Time this one backwards from the flight

Lyon Airport advises arriving 2.5 hours before a flight within France or Europe and 3 hours before a flight outside Europe. Add the free-flow drive of about 2h 20min from Courchevel 1850 and the car leaves at least 4h 50min before a European departure, 5h 20min before one outside Europe, and earlier on a Saturday.

Give your carrier the flight number and the village. It sets the pickup time from the flight, not from a guess at the road.

About This Transfer

The car is outside your chalet at the time the carrier worked back from your flight, the skis and cases go in once, and the road drops through the villages to Moûtiers in about half an hour. From there it is expressway and motorway all the way: the N90 down the Tarentaise to Albertville, the A430, then the A43 through Chambéry and the Épine and Dullin tunnels to Lyon-Saint Exupéry. From Courchevel 1850 the run is about 186 km and takes about 2h 20min in free-flowing traffic; from Le Praz it is about 178 km and 2h 10min.

The airport sets the rest of the sum. Its own advice is to arrive 2.5 hours before a flight within France or Europe and 3 hours before one outside Europe, so leaving Courchevel 1850 at least 4h 50min before a European departure is the floor and not a cushion. Since 1 April 2026 check-in, bag drop, security and boarding are all in Terminal 1, so there is one place to be dropped.

Saturday is the day the sum changes. The N90 between Moûtiers and Albertville carries about 25,000 vehicles a day on average and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays, so a Saturday pickup is set earlier than the free-flow sum gives.

No train leaves from Courchevel. The nearest station is Moûtiers, and on the timetable valid to 12 December 2026 the first connection of the day reaches the airport at 10:49, or at 08:53 on Fridays, too late for any flight before about 13:20, or about 11:25 on a Friday. For the trip in the other direction and every run from the terminal, see our Lyon Airport transfers page. Our ski resort transfers page explains what skis, boards and group size do to a quote, and the French Alps ski transfers guide covers the other valleys.

Moûtiers, where the valley road starts

The car joins the N90 here, about 24 km below Courchevel 1850, and passes the nearest railway station to the resort. Rail from Moûtiers to the airport takes 4h00 to 5h47 with two changes on the timetable valid to 12 December 2026; the car is on the expressway and gone.

Albertville, where the motorway starts

The N90 ends here and the A430 begins. The stretch behind you carries about 25,000 vehicles a day on average and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays, so on a changeover day it is the part to be through early.

Route Overview

Pickup: Courchevel, Savoie

The car comes to the door in whichever village you are staying in: the hotel, the chalet or the apartment block. Going down, the road passes Courchevel 1850, Courchevel Moriond, Courchevel Village, Le Praz and Saint-Bon in that order, and La Tania is on a side road of its own. Give the full address, not just Courchevel.

Popular Pickup Points:

• Courchevel Moriond (1650)

• Airport TGV station on request
• Ski and board bags declared at booking, vehicle sized to match

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

🕐

Best Travel Times

Midweek runs cleanest. Saturday is changeover day for the whole Tarentaise, and Les 3 Vallées itself advises travelling Sunday to Sunday. On Saturday 14 February 2026 the national traffic forecast told returning drivers to avoid the A43 between Chambéry and Lyon from 11:00 to 14:00, and expected the motorway to be very busy from mid-morning to early evening.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

Two stretches slow down on a peak Saturday: the N90 from Moûtiers to Albertville, which carries up to 70,000 vehicles on some winter Saturdays against a 25,000 average, and the A43 on to Lyon. The prefecture tells drivers to stay on the N90 and not to follow a sat-nav onto side roads, which may be closed and are kept for emergency vehicles. No authority publishes the delay in minutes, so this page does not invent one; the carrier adds its own margin to the pickup time.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

The drive stays in France: no border and no vignette. Tolls come to €19.50 for a car, €6.10 on the stretch from Albertville to Chambéry and €13.40 on the A43 to Lyon, and €31.30 for a large van over 2 m high. The N90 is free. From 1 November to 31 March every vehicle in Savoie must be fitted with four winter tyres marked 3PMSF or carry chains or snow socks for two driving wheels.

💡

Carrier Tip

Give the flight number, the village and the street, and say whether the flight is within Europe or beyond it: the airport's advised lead is 2.5 hours for one and 3 hours for the other. Declare skis, boards and boot bags when you book. If you fly on a Saturday in the February holidays, say so, and expect an earlier pickup than the free-flow sum gives.

Important Information

How early to leave Courchevel
Lyon Airport advises arriving 2.5 hours before a flight within France or Europe and 3 hours before a flight outside Europe, and says the lead your airline states still applies. With a free-flow drive of about 2h 20min from Courchevel 1850, that is at least 4h 50min before a European flight and 5h 20min before one outside Europe. From Le Praz it is 10 minutes less. On a Saturday, leave earlier.
Terminal 1 only
Since 1 April 2026 every flight at Lyon-Saint Exupéry uses Terminal 1, and Terminal 2 is closed. Check-in, bag drop, security and boarding are all there, and the transfer drops you at Terminal 1 departures.
Morning flights and the train
On the timetable valid to 12 December 2026, the first rail connection of the day leaves Moûtiers at 06:49 and reaches the airport station at 10:49; on Fridays an earlier one arrives at 08:53. With the airport's advised 2.5 hours, no train serves a flight before about 13:20, or about 11:25 on a Friday, and that is before the road down from Courchevel. A pre-booked car leaves when your flight needs it to.
Tolls and winter equipment
The motorway toll is €19.50 for a car and €31.30 for a large van over 2 m high; the N90 is free. From 1 November to 31 March the winter-equipment rule covers all of Savoie: four winter tyres marked 3PMSF, or chains or snow socks for at least two driving wheels. On a private transfer both are the carrier's job.
Skis, boards and luggage
Declare ski bags, board bags and boot bags when you book. They decide the vehicle: a saloon carrying three passengers will not also carry three hard ski cases.
Child seats
Child and booster seats are available on request. Put the ages in the booking notes, not just the number of children, because the ages decide the seat type.

Frequently Asked Questions

How early should I leave Courchevel to catch a flight from Lyon Airport?
At least 4 hours 50 minutes before a flight within France or Europe, and 5 hours 20 minutes before a flight outside Europe, from Courchevel 1850. That is the free-flow drive of about 2h 20min plus the arrival time Lyon Airport itself advises, 2.5 hours and 3 hours. Leave earlier on a Saturday in the ski season, when the N90 below Moûtiers carries up to 70,000 vehicles a day.
How long is the drive from Courchevel to Lyon Airport?
About 2 hours 20 minutes from Courchevel 1850 in free-flowing traffic, for about 186 km, and about 2 hours 10 minutes and 178 km from Le Praz. The road drops to Moûtiers in about half an hour, then follows the N90 to Albertville, the A430 and the A43 through Chambéry to the airport.
How much does a private transfer from Courchevel to Lyon Airport cost?
On TransferBnB a private transfer starts from around €375 per vehicle for a saloon and €420 for a minivan, one way; estates and minibuses are quoted on request. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so three people in a saloon pay €125 each. Verified carriers send quotes for your date and village.
Can I get from Courchevel to Lyon Airport by train?
Not from Courchevel itself, which has no railway station. The nearest is Moûtiers, a bus at around €12 per adult or a taxi at €75 down the hill, and from there the train to the airport's TGV station takes 4h00 to 5h47 with two changes on the timetable valid to 12 December 2026. The first connection of the day arrives at 10:49, or at 08:53 on Fridays. A private transfer takes about 2h 20min from the door with no change.
Which terminal does a Courchevel transfer drop at in Lyon?
Terminal 1. Since 1 April 2026 every flight at Lyon-Saint Exupéry leaves from Terminal 1, where check-in, bag drop, security and boarding are in one place; Terminal 2 is closed. A private transfer drops you at Terminal 1 departures.
Are there tolls on the way from Courchevel to Lyon Airport?
Yes: €19.50 for a car, paid in two parts, €6.10 for the stretch from Albertville to Chambéry and €13.40 for the A43 from Chambéry toward Lyon, at the tariff in force from 1 February 2026. The N90 from Moûtiers to Albertville is free. On a private transfer the toll is normally inside the quoted price.
How bad is Saturday traffic leaving Courchevel?
Heavy on changeover Saturdays. The N90 between Moûtiers and Albertville carries about 25,000 vehicles a day on average and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays. On Saturday 14 February 2026 the national forecast told returning drivers to avoid the A43 from Chambéry to Lyon between 11:00 and 14:00. No authority publishes the delay in minutes; a carrier who drives the road weekly sets the pickup time with that in mind.

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
