Flight Monitoring

Your carrier monitors your flight for delays. Share your flight number when booking and your driver adjusts the pickup time to your actual landing. Most flights here land at weekends, when the roads are busiest, so the pickup is timed to the landing, not to the timetable.

About Grenoble Airport

Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, a winter timetable, a new operator, and which airport is nearest to which resort

Your driver loads the bags in the P2 car park and takes the D119 across the Bièvre: about 13 km and 10 minutes from the terminal to the A48 at Rives. From there the motorway runs to Grenoble, where the road to the Oisans and the road to the Tarentaise part. Grenoble Alpes Isère Airport, IATA code GNB, is the nearest airport to Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes. Our France transfers page covers the rest of the country.

Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, not Grenoble

The airport is about 45 km from the city by road.

It sits north-west of Grenoble, in the Bièvre, and its operator places it halfway between Grenoble, Lyon and Valence. In free flow the railway station is about 35 minutes away by car. The airport took its present form for the 1968 Winter Olympic Games, and its one paved runway is 3,050 m long.

A winter airport, and a weekend one

The flights cluster at the weekend.

The airport lists eleven scheduled destinations in four countries, eight of them in Great Britain, with Dublin, Warsaw and Vilnius, and it is hiring seasonal staff for winter 2026-2027. It prints no season dates of its own. Ryanair's booking calendar, read on 8 October 2026, has flights into Grenoble on sale from 5 December 2026 to 10 April 2027, on these days:

  • Bristol, Birmingham, London Luton. Saturdays, 12 December to 10 April.
  • Manchester. Fridays and Saturdays, 5 December to 10 April.
  • London Stansted. Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, 12 December to 10 April.
  • Dublin. Saturdays and Sundays, 13 December to 4 April.

All six routes fly on Saturdays, and only Stansted has a regular midweek day. Charter flights land from London Gatwick on Saturdays and Sundays, and from Sofia on Saturdays. The other airlines on the airport's list keep their own calendars, so check the day on yours.

A new operator since July 2026

Edeis has run the airport since 1 July 2026.

The concession passed from VINCI Airports, and guides written before then still name the old operator. The website moved with it: grenoble-airport.com now redirects to grenoble.aeroport.fr.

The bus, and where the rails are

No railway serves the airport.

The public link is the airport bus from the departures terminal to Grenoble's central station, about 40 minutes, some 5 minutes more than a car. For one traveller staying near the station it does the job. The catch is what comes after the station: a second bus or a car for the climb.

Scheduled ski coaches run to Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes through the week. The airport says they connect with every scheduled flight; the Alpe d'Huez lift company says selected flights. To Val Thorens the scheduled coach the airport lists runs on Saturdays, from 12 December 2026 to 3 April 2027, and its Sunday runs stop at Moûtiers.

Which airport for which resort

Grenoble is the nearest airport to the Oisans.

Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes are about half an hour nearer from here than from Lyon, and more than an hour nearer than from Geneva. The Three Valleys are a different case. The table puts four airports side by side, every figure a free-flow drive from the terminal.

Read the table by where your flight can land, not by the shortest row. Grenoble wins three of the six rows and Chambéry two, yet Grenoble handled 261,000 passengers in 2025 and Chambéry 191,000, against 10.7 million at Lyon, about 40 times Grenoble's traffic.

For Val Thorens and Courchevel, Chambéry is about 45 minutes nearer than Grenoble, and Grenoble is only about 5 minutes nearer than Lyon or Geneva. Geneva wins Chamonix outright. Our Lyon Airport transfers page has the same table from the other side, the French Alps ski transfers guide compares the gateways, and the nearest-airport table lists every resort. For the choice itself, read which airport for the French Alps.

Fly here for the Oisans. For the Three Valleys, pick the flight first.

South-east to the Oisans

Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes share the road to Le Bourg-d'Oisans.

That trunk is about 92 km and 1h 25 in free flow: about 37 km of motorway on the A48 and the A480 past Grenoble, for €3.90 in tolls each way for a car, then about 42 km of the N85 and the D1091 up the Romanche valley. From Le Bourg-d'Oisans the two climbs part, and the whole drive from the airport is about 1h 40 to Alpe d'Huez and about 1h 45 to Les Deux Alpes. Our Grenoble Airport to Alpe d'Huez and Grenoble Airport to Les Deux Alpes pages cover the last climbs.

East to Val Thorens

The Tarentaise drive crosses Grenoble first.

From the A48 the car crosses the city to the A41, runs up the Grésivaudan to the A43, then takes the A430 to Albertville and the N90 expressway to Moûtiers: about 151 km and 1h 50 in free flow, with €14.40 in tolls each way for a car, paid in two stages. Val Thorens is about 2h 25 from the airport in all. Our Grenoble Airport to Val Thorens page covers the climb from Moûtiers.

The N90 is the pinch: about 25,000 vehicles a day between Albertville and Moûtiers, and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays.

The winter rule and the Saturdays

From 1 November to 31 March the mountain roads require winter tyres or chains.

The airport road and the motorway to Grenoble are outside the equipment zones. On the Oisans drive the rule starts in the Romanche valley, and the listed communes of the Isère include Huez and Les Deux Alpes; on the way to Val Thorens it starts at the Savoie boundary and covers the whole department. A hire car needs checking for it. With a transfer, the vehicle and its equipment are the carrier's to supply.

The winter-break Saturdays of 2027 are 6, 13, 20 and 27 February and 6 March, and the Christmas holidays run from 19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027. Those are the busy changeover days.

Land on a February Saturday with a family and ski bags bound for Les Deux Alpes, and the car booked before you fly is the answer.

How Much Does a Grenoble Airport Transfer Cost?

Carriers quote per vehicle, for your flight, your party and your luggage.

It depends on four things, and every carrier on TransferBnB prices them into one quote per vehicle before you fly:

  • The vehicle. A saloon for two, an MPV or a minivan for a family or a group, so nobody is split across two cars.
  • The party and the bags. Ski and board bags need a longer boot or a roof box, so put them in the request.
  • The distance. From the 45 km run to Grenoble to the 188 km drive to Val Thorens; the route cards above carry each drive.
  • The date. Carriers quote for the day you travel, so give the flight date and number in the request.

Grenoble Airport publishes no table of taxi fares, so there is no official benchmark to set a quote against. It lists phone numbers for the taxis that serve it, and no prices.

Motorway tolls are €3.90 each way for a car to the Oisans and €14.40 to Moûtiers, so ask whether a quote includes them. Where published fares back a figure, the route card shows it as a from-price per vehicle; every other run is quoted by the carriers on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does my transfer driver meet me at Grenoble Airport?
In the arrivals terminal or at the car in the P2 car park; your carrier confirms which in the booking chat. The airport no longer allows any car to stop in front of the terminal, so every pickup and drop-off uses P2, where the first 10 minutes are free. Arrivals and departures are in separate terminal buildings. Share your flight number and the driver times the pickup to your actual landing.
Does Grenoble Airport have flights in winter 2026-27, and on which days?
Yes. The airport lists eleven scheduled destinations, eight in Great Britain plus Dublin, Warsaw and Vilnius, and it is hiring seasonal staff for winter 2026-2027. On Ryanair's booking calendar, read on 8 October 2026, flights into Grenoble are on sale from 5 December 2026 to 10 April 2027: Saturdays from Bristol, Birmingham and London Luton, Fridays and Saturdays from Manchester, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from London Stansted, and Saturdays and Sundays from Dublin. Charter flights land from London Gatwick on Saturdays and Sundays and from Sofia on Saturdays. A private transfer is booked for your flight, whichever day it lands.
Can a car stop outside the terminal at Grenoble Airport?
No. Passenger drop-off in front of the terminal is no longer permitted, and stopping there is prohibited. Cars use the P2 car park instead: the first 10 minutes are free, 11 to 15 minutes cost €3, 16 to 30 minutes €4 and 46 minutes to an hour €6. Parking cannot be booked ahead, the exit barrier takes cards only, and a lost ticket costs €400. A transfer driver uses P2 like everyone else and meets you in the arrivals terminal or at the car.
How far is Grenoble Airport from Grenoble?
About 45 km by road, and about 35 minutes in free flow, to Grenoble railway station. The airport is at Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, north-west of the city, and the drive is about 13 km to the A48 at Rives, mostly on the D119, then motorway. The airport bus to Grenoble's central station takes about 40 minutes. A private transfer goes to your hotel door instead of the station.
How long is the transfer from Grenoble Airport to Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes?
About 1h 40 to Alpe d'Huez (106 km) and about 1h 45 to Les Deux Alpes (115 km), in free flow. The two drives share the road as far as Le Bourg-d'Oisans, about 92 km and 1h 25 from the airport: the D119, the A48 and A480 past Grenoble, then the N85 and the D1091 up the Romanche valley, with €3.90 in motorway tolls each way for a car. Grenoble is the nearest airport to both resorts, about half an hour nearer than Lyon. A private transfer is door to door, skis included.
How long is the drive from Grenoble Airport to Val Thorens?
About 2h 25 (188 km) in free flow. The drive runs down the A48 to Grenoble, across the city to the A41, then the A43, the A430 and the N90 expressway to Moûtiers, about 151 km and 1h 50 from the airport, with €14.40 in tolls each way for a car. The N90 carries about 25,000 vehicles a day between Albertville and Moûtiers and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays, so holiday Saturdays run slower. Chambéry Airport is about 45 minutes nearer; if your flight lands at Grenoble, a private transfer does the drive in one vehicle, with no change at Moûtiers.
Which airport is closest to Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes: Grenoble, Lyon, Chambéry or Geneva?
Grenoble. In free-flow driving Alpe d'Huez is about 1h 40 from Grenoble Airport, 2h from Chambéry, 2h 10 from Lyon and 2h 50 from Geneva; Les Deux Alpes is about 1h 45 from Grenoble, 2h 05 from Chambéry, 2h 15 from Lyon and 2h 55 from Geneva. The catch is the timetable: Grenoble handled 261,000 passengers in 2025 against Lyon's 10.7 million, and its flights land mostly at weekends in winter. Whichever of the four you land at, a private transfer covers the drive in one vehicle, door to door.
Is there a train or a bus from Grenoble Airport to the ski resorts?
There is no train: no railway serves the airport, and the station it connects to is Grenoble's, about 40 minutes away on the airport bus. Scheduled ski coaches run to Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes through the week: the airport says they connect with every scheduled flight, the Alpe d'Huez lift company says selected flights. To Val Thorens the scheduled coach the airport lists runs on Saturdays, from 12 December 2026 to 3 April 2027, and its Sunday runs stop at Moûtiers on the valley floor. A coach runs to its own timetable. A private transfer leaves when you have your bags and ends at your door.
How much is a taxi or a private transfer from Grenoble Airport to the ski resorts?
Carriers on TransferBnB quote per vehicle for your flight, your party and your luggage, before you fly. Grenoble Airport publishes no table of taxi fares; it lists phone numbers for the taxis that serve it, and no prices. Motorway tolls are €3.90 each way for a car to the Oisans and €14.40 to Moûtiers, so ask whether a quote includes them. Where published fares back a figure, the route page shows it as a from-price per vehicle.
Do I need winter tyres or snow chains between Grenoble Airport and the ski resorts?
Yes, from 1 November to 31 March, once the road climbs. French law requires winter tyres or snow chains in signed mountain zones: listed communes of the Isère, Huez and Les Deux Alpes among them, and the whole of Savoie on the way to Val Thorens. The airport road and the motorway to Grenoble are outside the zones; the rule starts in the Romanche valley on the Oisans drive and at the Savoie boundary on the Tarentaise drive. Check a hire car for them before leaving the airport. With a private transfer the vehicle and its equipment are the carrier's responsibility.
Who operates Grenoble Airport in 2026?
Edeis, since 1 July 2026. It took over the concession from VINCI Airports, and guides written before then still name the old operator. Edeis runs 22 airports. The airport's website moved with the change: the old grenoble-airport.com address now redirects to grenoble.aeroport.fr.

What our customers say

  • Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.
    Thomas B. — London, UK
  • Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.
    Marta R. — Munich, Germany
  • Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.
    Olivier D. — Lyon, France
  • Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.
    Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland
  • Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.
    Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
    Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria
