About This Transfer
Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, loads the bags once, and joins the A 92 outside the airport. Munich Airport to Alpbach is about 170 km and 1h 55min in free flow: the A 99 round the east of Munich, the A 8 to the Inntal junction, the A 93 to the border at Kiefersfelden, and the Austrian A 12 up the Inn valley to the Kramsach exit. From there it is about 11 km through Brixlegg and up the valley road, and the car stops at your door.
The catch is the vignette. The Wilder Kaiser villages leave the motorway at Kufstein Süd, where the vignette-free section ends; Alpbach keeps the car on the A 12 for about 26 km more, so this drive needs one.
No railway reaches Alpbach. By train and bus the journey takes more than 3 hours with three changes, and the last same-night connection leaves the airport in the late afternoon, because the last bus up from Brixlegg station goes early in the evening.
A flight that lands after about 17:00 has missed it.
Innsbruck is the nearer airport, and the questions below give both distances. Munich's side of the trade is its network: the airport lists 232 destinations in 72 countries. For the same comparison across the Alps, see our nearest airport for every Alpine ski resort table. The ski resorts near Munich Airport guide covers the neighbouring valleys, and the ski resort transfers page explains what equipment and group size do to the offers.

Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.
Kufstein Fortress
The fortress stands above the Inn at Kufstein, where the motorway enters Austria. A stop means leaving the A 12 and rejoining it. In winter, 3 November 2026 to 20 March 2027, it opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00 with last admission at 16:00, so it suits a midday landing better than an evening one.
Festung Kufstein →Rattenberg
Austria's smallest town sits by the Inn where the car leaves the motorway: 500 people on just under eleven hectares, known for its glass workshops. On the Advent weekends from 20 November to 20 December 2026 the town is lit by candles and torches. It is about 12 km and about 15 minutes from Alpbach, so it also works as an afternoon out during the stay.
Rattenberg →Alpbach village
Alpbach carries the title of Austria's Most Beautiful Village for its uniform wooden architecture. That is by design: since 1953 the building rules have required every new house to follow the traditional Alpbach style. The road you arrive on has existed only since 1926.
Alpbach →Wiedersberger Horn and the Ski Juwel
The Wiedersbergerhornbahn valley station is 2.2 km from the village centre, and the ski bus from the village takes about 5 minutes. Above it, beside the Hornbahn 2000 at 2,030 m, stands the Top of Alpbachtal, a 13-metre viewing tower. The lift is part of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau: 114 km of pistes across four mountains and two valleys, a figure for the whole linked area and not for Alpbach alone.

Pickup: Munich Airport (MUC)
Munich has two terminals, and your carrier needs your terminal as well as your flight number. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. The airport allows 10 minutes free at the kerb, twice per calendar day, and charges from the third entry, so a driver meeting a delayed flight parks and walks in.
Popular Pickup Points:
- • Terminal 1 arrivals hall
- • Terminal 2 arrivals, Level 03
- • Munich Airport Center between the terminals
- • Parked car, then out to the kerb when you have your bags
Drop-off: Alpbach, Alpbachtal, Tyrol
Alpbach sits at the top of its valley road with the lifts outside the centre: the Wiedersbergerhornbahn valley station is 2.2 km from the village centre and the Pöglbahn in Inneralpbach about 4 km. Give your carrier the street address and say which end of the valley you are staying in.
Popular Drop-off Points:
- • Hotels and guesthouses in Alpbach village
- • Congress Centrum Alpbach
- • Inneralpbach, by the Pöglbahn
- • Wiedersbergerhornbahn valley station

Best Travel Times
A daytime landing gives you a choice of how to travel. An evening one does not: the last same-night connection by train and bus leaves the airport in the late afternoon. Inside the season the dated busy periods are the Dutch Kerstvakantie, 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, and the Dutch spring holidays, 13 to 21 February in the south and 20 to 28 February 2027 in the north and centre. Peak-season lift pass prices run from 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027.
Traffic Patterns
The first delay, when there is one, is lorries. On dates Tyrol announces in advance it meters lorries on the southbound A 12 at Kufstein-Nord at a maximum of 250 an hour, and ADAC says the queue often reaches back to the A 8. The announced ski-season dates are Wednesday 9 December 2026, Thursday 7 January 2027 and then every Monday from 11 January to 15 March 2027. The metering point comes before the Kramsach exit, so it touches this route.
Road & Border Notes
There is one border, on the motorway at Kiefersfelden. Germany's border controls are on entry into Germany, so they bear mostly on the journey home, though ADAC notes waits on the way out at some crossings too; it reports the controls planned to run to 15 March 2027. The vignette-free section of the A 12 ends at Kufstein Süd and this route continues for about 26 km to Kramsach, so the car needs a vignette. Winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April for cars in wintry conditions; a coach must have winter tyres fitted from 1 November to 15 March whatever the weather.
Carrier Tip
Give the carrier the street address and say whether you are in the village or in Inneralpbach, about 4 km further up by the Pöglbahn. Ask the carrier to confirm that the vignette is in the quote. If your arrival falls on one of the announced lorry-metering days, tell your host that a later arrival is possible.

Price & Vehicle Options
A private transfer from Munich Airport to Alpbach starts from around €190 one way. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so two people and four people pay the same base fare. Declare skis, snowboards and boot bags when you book, because they change which vehicle a carrier sends.
| Vehicle | Seats | Luggage | From | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-3 | 2-3 bags | from €190 | Couples and solo travellers with soft luggage | |
| 1-4 | 4 bags | from €215 | A pair of ski bags, or a boot bag each | |
| 5-8 | 8 bags | from €270 | Families and groups with equipment | |
| 8-16 | group | from €365 | Ski clubs, conference groups and whole-chalet parties |
Prices are per vehicle, one way and indicative, and the carrier confirms them before you pay. They move with the calendar: a Saturday in the Ski Juwel peak season, 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027, costs more than a Tuesday in June. TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace, so you compare real quotes from carriers who want the job, not a published tariff.
When to Travel This Route
Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.
Winter (Dec-Mar)
Peak DemandThe lifts above Alpbach, the Wiedersbergerhornbahn and the Pöglbahn, plan to open on 4 December 2026 and run to 4 April 2027, subject to change. The gondola that links the Alpbachtal side to the Wildschönau starts in mid-December 2026, so until then the two valleys ski separately. Peak season runs from 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027. Book the transfer when you book the flight.
- Lifts above Alpbach open 4 December 2026
- Dutch Kerstvakantie, 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027
- Peak season to 12 March 2027
Spring (Apr-May)
Low DemandThe Late Season runs from 13 March to the planned close on 4 April 2027, and from 13 March 2027 children up to 15 ski free when a parent buys a pass of 3 days or more. Winter tyre law still applies to 15 April, and a carrier will have them fitted.
- Late Season 13 March to 4 April 2027
- Planned season close 4 April 2027
- Winter tyre period ends 15 April
Summer (Jun-Aug)
Medium DemandThe European Forum Alpbach runs from 23 August to 3 September 2027, with its Conference Days opening on 29 August. If you are coming for it, book the transfer with the flight. Once you are there, the Alpbachtal Card your host hands over at check-in makes the valley's buses free, so the airport leg is the one the car is for.
- European Forum Alpbach, 23 August to 3 September 2027
- Conference Days open 29 August 2027
- Valley buses free with the Alpbachtal Card
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
Low DemandAutumn is quiet until the lifts open. Austrian winter tyre law starts on 1 November and applies whenever the road is wintry, so a transfer for the opening weekend goes with a carrier that already has winter tyres fitted. Rattenberg's Advent weekends begin on 20 November 2026.
- Winter tyre period starts 1 November
- Rattenberg Advent weekends, 20 November to 20 December 2026
- Lifts above Alpbach open 4 December 2026

Important Information
Meeting Your Driver at Munich Airport
Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal with a name board. Confirm the terminal with your carrier as well as the flight number. Terminal 2 arrivals are on Level 03. The kerb lanes at both terminals allow 10 minutes free, twice per calendar day, and charges start from the third entry, so the driver usually parks and comes in to meet you.
Tolls and the Austrian Vignette
This route needs an Austrian vignette. The A 12 is vignette-free only from the border to Kufstein Süd, and the drive to Alpbach stays on it for about 26 km more, to the Kramsach exit. At 2026 rates, valid from 1 December 2025, a vignette for a car costs €9.60 for 1 day or €12.80 for 10 days, and from 2027 only the digital vignette will exist. Ask your carrier to confirm it is in the quote. A toll-free way round exists, the B 171 from the Kufstein Süd exit, and it is roughly 10 to 15 minutes slower in free flow.
Skis, Snowboards and Luggage
Declare skis, snowboards and boot bags when you book, not on the day. Pricing is per vehicle, so equipment changes which vehicle the carrier sends rather than the price per person. A saloon does not take a ski bag for every seat.
Child Seats
Carriers on this route provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment. Confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.
If Your Flight Is Delayed
Your carrier monitors the flight and moves the pickup to match. By public transport a delay costs more: miss the last same-night connection in the late afternoon and the next arrival is the following morning. Give the carrier your flight number and terminal, and confirm what waiting time is included.
Winter Roads and Tyres
Austrian winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April. A car up to 3.5 t needs winter tyres in wintry conditions, marked M+S, M.S. or M&S or with the snowflake symbol. A coach must have winter tyres fitted from 1 November to 15 March regardless of the weather, and lorries over 3.5 t and buses must carry snow chains from 1 November to 15 April. The last 9 km climb the valley on the L 5, a road that has existed only since 1926.
Which Timetable These Figures Come From
The train and bus times on this page come from the ÖBB journey planner, queried on 9 October 2026 for Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026, the weekend the lifts above Alpbach open. Check the current timetable before you travel.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Munich Airport from Alpbach, and how long is the drive?
About 170 km and 1 hour 55 minutes in free-flow traffic, routed on OpenStreetMap data from the airport to the village centre. The route is the A 92, A 9, A 99, A 8 and A 93 to the border at Kiefersfelden, the Austrian A 12 to the Kramsach exit, then about 11 km through Brixlegg and up the valley. The figure of 120 km and 80 minutes that circulates for Munich Airport is the distance from the city of Munich to the Alpbach valley; the airport to the village is about 50 km and 35 minutes more. Allow extra for traffic and the season.
Do I need an Austrian vignette to drive from Munich Airport to Alpbach?
Yes, on the fastest route. The A 12 Inntal motorway is vignette-free only from the German border to the Kufstein Süd junction, and the route to Alpbach stays on the motorway for about 26 km beyond it, to the Kramsach exit. At 2026 rates a vignette for a car costs €9.60 for 1 day or €12.80 for 10 days. The toll-free way round is the B 171 from the Kufstein Süd exit, roughly 10 to 15 minutes slower in free flow. With a private transfer, ask the carrier to confirm the vignette is in the quote.
Which airport is closest to Alpbach: Innsbruck, Munich or Salzburg?
Innsbruck, by a clear margin. Routed on OpenStreetMap data to the village centre, Innsbruck Airport is 59 km and about 55 minutes from Alpbach, Salzburg Airport 143 km and about 1 hour 40 minutes, and Munich Airport about 170 km and 1 hour 55 minutes. Munich is about 110 km and about an hour further than Innsbruck. Munich Airport lists 232 destinations in 72 countries. A private transfer covers any of the three to your door.
Is there a direct train or public bus from Munich Airport to Alpbach?
No. No railway reaches Alpbach, and no scheduled public bus runs through from the airport. The nearest stations are Jenbach, Wörgl and Brixlegg, and the last leg is a regional bus from Brixlegg station that takes 21 minutes. On the ÖBB planner, every sampled journey from Munich Airport to Alpbach has at least 3 changes. A private transfer makes the trip in one vehicle, about 1 hour 55 minutes to your door.
How long does Munich Airport to Alpbach take by train and bus?
From 3 hours 15 minutes, with three changes. Queried on the ÖBB planner for Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026, departures from Munich Airport every two hours from 07:04 each reach Alpbach 3 hours 15 minutes later, the 13:04 at 16:19. Guests with a reservation confirmation ride the regional bus from the station free. A private transfer takes about 1 hour 55 minutes and does not change.
Can I get from Munich Airport to Alpbach by public transport in the evening?
Not after late afternoon. On the ÖBB timetable for 5 and 6 December 2026, the 17:04 from Munich Airport is the last departure that reaches Alpbach the same night, arriving at 20:19, because the last bus from Brixlegg station leaves at 19:58. On the Saturday the 19:44 from the airport arrives at 07:19 the next morning, and on the Sunday nothing later than the 17:04 arrives before Monday. A private transfer leaves when your bags are off the belt, whatever the hour.
When does the 2026/27 ski season run in Alpbach?
The two lifts above Alpbach, the Wiedersbergerhornbahn and the Pöglbahn, plan to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, subject to change. Lift pass prices follow three periods: Pre-Season from 4 to 18 December 2026, Peak Season from 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027, and Late Season from 13 March to 4 April 2027.
Is Alpbach linked by lift to the Wildschönau?
Yes, once the connecting gondola is running. Alpbach is part of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau, 114 km of pistes across four mountains and two valleys, and a connecting gondola joins the Alpbachtal side to the Wildschönau side. For winter 2026/27 that gondola is planned to start in mid-December 2026, after the lifts above Alpbach open on 4 December, so in the first days of the season the two valleys ski separately.
Do I need winter tyres for the drive to Alpbach?
Austrian law requires winter tyres from 1 November to 15 April whenever the road is wintry, for cars up to 3.5 t, marked M+S, M.S. or M&S or with the snowflake symbol. A coach must have winter tyres fitted from 1 November to 15 March regardless of the weather, and lorries over 3.5 t and buses must carry chains from 1 November to 15 April. A booked carrier is already compliant. The route is motorway to Kramsach, then about 11 km of valley road through Brixlegg.
How much does a Munich Airport to Alpbach transfer cost?
From around €190 for a saloon, one way. An estate starts from €215, a minivan from €270 and a minibus from €365. Those prices are per vehicle, not per person, so four people in a minivan pay under €70 each. TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace: you post the trip with your flight, passenger count and ski bags, and verified carriers send offers you compare before you pay. A Saturday in peak season costs more than a weekday in June.

What our customers say
Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
Thomas B. — London, UK Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
Marta R. — Munich, Germany Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
Olivier D. — Lyon, France Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria
