Say which Courchevel when you book

Courchevel is several villages on one road, not one address. Going up from the valley the car reaches Saint-Bon, Le Praz, Courchevel Village, Courchevel Moriond and Courchevel 1850 in that order, and La Tania sits on a side road of its own. Le Praz and Courchevel 1850 are about 8 km apart, and the ski area lists them at 1300 m and 1850 m.

Give the village, the accommodation name and the street. A booking that says only Courchevel gives the driver a mountain, not a door.

About This Transfer

Your driver meets you in arrivals at Terminal 1, the skis and cases go into the back once, and within minutes the car is on the A43 heading east. It runs through the Dullin and Épine tunnels to Chambéry, takes the A430 to Albertville and the N90 up the Tarentaise to Moûtiers, then leaves the valley at exit 41 and climbs. To Courchevel 1850, the top village, the run is about 186 km and takes about 2h 20min in free-flowing traffic.

The tourist office prints 176 km for this drive. That is the distance to Saint-Bon, the first village on the climb. Le Praz is about 178 km from the airport, and Courchevel 1850 is about 10 km beyond the published figure, at the end of a climb that takes about half an hour from Moûtiers. Operators who sell the route print anything from 140 km to 190 km, so plan on the village you are staying in and not on the name of the resort.

Lyon is not the nearest airport to Courchevel. Chambéry is, at about 109 km and 1h 30min, but its own destination list runs to nine airports, all in Great Britain. Grenoble's airport is about 175 km away, and Geneva is level with Lyon on the tourist office's figures, 179 km against 176 km. Lyon's case is the flight and the road: 140 direct destinations, a TGV station a few minutes' walk from the terminal, and motorway or expressway for all but the last 24 km. Our nearest-airport table for every Alpine ski resort compares airports resort by resort.

No railway reaches Courchevel. The rails end at Moûtiers, and on the timetable valid to 12 December 2026 the train from the airport's own station takes 4h00 to 6h00 on a Saturday to get that far, before a bus or a taxi up the hill. For every run from the terminal, see our Lyon Airport transfers page, and for the other valleys the French Alps ski transfers guide.

Albertville, where the motorway ends

The A430 ends here and the N90 expressway begins, with about 29 km still to run to Moûtiers. That stretch carries about 25,000 vehicles a day on average and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays. It is the part of the drive to be through early on a changeover day.

Moûtiers, the end of the rails

The nearest railway station to Courchevel, and the point where the car leaves the N90. Every public route to the resort changes vehicle here. A private transfer passes the station and keeps climbing: about 10 km on the D915, then the D91a up through the villages.

Courchevel and Les 3 Vallées

Courchevel's lifts run from 4 December 2026 to 18 April 2027. Courchevel Village, Moriond and La Tania open on 5 December, the same day as the linked 3 Vallées area, and Moriond and La Tania close on 11 April.

Courchevel Tourisme →

Courchevel Altiport

The mountainside runway above the resort takes certain private and commercial flights. It is not where a flight into Lyon lands, so the transfer ends at your door in the village and not at the altiport.

Route Overview

Pickup: Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS)

The airport is at Colombier-Saugnieu, not in Lyon itself, and since 1 April 2026 every flight uses Terminal 1. Your driver meets you at Terminal 1 arrivals or at the car, as the carrier confirms: the airport sets aside a PRO car park, beside P0 and P1, for pre-booked taxis and chauffeur-driven vehicles. The Parking Minute bays, T1A and T1B, are reserved for private individuals, so their free first 10 minutes are what a friend or a hire car would use.

Popular Pickup Points:

• Meet in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall, name board ready
• Flight monitoring, so a late landing does not lose you the car
• Pick-up at the airport TGV station on request
• Ski and board bags declared at booking, vehicle sized to match

Drop-off: Courchevel, Savoie

A transfer drives to every village on the road: the hotel, the chalet or the apartment block, not a coach stop. The villages are linked by road and, in season, by shuttles, but the car goes to the one you sleep in. Give the full address, not just Courchevel.

Popular Drop-off Points:

• Courchevel 1850
• Courchevel Moriond (1650)
• Courchevel Village (1550)
• Courchevel Le Praz (1300)
• Courchevel La Tania, by its own side road
• Saint-Bon, the first village on the climb

🕐

Best Travel Times

Midweek runs cleanest. Saturday is changeover day for the whole Tarentaise: the N90 between Albertville and Moûtiers carries about 25,000 vehicles a day on average and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays, nearly three times the average. Les 3 Vallées itself advises travelling Sunday to Sunday. On Saturday 14 February 2026 the national traffic forecast told drivers to avoid the A43 between Lyon and Chambéry from 9:00 to 14:00.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

Two stretches slow down on a peak Saturday. The first is the A43 from Lyon to Chambéry, where that February forecast expected very heavy congestion from early morning to early evening. The second is the N90 before Moûtiers, where a traffic light holds cars back when the valley is full and lets through only as many as it can absorb. The prefecture tells drivers to stay on the N90 and not to follow a sat-nav onto side roads, which may be closed and are kept for emergency vehicles. No authority publishes the delay in minutes, so this page does not invent one.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

The drive stays in France: no border and no vignette. Tolls come to €19.50 each way for a car, €13.40 on the A43 to Chambéry and €6.10 on the stretch to Albertville, and €31.30 for a large van over 2 m high. The N90 is free. From 1 November to 31 March every vehicle in Savoie must be fitted with four winter tyres marked 3PMSF or carry chains or snow socks for two driving wheels.

