About This Transfer
Your driver stops at the door of your Val Thorens residence, the skis and cases go into the back once, and the car drops down the D117 through Les Menuires and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville to Moûtiers. There it joins the N90 expressway to Albertville, then the A430 and the A43 past Chambéry to Lyon-Saint Exupéry. The whole run is about 199 km and takes about 2h 30min in free-flowing traffic.
The clock that matters is the flight's. Lyon Airport recommends arriving 2.5 hours before departure, so the car should leave the resort at least 5 hours before the flight, and earlier on a holiday Saturday or in snow. Your airline's own check-in deadline still applies.
Saturday is the day to plan around: the N90 between Moûtiers and Albertville is the stretch every Tarentaise resort empties onto. On Saturday 14 February 2026 the national forecast told returning drivers to avoid the A43 from Chambéry to Lyon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tolls are €19.50 for a car, the same as on the way up.
The car that collects you has to climb to the resort first, so it arrives on winter tyres marked 3PMSF or carrying chains, as Savoie requires from 1 November to 31 March. For every run to and from the terminal, see our Lyon Airport transfers page. Our French Alps ski transfers guide covers the valleys and their changeover days, and the ski resort transfers page explains what skis, boards and group size do to a quote.

Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.
Val Thorens
The highest ski resort in Europe by the ski area's own description, and the last in the 3 Vallées to close: the lifts run to 2 May 2027, two weeks after the linked area shuts on 18 April.
Val Thorens tourist office →Les Menuires
The next resort down the same road. A carrier collecting a group split between the two resorts picks up here on the way down.
Les Menuires →Saint-Martin-de-Belleville
The village resort lower in the Belleville valley, on the way to Moûtiers and the N90.
Saint-Martin-de-Belleville →Route Overview
Pickup: Val Thorens, Belleville valley, Savoie
Val Thorens restricts street parking in winter, but a vehicle may make a minute stop in front of your accommodation, so the car collects you at the door. If you have already checked out, the bus station at Place des Arolles has luggage storage and receives private-hire cars for the airports. Agree the pickup point when you book.
Popular Pickup Points:
Drop-off: Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS)
The airport is east of Lyon, 25 km from the city centre, with one terminal in use, Terminal 1, and a TGV station. The drop is at Terminal 1 departures. Tell the carrier the flight number.

Best Travel Times
Work back from the flight: 5 hours before departure in free-flowing traffic. The French winter holidays put five changeover Saturdays in a row in 2027, on 6, 13, 20 and 27 February and 6 March, and those need a wider margin. A Sunday or midweek flight is the easier way home.
Traffic Patterns
The N90 between Moûtiers and Albertville is where a Saturday is lost: about 25,000 vehicles a day on average, up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays, nearly three times as many. The national forecast for Saturday 14 February 2026 classed return traffic orange in the region and told drivers to avoid the A43 from Chambéry to Lyon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The prefecture's advice is to stay on the N90 and not follow a sat-nav onto side roads.
Road & Border Notes
The drive stays in France. Tolls are €19.50 for a car and €31.30 for a taller van in toll class 2; the car passes four toll stations, Sainte-Hélène, Chignin, Chambéry Nord and Saint-Quentin-Fallavier. From 1 November to 31 March all of Savoie requires chains or snow socks for two driving wheels, or four winter tyres marked 3PMSF. The N90 is free.
Carrier Tip
Give the flight number and the residence name, and say how many ski and board bags are coming down: they decide the vehicle. If you check out hours before the pickup, leave the bags at the Place des Arolles bus station and meet the car there.

Price & Vehicle Options
A private transfer from Val Thorens to Lyon Airport costs from around €340 one way, priced per vehicle rather than per person. On this route the published fares barely change with the size of the vehicle, so a saloon and a minivan start at the same figure: three people in a saloon pay about €113 each, six in a minivan about €57 each.
| Vehicle | Seats | Luggage | From | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan / Saloon | 1-3 | 2-3 bags | from €340 | Couples, solo skiers, light luggage |
| Minivan / Van | 5-8 | 8 bags + ski bags | from €340 | Families, ski groups, hard ski cases |
| Minibus | 9+ | group | Quote on request | Large groups, club trips |
Prices are per vehicle, one way and indicative. Verified carriers quote for your date, and Saturdays and peak dates are priced higher than a quiet weekday. No published minibus fare exists for this route that we would stand behind, so that step comes by quote.
