One lane on the Luegbrücke in winter 2026/27

The Luegbrücke on the Austrian A 13, between Innsbruck and the Brenner, has carried one lane in each direction since 1 January 2025 while a new bridge is built, and ASFINAG plans the first new structure for the end of 2027. A second lane opens on about 180 days a year, and never on a day with snowfall. In ASFINAG's 2026 calendar seven December days, 9 to 12, 15, 16 and 19 December, are marked two lanes towards Italy unless it snows, and the rest of the month is single-lane. Your carrier sets the pickup time around it.

About This Transfer

You get into the car at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 and stay in it until the Dolomites. Munich Airport to Selva di Val Gardena is about 317 km and 3h 50min in free flow: the A 99 round the east of Munich, the A 8 and A 93 to the border at Kiefersfelden, the A 12 up the Inn valley to Innsbruck, the A 13 over the Brenner into Italy, and the A 22 down to the Chiusa exit. From there it is about 28 km of valley road through Ortisei and Santa Cristina to Selva, which German speakers know as Wolkenstein.

The drive carries three separate tolls. At 2026 rates the Austrian vignette, which covers the A 12 only, is €9.60 for one day, the A 13 over the Brenner is a separate section toll of €12.50, and the Italian A 22 from the Brenner barrier to Chiusa is €4.10: €26.20 one way. Most carriers put all three inside the offer.

Munich is not the nearest airport to Val Gardena, and the questions further down set the four within reach side by side. Travellers choose Munich for its flights, and then want the long leg to be one vehicle and one loading.

By train and local bus the same trip takes about six hours and three changes. In the timetables sampled for early December 2026, the 10:44 from the airport reached Bressanone in 4 hours 11 minutes, and a local train and bus put the traveller in Selva at 16:48. The last same-evening connection leaves the airport mid-afternoon.

A private car does it door to door with the skis loaded once. Our ski transfers guide covers booking windows and Saturday changeovers, and the ski resort transfers page explains what equipment and group size do to the offers.

  • ✓ Over the Brenner to the Chiusa exit, three tolls
  • ✓ About 3h 50min door to door in free flow
  • ✓ Drop at your address in Selva, Santa Cristina or Ortisei

Stop requests: Most carriers on this route are happy to make short stops at viewpoints or towns. Mention it when booking or ask your driver directly.
At the motorway exit

Chiusa and Säben Monastery

The car leaves the A 22 at Chiusa, Klausen in German, where the motorway exit is signed for Val Gardena. The town's tourist office lists Säben Monastery among its sights, and from here about 28 km of valley road are left to drive.

Ortisei

Ortisei is the first of the three Val Gardena villages on the road in, before Santa Cristina and Selva. In December it and Selva both hold Christmas markets.

The Sellaronda

Selva sits directly below the Sella massif, and the Sellaronda circuit round it is 44 km, 21 km of it on lifts, over four passes. The tourist board's advice is to be on the circuit by 10 a.m., which is the practical reason to arrive the evening before and not on the morning you want to ski it.

The Saslong

The Saslong is Val Gardena's World Cup course. In 2026 the men's Super-G runs on Friday 18 December and the Downhill on Saturday 19 December, two weeks after the lifts open. If your trip falls on that weekend, book the car early.

Route Overview

Pickup: Munich Airport (MUC)

Munich has two terminals, and your carrier needs your terminal as well as your flight number. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. The airport allows 10 minutes free at the kerb, twice per calendar day, and charges from the third entry, so a driver meeting a delayed flight parks and walks in.

Popular Pickup Points:

  • • Terminal 1 arrivals hall
  • • Terminal 2 arrivals, Level 03
  • • Munich Airport Center between the terminals
  • • Parked car, then out to the kerb when you have your bags

Drop-off: Selva di Val Gardena, South Tyrol

Selva is the last of the three villages on the valley road, after Ortisei and Santa Cristina. The valley has no railway station, so every arrival finishes by road, and the car takes you to the hotel door. Give your carrier the street address and the village, because the three run into one another along the same road.

Popular Drop-off Points:

  • • Hotels and apartments in Selva
  • • Piazza Nives in the village centre
  • • Santa Cristina, on the way in
  • • Ortisei, the first village in the valley

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

Best Travel Times

The lifts in Val Gardena and on the Sellaronda open on 4 December 2026 and are scheduled to run to 4 April 2027. The Saslong World Cup races are on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December 2026. With close to four hours on the road, a morning landing has you in Selva by mid-afternoon, and the Sellaronda, which the tourist board says to start by 10 a.m., is a job for the next day.

Traffic Patterns

Two places decide the day. On dates Tyrol announces in advance it meters lorries on the southbound A 12 at Kufstein-Nord at up to 250 an hour, and ADAC says the queue often reaches back to the A 8; the announced ski-season dates are Wednesday 9 December 2026, Thursday 7 January 2027 and then Mondays from 11 January to 15 March. The second is the Luegbrücke on the A 13, which runs one lane each way as its normal state and gets a second lane on about 180 days a year, though not on days with snowfall.

Road & Border Notes

There are two borders, Kiefersfelden and the Brenner. Austria runs no systematic controls on entry from Germany. Germany controls entry at its border, which matters most on the journey home, though ADAC notes that waits can occur on the way out as well; the controls are planned to run to 15 March 2027. On the Italian A 22 a car must have winter tyres fitted or chains on board from 15 November to 15 April, snow or not. In Austria the rule runs from 1 November to 15 April whenever the road is wintry.

Carrier Tip

Ask whether the offer includes all three tolls, the vignette, the A 13 and the A 22, and say which village you are staying in. If your group needs a minibus, ask the carrier how it plans the Luegbrücke: on two-lane days vehicles over 3.5 t must keep to the left lane.

Price & Vehicle Options

A private transfer from Munich Airport to Selva di Val Gardena starts from around €320 one way. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so two people and four people pay the same base fare. Declare skis, snowboards and boot bags when you book, because they change which vehicle a carrier sends.

VehicleSeatsLuggageFromBest for
Sedan / Saloon1-32-3 bagsfrom €320Couples and solo travellers with soft luggage

Prices are per vehicle, one way and indicative, and the carrier confirms them before you pay. Six people in a minivan from €450 is €75 each. A Saturday in the ski season costs more than a weekday in June. TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace, so you compare real quotes from carriers who want the job, not a published tariff.

  • SpringSkiing 13 March to 4 April 2027
  • Lifts scheduled to close 4 April 2027
  • Winter equipment rules end 15 April

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Medium Demand

In summer the Sellaronda circuit gives way to cyclists and motorcyclists, and the guest pass from your host covers the public buses in the valley, so the car is for the airport leg. The same three tolls apply all year.

  • Sellaronda circuit open to cyclists and motorcyclists
  • Guest pass covers valley buses, not the night bus
  • The same three tolls all year

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

Low Demand

Autumn is quiet until the lifts open on 4 December. The winter rules arrive first: 1 November in Austria, whenever the road is wintry, and 15 November on the A 22, whatever the weather. Lorry metering at Kufstein is announced for 27 October and for 4, 11, 18 and 25 November 2026.

  • Austrian winter tyre period starts 1 November
  • A 22 winter equipment rule starts 15 November
  • Lorry metering on announced Wednesdays in November

Important Information

Meeting Your Driver at Munich Airport

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal with a name board. Confirm the terminal with your carrier as well as the flight number. Terminal 2 arrivals are on Level 03. The kerb lanes at both terminals allow 10 minutes free, twice per calendar day, and charges start from the third entry, so the driver usually parks and comes in to meet you.

The Three Tolls

The drive has three separate tolls, and every figure here is a 2026 rate. The Austrian vignette is needed on the A 12 from Kufstein Süd to Innsbruck: €9.60 for one day or €12.80 for ten at 2026 rates, and from 2027 it exists only in digital form. The A 13 Brenner motorway needs no vignette but charges its own section toll, €12.50 for a car in 2026. The Italian A 22 from the Brenner barrier to the Chiusa Val Gardena exit is €4.10 at the 2026 tariff. Together that is €26.20 one way at 2026 rates. The A 13 and A 22 tolls are paid per trip, and the vignette is bought for a period. Confirm that the offer includes all three.

Skis, Snowboards and Luggage

Declare skis, snowboards and boot bags when you book, not on the day. Pricing is per vehicle, so equipment changes which vehicle the carrier sends and not the price per person. A saloon that seats four does not take four ski bags.

Child Seats

Carriers on this route provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment. Confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.

If Your Flight Is Delayed

Your carrier monitors the flight and moves the pickup to match. By train and local bus a delay can cost the night: in the early December 2026 timetable the last same-evening connection leaves the airport mid-afternoon. Give the carrier your flight number and terminal, and confirm what waiting time is included.

Winter Tyres and Chains

The rules change along the way. In Germany winter tyres are required whenever conditions are wintry, with no fixed dates. On the Italian A 22 a car must have winter tyres fitted or chains on board from 15 November to 15 April, even with no snow. On South Tyrol's other roads winter tyres are required whenever the road is wintry. In Austria the rule runs from 1 November to 15 April in wintry conditions. A booked carrier arrives equipped for all of them.

Which Timetable These Figures Come From

The rail times on this page come from the ÖBB journey planner and the bus times from the South Tyrol public transport planner, both queried on 9 October 2026 for Saturday 5, Sunday 6 and Wednesday 9 December 2026. Check the current timetable before you travel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Munich Airport from Selva di Val Gardena, and how long is the drive?

About 317 km and 3 hours 50 minutes in free-flow traffic, measured to the centre of Selva. The route is the A 99, A 8 and A 93 to the border at Kiefersfelden, the A 12 to Innsbruck, the A 13 over the Brenner, the Italian A 22 to the Chiusa exit, and about 28 km of valley road through Ortisei and Santa Cristina. The Val Gardena tourist board rounds the distance to 300 km. Allow extra for traffic and for the roadworks on the Brenner motorway.

What tolls are there between Munich and Val Gardena, and do I need an Austrian vignette?

Yes, you need a vignette, and it is one of three tolls. At 2026 rates the Austrian vignette, which covers the A 12 from Kufstein Süd to Innsbruck, costs €9.60 for one day or €12.80 for ten; the A 13 Brenner motorway is not covered by it and charges a separate section toll of €12.50 per car; and the Italian A 22 from the Brenner barrier to the Chiusa Val Gardena exit costs €4.10, which makes €26.20 one way. On a private transfer most carriers include all three in the offer.

Which airport is closest to Selva di Val Gardena: Munich, Innsbruck, Bolzano or Verona?

Bolzano, then Innsbruck, then Verona, then Munich. By road, Bolzano Airport is about 50 km and 55 minutes from Selva, Innsbruck Airport about 122 km and 1 hour 45 minutes, Verona Airport about 197 km and 2 hours 35 minutes, and Munich Airport about 317 km and 3 hours 50 minutes. Bolzano Airport operates with the fleet of one airline. Munich is about two hours further than Innsbruck, and travellers use it for its wider choice of flights. A private transfer covers the whole Munich drive in one vehicle.

Is there a direct train from Munich Airport to Val Gardena?

No. Val Gardena has no railway station: the nearest are Ponte Gardena, 18 km away, Chiusa, 23 km, Bressanone, 34 km, and Bolzano, 40 km. Direct trains run from Munich's city stations to Bressanone and Bolzano, but from the airport you change at München Ost first. Buses 350 and 360 link Selva with the railway at Ponte Gardena and Bressanone. In the timetables for 5, 6 and 9 December 2026 the 10:44 from the airport reached Bressanone at 14:55 with one change, and a local train and bus 350 reached Selva at 16:48, about six hours after leaving the airport. A private transfer takes about 3 hours 50 minutes to your door, with no change.

