The train runs from the station in town, 1.4 km from the main square, and the quickest journeys take 2 hours 48 minutes with two changes, such as the 06:27 arriving at 09:15. For an earlier flight the choice is the 04:34 arriving at 07:55, or the 05:34 arriving at 08:57, with three changes at the weekend and all the luggage at every one.

The first stretch runs under the Wilder Kaiser past Going, Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll, the four villages where Der Bergdoktor is filmed every summer. On a late-afternoon flight there is time for a short stop in Ellmau; on an early one, it is the view from the window.

On a summer departure with an evening flight it is the natural last stop in Austria, just before the border.

The St. Johann lifts run daily from 08:30 to 16:00, from Oberndorf, close to the centre, and from the Eichenhof, until 29 March 2027. With a late flight and a car booked to your door, a last morning on the slopes is possible; with a train, it usually is not.