💡

Carrier Tip

Name the village, then the street: Le Praz and Courchevel 1850 are about 8 km apart on the same road. Declare skis, boards and boot bags when you book, because they decide the vehicle. If your flight lands on a Saturday in the February holidays, say so in the booking notes, so the carrier plans for the A43 and the Moûtiers light.

Important Information

Meeting your driver at Lyon Airport
Since 1 April 2026 every flight at Lyon-Saint Exupéry uses Terminal 1; Terminal 2 is closed. Give your carrier the flight number so it can track the landing; the driver meets you at Terminal 1 arrivals or at the car, as the carrier confirms. The Parking Minute bays outside are reserved for private individuals: their free first 10 minutes are for a friend or a hire car, not for a booked driver.
Which Courchevel
Going up from Moûtiers the road reaches Saint-Bon, Le Praz, Courchevel Village, Courchevel Moriond and Courchevel 1850, in that order; La Tania is on a side road. The ski area lists Le Praz at 1300 m, Courchevel Village at 1550 m, Moriond at 1650 m, La Tania at 1400 m and Courchevel 1850 at 1850 m. Book the village and the street.
Tolls
The motorway toll is €19.50 each way for a car: €13.40 for the A43 to Chambéry and €6.10 for the stretch to Albertville. A large van over 2 m high pays €31.30. The N90 is free. Operators on this route include tolls in the fixed price; check that your offer does.
Winter tyres and chains
From 1 November to 31 March the winter-equipment rule covers all of Savoie: four winter tyres marked 3PMSF, or chains or snow socks for at least two driving wheels. On a private transfer that is the carrier's job. If you hire a car at the airport, ask what it is fitted with before you leave.
Skis, boards and luggage
Declare ski bags, board bags and boot bags when you book. They decide the vehicle: a saloon carrying three passengers will not also carry three hard ski cases.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Courchevel from Lyon Airport and how long is the drive?
About 186 km and 2 hours 20 minutes to Courchevel 1850 in free-flowing traffic, and about 178 km and 2 hours 10 minutes to Le Praz, the lowest lift-served village. The route is the A43 to Chambéry, the A430 to Albertville, the N90 to Moûtiers and about half an hour of climb. The tourist office's 176 km is the distance to Saint-Bon, the first village.
How much does a private transfer from Lyon Airport to Courchevel cost?
On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €375 per vehicle for a saloon and €420 for a minivan, one way; estates and minibuses are quoted on request. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so three people in a saloon pay €125 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date and village.
Is there a train or bus from Lyon Airport to Courchevel?
Not a direct one. Courchevel has no railway station; the nearest is Moûtiers, and on the timetable valid to 12 December 2026 the train from the airport's TGV station takes 4h00 to 6h00 on a Saturday to reach it, usually with two changes. From Moûtiers a bus costs around €12 per adult and a taxi €75. A seasonal ski coach runs from the airport to Moûtiers on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at most, from 11 December 2026 to 3 April 2027, and you change there. A private transfer takes about 2h 20min to the door with no change.
Which airport is closest to Courchevel?
Chambéry Airport, about 109 km and 1h 30min by road, though its destination list is nine airports, all in Great Britain. Grenoble's airport is about 175 km and 2h 15min, Lyon Airport about 186 km and 2h 20min to Courchevel 1850. On the tourist office's own figures Lyon and Geneva are level, 176 km against 179 km. A private transfer runs from any of them to your door.
Are there tolls between Lyon Airport and Courchevel?
Yes: €19.50 each way for a car, paid in two parts, €13.40 for the A43 to Chambéry and €6.10 for the stretch from Chambéry to Albertville, at the tariff in force from 1 February 2026. The N90 from Albertville to Moûtiers is free. On a private transfer the toll is normally inside the quoted price.
Do I need winter tyres or snow chains to drive from Lyon Airport to Courchevel?
Yes, from 1 November to 31 March. The rule covers all of Savoie, and a car needs four winter tyres marked 3PMSF or chains or snow socks for at least two driving wheels. On a private transfer the carrier supplies an equipped vehicle, so the question only arises if you drive yourself.
How bad is Saturday traffic between Albertville and Moûtiers?
Heavy on changeover Saturdays. The N90 between Albertville and Moûtiers carries about 25,000 vehicles a day on average and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays, and a traffic light before Moûtiers holds cars back when the valley is full. The prefecture tells drivers to stay on the N90. No authority publishes the delay in minutes; a carrier who drives it weekly sets the pickup time with that in mind.
Which Courchevel village is highest, and how long is the drive up from Moûtiers?
Courchevel 1850 is the highest, listed by the ski area at 1850 m, with Moriond at 1650 m, Courchevel Village at 1550 m, La Tania at 1400 m and Le Praz at 1300 m. The drive up from Moûtiers to Courchevel 1850 is about 24 km and takes about half an hour; Le Praz is about 16 km up.

Why Book This Route?

  • •About 186 km and 2h 20min from arrivals to your door, against a train that takes 4h00 or more on a Saturday to reach Moûtiers, on the timetable valid to 12 December 2026, and still leaves the climb
  • •One vehicle to the village you booked, from Le Praz at 1300 m to Courchevel 1850, not a coach stop in the valley
  • •The carrier brings the winter tyres or chains that Savoie requires from 1 November to 31 March
  • •Runs every day of the week, while the airport ski coach runs on three days a week at most
  • •Quoted per vehicle, not per head: six in a minivan pay €70 each

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
