Naples Airport will close for runway work in November 2026

The airport's operator says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work. The dates are not yet published: its notice gives the month and no first or last day. If you fly that month, confirm with your airline which airport the flight uses before you book a transfer. In every other month a car leaves Amalfi at the hour your flight sets: the first direct coach is timetabled into the airport at 09:10 and the first boat leaves Amalfi at 08:54, while the terminal opens at 03:30.

Operator's notice dated 21 September 2026. Check aeroportodinapoli.it for the dates. Coach times were read for 10 and 14 October 2026.

About This Transfer

The car collects you in Amalfi at the time your flight sets, the cases go in once, and you leave town on the coast road for about the first 2 km. Then the routed line turns uphill onto the SR366, crosses the mountain at Agerola, and comes down to the SS145 and the A3 motorway north past Pompeii. Amalfi to Naples Airport is about 66 km. The driver stops in the dedicated bays on the departures road, at an airport with one terminal.

On a clear road the routed drive takes 68 minutes. Operators who drive this road publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes, and no authority publishes a summer figure, so set the pickup with your carrier on the operators' range and the day's conditions. The airport says when its check-in desks open, 2 hours before domestic and international flights and 3 hours before intercontinental ones; build your own margin on top of that.

An early pickup has one thing in its favour. The alternating-plate rule on the coast road applies only between 10:00 and 18:00, so before then the road is open to every car and at its least restricted.

The coach and the boat are fair choices for a flight after midday with light bags. For everything earlier, later or heavier, a booked car is the plain answer. The arrival leg is described on our Naples Airport to Amalfi page, and the Naples Airport transfers page covers the airport itself and the other towns on the coast.

✓ Pickup timed to your flight, from 03:30 opening

✓ SR366 over Agerola, then the A3 motorway

✓ Set down in the departures road bays

💡 Stop requests: Most carriers on this route are happy to make short stops at viewpoints or towns. Mention it when booking or ask your driver directly.
⛰️The first stretch of the drive

The Agerola road

After about 2 km of coast road the car climbs the SR366 away from the sea and over the mountain at Agerola. It is about 28 km of the drive and the reason so little of it is spent on the Amalfitana.

Comune di Praiano, the 2026 plate rule →
🏛️About 28 km before the airport

Pompeii

The excavations are beside the A3, under half an hour from the airport on a clear road, which makes them a possible stop when the flight is late in the day. Suitcases and bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside, and left luggage at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances is paid. A car that waits with the cases solves that; agree the waiting time in the offer.

Parco Archeologico di Pompei →

Amalfi seafront

Piazza Flavio Gioia, the seafront square, is outside the limited-traffic zone and holds the town's pick-up area for licensed cars. The zone itself is the main street inland from Piazza Duomo. If your hotel is up that street or up the steps, ask it the evening before how the cases get down to the square.

Route Overview

Pickup: Amalfi town

Licensed private-hire cars pick passengers up in the Flavio Gioia I area on the seafront, which the carrier books and pays for through the town's BusPass system: currently €10 for two stops of at most 5 minutes in the same day. The stop is short, so be at the square with your cases when the car arrives. Taxis and private-hire cars may also enter the limited-traffic zone inland from Piazza Duomo, without parking, and must leave within 60 minutes. Agree the exact spot with your carrier the day before.

Popular Pickup Points:

• Flavio Gioia I pick-up area, seafront
• Piazza Duomo and the main street, 60-minute access
• Hotels on the coast road either side of town
• The pier, if you arrive in Amalfi by boat

Drop-off: Naples Airport (NAP)

Naples has one terminal. Private-hire cars set down only in the dedicated temporary bays on the departures road, for the time it takes to unload you and your cases, inside the 15 minutes the airport allows any car on its roads. The terminal is open from 03:30 to 22:30. Check-in desks are on the ground floor and open 2 hours before domestic and international flights and 3 hours before intercontinental ones.

Popular Drop-off Points:

• Departures road, private-hire bays
• Check-in desks, ground floor
• Terminal open 03:30 to 22:30
• One terminal for all airlines

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

🕐

Best Travel Times

Work back from the flight, not from the map: operators who drive this road publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes. Summer is the busy side of the year at the airport: August was its busiest month in 2025 and January its quietest, with more than twice the passengers. Amalfi posts traffic wardens at 5 points in town from 09:00 to 19:00 from 1 April, and a pickup before 09:00 is clear of that window.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

The drive starts with about 28 km of mountain road and ends on the motorway. The direct coach uses the coast road to Vietri sul Mare instead and is timetabled at 1 hour 50 minutes, with a warning that traffic can delay it. A car has no stops to make and can take whichever side the carrier judges better that morning.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

No border. On the A3 a car without a transponder pays €2.30 at the toll station in 2026, with no ticket to take, and a taller two-axle van or minibus pays €2.40. The routed return reaches the airport by a short stretch of the Tangenziale di Napoli, whose own car toll is €1.05; whether the car passes that toll station depends on the line the driver takes, so ask for tolls to be inside the offer.

💡

Carrier Tip

Give the carrier your flight number and the hotel's street address, and settle the pickup time together. Say how many cases you have, because the vehicle is sized to them. If your hotel is up the steps, arrange the cases down to the square before the car is due: the pick-up stop is limited to 5 minutes.

When to Travel This Route

Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.

❄️

Winter (Dec-Feb)

Low Demand

January was the quietest month at Naples Airport in 2025. The boat has no timetable after 3 November 2026 and the plate rule is off, and the direct coach showed no bookable rides for mid-November when we checked, so a winter departure is a booked car.

  • No boat timetable after 3 November 2026
  • Plate rule off
  • Quietest months at the airport
🌸

Spring (Mar-May)

Medium Demand

The boat timetable starts on 1 April with two sailings a day from Amalfi, at 08:54 and 15:45, and adds two more from 1 May. In 2026 the plate rule ran every day in Easter week, from 30 March to 6 April, and over the late-April bridge to 2 May. Amalfi's traffic wardens start on 1 April.

  • Boat from 1 April
  • Plate rule in Easter week and the late-April bridge
  • Extra sailings from 1 May
☀️

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Peak Demand

August was the busiest month at Naples Airport in 2025, with more than twice January's passengers. The plate rule applies on weekends and holidays from 30 May to the end of July and every day in August, from 10:00 to 18:00. Book the car when you book the flight, and set the pickup on the operators' 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes, with your own margin for check-in.

  • Plate rule every day in August
  • Busiest months at the airport
  • Coach times can slip in traffic
🍂

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

High Demand

September keeps the plate rule every day and October on weekends and holidays, until the 31st. Then one notice overrides the rest: Naples Airport will be closed for runway work in November 2026, on dates not yet published. The boat timetable ends on 3 November 2026. The direct coach showed no bookable rides for mid-November when we checked, so a late-autumn departure is a road departure in a booked car.

  • Naples Airport runway closure in November 2026
  • Plate rule ends 31 October
  • Boat timetable ends 3 November 2026