Can I reach Val Gardena by train if my flight lands in Munich in the evening?

No. On the days sampled in early December 2026, the last train from Munich Airport that still reached Selva the same evening left around 15:00: the 14:44 on Sunday 6 December, arriving in Selva at 20:48, and the 15:04 on Saturday 5 and Wednesday 9 December, arriving at 21:18. Each ends with a local bus from Ponte Gardena station. A private transfer leaves when your bags are off the belt and takes about 3 hours 50 minutes to Selva.

Is the Luegbrücke on the Brenner motorway still one lane in winter 2026/27?

Yes, on most days. The Luegbrücke on the Austrian A 13 has carried one lane in each direction as its normal state since 1 January 2025. ASFINAG opens a second lane on about 180 days a year, but not on days with snowfall. Towards Italy, its 2026 calendar marks seven December days, 9 to 12, 15, 16 and 19 December, as two lanes unless it snows; the 2027 calendar was not published as of October 2026. The first new bridge structure is planned for the end of 2027 and the whole project for the end of 2030. The route from Munich Airport to Val Gardena crosses it.

Do I need winter tyres or snow chains to drive from Munich to Val Gardena?

Yes, in practice from November to mid-April. Germany requires winter tyres whenever conditions are wintry. The Italian A 22 requires winter tyres fitted or chains on board from 15 November to 15 April, even when there is no snow. On South Tyrol's other roads, including the road up Val Gardena, winter tyres are required whenever conditions are wintry. Austria requires winter tyres from 1 November to 15 April in wintry conditions on the A 12 and A 13. A booked carrier arrives equipped for all of them.

When does the 2026/27 ski season run in Val Gardena?

The lifts in Val Gardena and on the Sellaronda open on 4 December 2026 and are scheduled to run until 4 April 2027. The men's World Cup races on the Saslong are the Super-G on Friday 18 December and the Downhill on Saturday 19 December 2026. Val Gardena SpringSkiing runs from 13 March to 4 April 2027. The valley is part of Dolomiti Superski, 1,200 km of slopes on one pass.

Is Selva di Val Gardena the same place as Wolkenstein?

Yes. The village has three names: Selva di Val Gardena in Italian, Wolkenstein in German and Sëlva in Ladin. It is the last of the three Val Gardena villages on the valley road, after Ortisei and Santa Cristina, directly below the Sella massif. Give a carrier the street address and any one of the names, and the booking is the same.

How much does a Munich Airport to Selva di Val Gardena transfer cost?

From around €320 for a saloon, one way. An estate starts from €360, a minivan from €450 and a minibus from €610. Those prices are per vehicle, not per person, so six people in a minivan pay €75 each. Tolls on the route come to €26.20 one way at 2026 rates, and most carriers include them. TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace: you post the trip with your flight, passenger count and ski bags, and verified carriers send offers you compare before you pay. A Saturday in the ski season costs more than a weekday in June.

Why Book This Route?

  • • One vehicle from the terminal to your door in Selva, about 3h 50min with no change of train or bus
  • • All three tolls, the vignette, the A 13 and the A 22, agreed in the offer and not paid one by one on the road
  • • A private transfer makes a late landing workable: in the early December 2026 timetable the last train and bus connection to Selva left the airport mid-afternoon
  • • Per-vehicle pricing from around €320 for the whole car, with ski bags and child seats agreed in the offer
  • • Verified carriers compete for the job, and you see the offers, the vehicle and the confirmed total before you pay

What our customers say

  • Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
    Thomas B. — London, UK
  • Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
    Marta R. — Munich, Germany
  • Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
    Olivier D. — Lyon, France
  • Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
    Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland
  • Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
    Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
    Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria
