The first train reaches the terminal at 07:55
The earliest rail journey from Westendorf to Munich Airport leaves Westendorf station at 04:58 and arrives at 07:55, with three changes. That was the same on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the SkiWelt's opening weekend, on the timetable running to 12 December 2026. The first two-change journey leaves at 06:50 and arrives at 09:15. The station is outside the village, 10 to 20 minutes on foot, so a 04:58 departure starts before dawn. A booked car collects you at the door when your flight requires.
Rail aggregators list a 04:31 first departure. The ÖBB planner does not show one on those dates.
About This Transfer
The car pulls up at your chalet in Westendorf, the ski bags go in the back, and within a few minutes you are on the B 170 down the Brixental towards Hopfgarten. Westendorf to Munich Airport is about 160 km and 1h 50min in free flow: 9.7 km of the B 170 and 4 km of the B 178 to the Wörgl Ost junction, 16.4 km of the Austrian A 12 to the border at Kiefersfelden, then the A 93 down the Inn valley, the A 8 past the Chiemsee, the A 99 round Munich and the A 92 to the departures kerb. You load once, at your door, and unload once, at your terminal.
The border is on this leg, not the other one. Germany's controls apply on entry into Germany, ADAC names Kiefersfelden among the crossings from Austria most affected, and ADAC reports the controls planned to run to 15 March 2027. That is why the 1h 50min is a routed free-flow figure and not a promise, and why a departure is timed with a margin that the arrival does not need.
The rail alternative works, with limits at both ends of the day. Westendorf station sits outside the village, and on the timetable running to 12 December 2026 the quickest journeys to the airport take 2 hours 25 minutes with two changes, the 06:50 arriving at 09:15 and the 10:50 at 13:15. For an early flight the choice is the 04:58 arriving at 07:55 or the 05:58 arriving at 08:57, both with three changes. Munich Airport's own advice is to add about 50% to the check-in time your airline recommends, so check that window against those arrival times before relying on a train.
The arrival direction of this route, with meeting your driver at Munich Airport, is on our Munich Airport to Westendorf page. ✓ About 1h 50min in free flow, plus a border margin
✓ Collected at your door, not from a station outside the village
✓ Timed backwards from your flight, not from a timetable
Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance — you enjoy the scenery.
The Alpenrosenbahn
Westendorf's gondola runs from the village centre at Bergliftstraße 18 up to the Talkaser plateau. With an afternoon flight, a last run is realistic: have your bags packed, give the carrier the hotel address and a pickup time, and ski the morning. Between 12 February and 29 March 2027, Westendorf and Brixen open for Early Bird skiing at 07:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, so a Saturday departure can start with first tracks.
SkiWelt Westendorf →Ki-West, and the deadline on a last Kitzbühel day
Ki-West links Westendorf to Kirchberg and the KitzSki area, with a €36.00 adult day supplement on a 2 to 14 day SkiWelt pass. On your last full day, the closing time is the thing to know. The gondola runs from 08:45 and closes at 15:45 until 29 January 2027, then at 16:15 until 29 March 2027. Miss it on the Kirchberg side and you are going back to Westendorf by road, the evening before a flight.
SkiWelt →Kufstein Fortress
Kufstein Fortress is the last Austrian landmark before the border, on its rock above the Inn. It opens daily from 09:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:00. With an evening flight and the morning free, it makes a stop on the way north rather than a view from the car. Agree the waiting time with your carrier before you book, because on this leg the border comes straight after it.
Festung Kufstein →Route Overview
Pickup: Westendorf, Brixental, Tyrol
Your carrier collects you at your accommodation, not at the station. Westendorf station is outside the village: the SkiWelt puts it at about a 10 minute walk and the tourist board at around 20. Westendorf is spread along the B 170 and up the Windau side valley, so give the street address and a pickup time the carrier has worked back from your flight, not just the village name. If your chalet is up a side road, say so in the booking notes.
Popular Pickup Points:
Drop-off: Munich Airport (MUC), departures
Tell the carrier your terminal, not just the airport. Munich has two terminals, with the Munich Airport Center between them, and a drop at the wrong one is a long walk with ski bags. At Terminal 2 the departure lane is on Level 4. The airport allows up to 10 minutes free at the kerb, twice per calendar day, which is plenty for a drop-off. The airport's own advice is to add about 50% to the check-in time your airline recommends.

Best Travel Times
Saturdays in the SkiWelt season are the heavy departure days. Several dated periods end inside the season: the Dutch Kerstvakantie on 3 January 2027, Hahnenkamm week in Kitzbühel on 24 January 2027, and the two Dutch spring holidays on 21 February (south) and 28 February (north and centre). On a weekday outside those dates the drive runs close to 1h 50min. Nobody publishes a Saturday drive time for this corridor, so treat any figure you are quoted as a carrier's estimate.
Traffic Patterns
The delay on this leg is at the border. Germany controls traffic entering the country, and ADAC's update of 3 September 2026 names Kiefersfelden on the A 93 among the crossings from Austria most affected, with the controls planned to run to 15 March 2027. Before the border, Westendorf, Itter, Kelchsau, Hopfgarten and Brixen im Thale share the same Wörgl Ost junction on the fastest routing.
Road & Border Notes
Two things happen between Wörgl Ost and Kiefersfelden. The first is the toll. On this corridor the vignette-free section runs from Kufstein Süd to the border, and Wörgl Ost is about 11 km before it, so on the fastest route a car or van up to 3.5 t needs a vignette: at 2026 prices, valid from 1 December 2025, €9.60 for one day or €12.80 for ten. The SkiWelt names Kufstein Süd as a toll-free junction for Westendorf, and routed northbound through Hopfgarten and Söll that way is about 158 km and 1h 55min. The second is the border, where Germany checks traffic entering the country. Austrian winter tyre law runs from 1 November to 15 April, and it is stricter for a minibus over 3.5 t than for a car.
Carrier Tip
Give the carrier your flight time, not a pickup time you have guessed. Munich Airport publishes no hours-before-departure figure of its own, only its advice to add about 50% to the airline's check-in recommendation, so the pickup is built from three parts: that check-in window, the routed 1h 50min, and a margin for the Kiefersfelden checkpoint. Ask the carrier to state which junction they will use, Wörgl Ost or the toll-free Kufstein Süd, since the difference is about five minutes. And if you are skiing Kitzbühel on your last day, remember that Ki-West closes at 15:45 until 29 January 2027.

Price & Vehicle Options
A private transfer from Westendorf to Munich Airport starts from around €190 one way. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so two people and four people pay the same base fare. Luggage matters more on the way home than on the way out: ski bags, boot bags and whatever you bought in Kitzbühel all have to fit, so declare them when you book.
| Vehicle | Seats | Luggage | From | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan / Saloon | 1-3 | 2-3 bags | from €190 | Couples and solo travellers with soft luggage |
| Estate / Comfort | 1-4 | 4 bags | from €220 | A pair of ski bags, or a boot bag each |
| Minivan / Van | 5-8 | 8 bags | from €280 | Families and chalet groups with equipment |
| Minibus | 8-16 | group | from €415 | Whole-chalet parties on a Saturday changeover |
Prices are per vehicle, one way and indicative, and the carrier confirms them before you pay. A Saturday in the SkiWelt Premium season, 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027, costs more than a weekday in June. TransferBnB is a request-for-offers marketplace, so you compare real quotes from carriers who want the job.

Winter (Dec-Mar)
Peak DemandThe SkiWelt runs from 5 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, and Saturdays are the heavy departure days. The dated periods to watch end on 3 January (Dutch Christmas holiday), 24 January (Hahnenkamm week in Kitzbühel), and 21 and 28 February (the two Dutch spring holidays). German border controls are planned to run to 15 March 2027, which covers all of them. Book the departure when you book the arrival.
- Dutch Kerstvakantie ends 3 January 2027
- Hahnenkamm Races end 24 January 2027
- Border controls planned to 15 March 2027
Spring (Apr-May)
Low DemandThe SkiWelt closes on 29 March 2027, and the Early Bird mornings at Westendorf and Brixen run right up to that date, so a final Saturday can start at 07:30 on the piste and end at the airport. After that the valley is quiet until the summer lifts reopen in May. Austrian winter tyre law runs until 15 April and applies whenever the road is wintry, so snow in early April is still a winter-tyre drive.
- Early Bird skiing to 29 March 2027
- SkiWelt closes 29 March 2027
- Winter tyre period ends 15 April
Summer (Jun-Aug)
Medium DemandFrom May to October Westendorf's lifts run for walkers and families. German border controls are planned to run to 15 March 2027, so check the current position before a summer trip. With an afternoon flight, there is time for a last morning on the Alpenrosenbahn before the car collects you.
- Summer lifts run May to October
- Check the border-control position before you travel
- Kufstein Fortress open daily 09:00 to 18:00
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
Low DemandAutumn is the quietest time to leave Westendorf. The summer lifts close in October and nothing reopens until 5 December. Austrian winter tyre law starts on 1 November and applies whenever the road is wintry, so a November departure is booked with a carrier that already has winter tyres fitted.
- Summer lifts close in October
- Winter tyre period starts 1 November
- SkiWelt opens 5 December 2026