Important Information

The November 2026 Runway Closure
The operator's notice of 21 September 2026 says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and it names no first or last day. If your trip falls in that month, ask your airline which airport the flight uses, and book the transfer to that airport.
Timing the Pickup
The routed drive from Amalfi to Naples Airport takes 68 minutes on a clear road, and operators who drive the road publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes. The airport's check-in desks open 2 hours before domestic and international flights and 3 hours before intercontinental ones, and the terminal opens at 03:30. Settle the pickup time with your carrier from those pieces and your airline's own deadline.
Where the Car Collects You in Amalfi
The town's pick-up area for licensed private-hire cars is Flavio Gioia I, on the seafront, booked by the carrier through the BusPass system: currently €10 for two stops of at most 5 minutes in a day. The limited-traffic zone is the main street inland from Piazza Duomo; taxis and private-hire cars may enter it without parking and must leave within 60 minutes. Be ready with your cases when the car arrives.
Set-Down at Naples Airport
Naples has one terminal. Private-hire cars set down in dedicated temporary bays on the departures road, only for the time it takes to unload. Every car has 15 minutes on the airport roads before a camera-issued fine. The terminal is open 03:30 to 22:30.
Taxis and the €155 Fixed Fare
The €155 fixed fare that guides quote is the Comune di Napoli's tariff for a Naples taxi on a one-way trip to Amalfi. It is not a tariff for a taxi hired in Amalfi, and we found no published Amalfi taxi fare to the airport. A private transfer is quoted per vehicle before you travel, so the number is known before the morning of the flight.
Luggage on the Public Options
The direct coach counts luggage places per ride. The boat carries one bag up to 50x30x15 cm and 5 kg free and checks in anything larger for a fee, and you carry everything again from the port to the Alibus. A private car takes what the vehicle you booked takes; put the number of cases in the booking notes.
The Plate Rule on the Coast Road
On restricted days the SS163 is closed from 10:00 to 18:00 to cars whose plate ends in an odd digit on odd dates and an even digit on even dates. Taxis and licensed private-hire cars are excluded, and outside those hours no car is restricted. In 2026 the rule applies on weekends and holidays from 30 May to the end of July and in October, and every day in August and September.
Child Seats
Carriers provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment. Confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take from Amalfi to Naples Airport by car?
On a clear road the routed drive from Amalfi to Naples Airport takes 68 minutes for about 66 km. Operators who drive the road publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes, and no authority publishes a summer figure. The routed line leaves Amalfi on the coast road for about 2 km, crosses the mountain at Agerola on the SR366, and reaches the airport by the SS145 and the A3 motorway.
How do I get from Amalfi to Naples Airport for an early morning flight?
By pre-booked car. The first direct coach from Amalfi to Naples Airport leaves at 07:20 and arrives at 09:10, and the first boat leaves Amalfi at 08:54 and still needs a bus from the port of Naples, so neither reaches a flight before late morning. Naples Airport's terminal opens at 03:30. A private transfer collects you in Amalfi at the hour your flight needs and sets you down on the departures road.
What time should I leave Amalfi for a flight from Naples Airport?
Work back from your flight. The routed drive from Amalfi to Naples Airport is 68 minutes on a clear road, and operators publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes for the road. Check-in desks at Naples open 2 hours before domestic and international flights and 3 hours before intercontinental ones. Add your airline's bag-drop deadline and a margin for the season, and agree the pickup time with your carrier.
Is there a direct bus from Amalfi to Naples Airport?
Yes. A direct coach runs from Amalfi, Piazza Flavio Gioia, to Naples Airport five times a day, at 07:20, 09:20, 12:50, 15:20 and 17:50 on the dates we checked in October 2026, and takes 1 hour 50 minutes. The first arrives at 09:10, which suits flights from late morning, and the last arrives at 19:40. The operator warns that traffic can delay it, and it showed no bookable rides for mid-November when we checked. A private car leaves at the hour you choose and carries the group for one quoted price.
Can I take the ferry from Amalfi to Naples to catch a flight?
Only for a later flight, and only in season. The boat from Amalfi to Molo Beverello, the hydrofoil pier in Naples, sails at 08:54 and 15:45 every day, with two more sailings from 1 May, costs €32.50 one way, and its 2026 timetable ends on 3 November. From the port the Alibus to Naples Airport takes about 35 minutes and costs €5. That is two legs with your luggage against one in a private car from Amalfi to the departures road.
How much is a taxi from Amalfi to Naples Airport?
There is no published fixed fare from Amalfi that we could find. The €155 figure often quoted is the Comune di Napoli's fixed fare for a Naples taxi travelling one way to Amalfi, and it does not bind a taxi hired in Amalfi. Ask any taxi for the price before you set off. A private transfer through TransferBnB is quoted per vehicle by verified carriers before you travel.
Does the Amalfi Coast plate rule affect a transfer to Naples Airport?
No. Taxis and licensed private-hire cars are excluded from the alternating-plate rule on the SS163, as the Comune di Amalfi states for 2026, and outside 10:00 to 18:00 the rule restricts no car at all. The routed line from Amalfi to Naples Airport also leaves the coast road after about 2 km for the Agerola road, which is outside the rule.
Where does a private driver pick me up in Amalfi?
Licensed private-hire cars pick up in the Flavio Gioia I area on the Amalfi seafront, which the carrier books through the town's BusPass system for stops of at most 5 minutes. Taxis and private-hire cars may also enter the limited-traffic zone inland from Piazza Duomo without parking, leaving within 60 minutes. Agree the exact point with your carrier the day before and be there with your cases.
Where does the driver drop me at Naples Airport?
On the departures road. Naples Airport has one terminal, and private-hire cars set passengers down in dedicated temporary bays on the departures road for the time it takes to unload. Check-in desks are on the ground floor. The terminal is open from 03:30 to 22:30.
Is Naples Airport closed in November 2026?
In November 2026, yes, on dates not yet published. The airport's operator announced on 21 September 2026 that Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and its notice does not give a first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport your flight uses before you book ground transport.
How much does a private transfer from Amalfi to Naples Airport cost?
TransferBnB does not publish a fixed price for Amalfi to Naples Airport. You post the trip with your flight time, passenger count and luggage, and verified carriers send offers per vehicle that you compare before you pay. Ask for the A3 toll, which is €2.30 for a car without a transponder in 2026, and the Amalfi pick-up fee to be stated inside the offer.

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
