Naples Airport will close for runway work in November 2026

The airport's operator says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work. The dates are not yet published: its notice gives the month and no first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport the flight uses before you book a transfer. In every month, the pickup point in Ravello is arranged the day before. Ravello's centre is a set of limited-traffic zones, so a car collects you at your hotel only when the hotel has its entrance inside a zone and reports the transit. Otherwise it meets you at one of the Comune's passenger areas, with an authorisation that must be booked on the Comune's portal by the day before, which your carrier does. The two private-hire bays at Largo Boccaccio are goods bays from 06:00 to 09:30, so an early pickup needs its meeting point agreed in advance.

Airport operator's notice of 21 September 2026; Comune di Ravello, traffic ordinance 26 of 9 August 2025 and delibera 59 of 23 May 2025.

About This Transfer

The car collects you in Ravello, the cases go in once, and it takes the branch road to Tramonti and crosses the Chiunzi pass. At Angri it joins the A3 motorway north past Pompeii, and it comes into Naples Airport by the Capodichino exit of the Tangenziale. Ravello to Naples Airport is about 61 km this way: 72 minutes with a clear road, and operators who drive it publish 1h 10min to 1h 45min.

The time to plan is the check-in desk, not the departure board. At Naples, check-in opens 2 hours before domestic and international flights and 3 hours before intercontinental ones, and the terminal opens at 03:30. Add the drive and the floor is 3 hours 15 minutes before a European flight and 4 hours 15 minutes before an intercontinental one, before any margin for the season.

No bus or coach leaves Ravello for the airport. The public way down is the SITA Sud bus to Amalfi, 25 minutes on its timetable, and the airport coach from the coast road, which in the other direction leaves the airport up to five times a day. That is two vehicles and a change at the roadside before the motorway starts.

For the drive in the other direction, and where a car may stop in Ravello, see our Naples Airport to Ravello page. For the rest of the coast and how the airport works, see the Naples Airport transfers page.

🏛️On the A3, before Naples

Pompeii on your last day

The A3 passes the excavations on the way north, and from there the airport is about 28 km and under 30 minutes away. With an afternoon or evening flight the site fits into the last day. The catch is the luggage: suitcases and bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside, and left luggage at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances is paid. A car that waits with your cases solves it.

⛰️The first stretch out of Ravello

Tramonti and the Chiunzi pass

The road from Ravello joins the Maiori road in the Tramonti area and climbs to the pass on the Lattari mountains, on the border between Tramonti and Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino. From there it drops to the motorway. It is the old way between the coast and the hinterland, and the line the routed drive takes to the airport.

Route Overview

Pickup: Ravello

A hotel with its entrance inside a limited-traffic zone can report your car, and it collects you at the door. Everywhere else the car meets you at one of the Comune's four passenger areas: Largo Boccaccio, Largo Gradillo, the Duomo car park or Piazza San Giovanni del Toro. Largo Boccaccio has two luggage bays for hotel guests with a 15 minute limit, and its two private-hire bays work from 09:30 to 24:00; before that they are goods bays. Agree the point and the time with the carrier the day before.

Popular Pickup Points:

• Largo Boccaccio, by the tunnel to Piazza Duomo
• Largo Gradillo, by Santa Maria a Gradillo
• The Duomo car park
• Piazza San Giovanni del Toro

Drop-off: Naples Airport (NAP) departures

Naples has one terminal with three entrances; Entrance 3, near arrivals, is the one the airport recommends for Air France, KLM and Ryanair. Licensed private-hire cars drop off only in the dedicated temporary bays on the departures road, for the time it takes to unload you and your luggage, and every car has 15 minutes in the airport road zone. The terminal opens at 03:30 and closes at 22:30, and check-in is on the ground floor.

Popular Drop-off Points:

• Departures road, private-hire drop-off bays
• Entrance 3, near arrivals
• Check-in on the ground floor
• Terminal open 03:30 to 22:30

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

🕐

Best Travel Times

Early flights are where the planning goes. The terminal opens at 03:30, and a pickup before 09:30 cannot count on the private-hire bays at Largo Boccaccio, which are goods bays until then. Summer is the busy season at Naples: in 2025 August carried more than twice January's passengers. The 72 minutes is a clear-road figure; the 1h 10min to 1h 45min that operators publish is the range to plan a summer departure against.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

The motorway half of the drive is two lanes each way until Scafati, and the motorway company posts planned night and lane closures week by week, which matters for a pre-dawn run. Carriers who expect the pass to be slow can go down to the coast and join the A3 on the Salerno side instead; a licensed car is exempt from the coast road's plate rule.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

No border. The A3 charges a flat €2.30 for a car in 2026, whatever the distance. The alternating-plate rule covers only the SS163 coast road, from 10:00 to 18:00 on its dates; the Chiunzi road and its Ravello branch are outside it, and taxis and private-hire cars are exempt everywhere. At the airport end, private-hire cars use the dedicated drop-off bays on the departures road.

