Kiefersfelden on the motorway. Germany's controls apply on entry into Germany, so they bear on the journey home rather than this one; ADAC reports them planned to run to 15 March 2027. The vignette is where Westendorf differs from its Wilder Kaiser neighbours. On this corridor the vignette-free section ends at Kufstein Süd, and the fastest route continues about 11 km past it to Wörgl Ost. A car or van up to 3.5 t needs a vignette; at 2026 prices, valid from 1 December 2025, that is €9.60 for one day or €12.80 for ten. A vehicle over 3.5 t pays the distance-based lorry toll instead. Winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April. It is stricter for a minibus over 3.5 t, which needs winter tyres for the whole period and must carry chains, than for a car.

Ask which exit the carrier plans to use, because both are legitimate. Wörgl Ost is the fastest routing and needs a vignette. Kufstein Süd is the one the SkiWelt describes as toll-free, and from there the B 178, L 206 and B 170 run through Söll, Itter and Hopfgarten: about 159 km and 1h 55min, five minutes slower. The quote should say which it assumes. Then give the street address, not the village name: Westendorf is spread along the B 170 and up the Windau side valley.
