About This Transfer
Your driver meets you in arrivals at Lyon-Saint Exupéry, the skis and cases go into the back once, and within minutes the car is on the A432 and the A43 heading east. It turns south on the A48 to Grenoble, runs down the west side of the city on the A480, then leaves the motorway for the N85 to Vizille and the D1091 up the Romanche valley to Le Bourg-d'Oisans. The valley road carries on to the Chambon dam, where the car turns right onto the D213 for the last 10 km up to the resort at 1,650 m. The whole run is about 162 km and takes about 2h 15min in free-flowing traffic.
Route planners put the drive at 1h 55min to 2 hours. Routed by the signed road from the dam it is 2h 15min before any traffic, and operators who drive it publish up to 2h 30min. The second half is the reason. About 90 km of the drive is autoroute; the last 65 km are a national road, one valley road and a mountain climb.
Lyon is not the nearest airport to Les Deux Alpes. Grenoble Alpes-Isère is about 115 km and 1h 45min from the resort and Chambéry about 140 km and 2h 05min, and all of them finish on the same 65 km. What a Lyon arrival adds is motorway, with one toll of €13.70 each way for a car. No railway reaches the resort: its rail gateway is the TGV station at Grenoble, 70 km away.
Les Deux Alpes sits at 1,650 m under a glacier that takes the lifts to 3,600 m, and the car goes to the door of the hotel, chalet or apartment. For every run from the terminal, see our Lyon Airport transfers page. Our French Alps ski transfers guide is the wider picture for the season, and the table of Alpine resorts by nearest airport puts the airports side by side.

Sights Along the Route
Your driver covers the distance while you enjoy the scenery.
The Jandri and the glacier
The Jandri reaches 3,200 m in 17 minutes from the centre of the resort, in two sections with a stop at 2,600 m, and a funicular carries on to 3,400 m. The ski area tops out at 3,600 m on the glacier: 220 km of slopes, and a 2,300 m vertical drop without taking a lift.
Les 2 Alpes ski area →Belvédère des Écrins and the ice cave
Two reasons for the non-skiers in the car to ride up: a footbridge over the void at 3,400 m, a 10-minute walk from the funicular, and an ice cave carved 30 metres beneath the glacier.
Les 2 Alpes pedestrian access →Venosc
A village of century-old houses and cobbled, pedestrianised streets in the Vénéon valley, on the edge of the Écrins National Park. The gondola links it to the resort in 8 minutes.
Venosc village →The Chambon dam
The turn that matters. At the dam the car leaves the D1091, which carries on toward Briançon, and climbs the D213 to the resort. It is the normal winter road, and the resort says its roads are generally cleared of snow.

Pickup: Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS)
One terminal is in use: Terminal 2 has been closed since 1 April 2026 and every flight arrives at Terminal 1, with the TGV station a few minutes' walk away. Your driver meets you at Terminal 1 arrivals or at the car, as the carrier confirms. The airport keeps a separate PRO car park for pre-booked drivers; the drop-off bays, with their 10 free minutes, are reserved for private individuals, which is what a friend collecting you would use.
Popular Pickup Points:
Drop-off: Les Deux Alpes, Oisans, Isère
A transfer drives to the door: hotels, chalets and apartments in the resort at 1,650 m. Give the full address and the name of the residence, not just Les Deux Alpes. If you are staying in Venosc, say so when you book: the village is down in the Vénéon valley, 8 minutes from the resort by gondola.

Best Travel Times
Midweek runs cleanest. The French winter holidays run from 6 February to 8 March 2027, and their Saturdays are the changeover days on this road: 6, 13, 20 and 27 February and 6 March. Lyon and Grenoble are in zone A, off from 13 February to 1 March. Christmas holidays run from 19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, and the Rise Festival fills the resort from 5 to 12 December 2026.
Traffic Patterns
The drive has two halves. To Grenoble it is autoroute. The A480 round the city has run on three lanes each way since 2022 and the Rondeau works finished in July 2026, with a 70 km/h limit on about 6 km of it. From the A480 exit it is ordinary road: the N85 to Vizille, then the D1091 through Séchilienne and Livet-et-Gavet to Le Bourg-d'Oisans and on to the Chambon dam. From Le Bourg-d'Oisans to the resort is about 24 km, a little under half an hour. An operator who drives the route allows at least an hour more on winter Saturdays and Sundays.
Road & Border Notes
The drive stays in France and crosses no border. There is one toll, €13.70 each way for a car and €21.70 for a vehicle over 2 m high, between the Saint-Quentin-Fallavier and Voreppe barriers; nothing is charged after Grenoble. From 1 November to 31 March winter equipment is compulsory from Séchilienne up the Romanche valley and in Les Deux Alpes: four winter tyres marked 3PMSF, or chains or snow socks for at least two drive wheels.
Carrier Tip
Give the full address and the name of the residence, not just the resort. Declare skis, boards and boot bags when you book, because they decide the vehicle. Ask the carrier to confirm winter tyres, and if you land on a holiday Saturday, say so: the quote and the pickup plan should be for that day, not for a Tuesday.