💡

Carrier Tip

Give the carrier your flight time and whether the flight is domestic, international or intercontinental, and let them set the pickup: check-in opens 2 hours before for the first two and 3 hours before for the third. Tell them the hotel's name and whether its entrance is inside a limited-traffic zone, so they know whether the hotel reports the car or they book a passenger area. If you want to stop at Pompeii, put it in the request so the waiting time is in the offer.

When to Travel This Route

Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.

❄️

Winter (Dec-Feb)

Low Demand

January was the quietest month at Naples Airport in 2025. Ravello's taxi tariff is 20% lower from 15 November until Easter, and the 2026 plate-rule calendar has no winter dates. Ravello's limited-traffic zones apply all year, so the pickup is arranged the same way as in summer.

  • Ravello taxi tariff 20% lower to Easter
  • No plate-rule dates on the coast road
  • Quietest months at the airport
🌸

Spring (Mar-May)

Medium Demand

The Ravello taxi tariff returns to its full rate at Easter. The plate rule is back on the coast road every day from 30 March to 6 April and from 25 April to 2 May 2026, between 10:00 and 18:00. It does not touch the pass, and a licensed car is exempt on the coast road too.

  • Plate rule 30 March to 6 April 2026
  • Plate rule 25 April to 2 May 2026
  • Ravello taxi winter reduction ends at Easter
☀️

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Peak Demand

August was the busiest month at Naples Airport in 2025, with more than twice January's passengers. The plate rule runs on the coast road at weekends and on holidays in June and July and every day in August. Book the transfer with the flight, give the carrier the flight time, and let them set a pickup with a summer margin on top of the check-in floor.

  • Busiest months at the airport
  • Plate rule every day in August
  • Ravello Festival, 4 July to 5 September 2026
🍂

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

High Demand

Autumn 2026 has one notice that overrides the rest: Naples Airport will be closed for runway work in November, on dates not yet published. Before that, the plate rule stays on the coast road every day in September and at weekends and on holidays in October, the last date being Saturday 31 October 2026. From 15 November the Ravello taxi tariff drops by 20% until Easter. The pickup arrangements in Ravello do not change with the month.

  • Plate rule every day in September
  • Plate rule at weekends to 31 October 2026
  • Naples Airport runway closure in November 2026

Important Information

The November 2026 Runway Closure
The operator's notice of 21 September 2026 says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and it names no first or last day. The aviation regulator says the works were moved to November to limit the days of closure. If your trip falls in that month, ask your airline which airport the flight uses, and book the transfer from that airport.
When to Leave Ravello for Your Flight
Work back from the check-in desk. At Naples, check-in opens 2 hours before domestic and international flights and 3 hours before intercontinental ones. The drive is about 1 hour 15 minutes, so the floor is 3 hours 15 minutes before a domestic or international flight and 4 hours 15 minutes before an intercontinental one. Add a margin in summer, give the carrier your flight time and type, and let them set the pickup.
Where the Car Collects You in Ravello
Ravello has seven limited-traffic zones, and the Piazza Duomo one has a camera gate at its Via Boccaccio entrance. A car or taxi serving guests of a hotel with its seat and entrance inside a zone is exempt when the hotel reports the transit. Otherwise the car meets you at Largo Boccaccio, Largo Gradillo, the Duomo car park or Piazza San Giovanni del Toro, with an authorisation your carrier books on the Comune's portal. The private-hire bays at Largo Boccaccio work from 09:30 to 24:00.
The Ravello Taxi Fare to the Airport
The Comune di Ravello sets a fixed taxi fare to Naples Airport: €150 for 1 to 4 people and €170 for 5 to 8. Luggage adds €5 whatever the number of bags, and a ride between 22:00 and 06:00 adds €15, so a pre-dawn run with cases is €170 for up to four people and €190 for a larger group. The fixed fare applies only if you make no stop on the way, not even for a photograph; otherwise the meter runs. From 15 November until Easter the tariff is 20% lower.
Drop-Off at Naples Airport Departures
Naples has one terminal with three entrances, and Entrance 3, near arrivals, is recommended for Air France, KLM and Ryanair. Licensed private-hire cars may stop on the departures road only in the dedicated temporary bays, for the time it takes to unload you and your luggage. Every car has 15 minutes in the airport road zone. Check-in is on the ground floor.
Luggage from a Car-Free Centre
Unless your hotel can clear the car to its door, the cases have to reach the passenger area before you do. The Comune licenses electric carts for luggage inside the zones, and hotels are among the businesses allowed to run them, so ask your hotel the evening before whether it brings the bags down. Put the number of cases in the booking notes so the vehicle is sized for them.
Child Seats
Carriers provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment. Confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take from Ravello to Naples Airport?
About 1 hour 15 minutes by car. The routed drive is 61 km and takes 72 minutes with a clear road, over the Chiunzi pass and then north on the A3 motorway, and operators who drive it publish 1h 10min to 1h 45min depending on the route and the traffic. Allow longer in summer. A private transfer starts at your hotel or the nearest set-down point in Ravello and ends at the departures road.
How much is a taxi from Ravello to Naples Airport?
The Comune di Ravello sets a fixed fare: €150 for 1 to 4 people and €170 for 5 to 8, per car, one way. Luggage adds €5 and a ride between 22:00 and 06:00 adds €15, and the fixed fare falls away if you ask for a stop on the way. From 15 November until Easter the tariff is 20% lower. The €160 figure that circulates is the Comune di Napoli's fare for Naples taxis going to Ravello, a different table. Four people sharing the €150 pay €37.50 each before supplements. A private transfer is quoted as one total per vehicle before you travel, stops included if you ask for them.
How early should I leave Ravello for a flight from Naples?
Work back from check-in. At Naples, check-in desks open 2 hours before domestic and international flights and 3 hours before intercontinental flights, and the drive from Ravello is about 1 hour 15 minutes with a clear road. That puts the floor at 3 hours 15 minutes before a domestic or international departure and 4 hours 15 minutes before an intercontinental one. Add a margin in summer. A carrier who has your flight time will propose the pickup.
Is there a bus from Ravello to Naples Airport?
Not a direct one. The SITA Sud bus goes down to Amalfi in 25 minutes on its timetable, and the airport coach runs from the coast; in the other direction it leaves the airport up to five times a day and takes 1 hour 50 minutes to Amalfi on its timetable. The coach also stops at the Castiglione junction on the coast road below Ravello, which a Ravello taxi reaches for a fixed €30 for up to four people, plus €5 for luggage. A private transfer does the journey in one vehicle from your hotel or the nearest set-down.
Can a car pick me up at my hotel in Ravello?
Only if the hotel is inside a limited-traffic zone and reports your car. Ravello has seven such zones, Piazza Duomo among them. Cars and taxis serving guests of a hotel with its entrance inside a zone are exempt when the hotel reports the transit. Otherwise the car meets you at Largo Boccaccio, Largo Gradillo, the Duomo car park or Piazza San Giovanni del Toro, and the carrier books the stop on the Comune's portal in advance.
Can I be picked up in Ravello before dawn for an early flight?
Yes, with the meeting point agreed the day before. Naples Airport opens its terminal at 03:30, and a car can collect you in Ravello at whatever hour the flight needs. Two details matter: the private-hire bays at Largo Boccaccio are goods bays from 06:00 to 09:30, and a hotel inside a limited-traffic zone has to report the car. A Ravello taxi adds €15 to its fixed fare between 22:00 and 06:00.
Does the Amalfi Coast plate rule affect the drive from Ravello to Naples Airport?
Not over the pass. The alternating-plate rule covers only the SS163 coast road, between 10:00 and 18:00 on its dates, and the Chiunzi pass road with its Ravello branch is outside it. Ravello is one of the towns on the restricted stretch of coast road, so a hire car going down to the coast is affected, except on your check-in and check-out days with a hotel booking. Taxis and licensed private-hire cars are exempt on every road.
Can I visit Pompeii on the way from Ravello to Naples Airport?
Yes, if your flight is in the afternoon or evening. The A3 passes the excavations, and the airport is about 28 km further on. Suitcases and bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside, and left luggage at Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro is paid, so a private car that waits with your cases is the simplest way. Put the stop in your request so the waiting time is in the offer. On the Ravello taxi tariff a stop ends the fixed fare.
Where does a private transfer drop off at Naples Airport?
On the departures road, in the dedicated temporary bays for licensed private-hire cars, for the time it takes to unload passengers and luggage. Naples has one terminal with three entrances, and the airport recommends Entrance 3, near arrivals, for Air France, KLM and Ryanair. Check-in is on the ground floor, and the terminal opens at 03:30 and closes at 22:30.
Is Naples Airport closed in November 2026?
In November 2026, yes, on dates not yet published. The airport's operator announced on 21 September 2026 that Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and its notice does not give a first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport your flight uses before you book ground transport.
How much does a private transfer from Ravello to Naples Airport cost?
TransferBnB does not publish a fixed price for this route. You post the trip with your flight time, hotel, passenger count and luggage, and verified carriers send offers per vehicle that you compare before you pay. For context, the Comune di Ravello's fixed taxi fare to the airport is €150 for up to four people, plus €5 for luggage. The offer should state the pickup point, the pickup time and whether the A3 toll is included.

Why Book This Route?

  • •Collected at the hour your flight needs, with the Ravello meeting point agreed the day before rather than found on the morning
  • •One total agreed before you travel, where the Ravello taxi adds €5 for luggage and €15 before 06:00 to its fixed fare
  • •A stop at Pompeii can be part of the offer, where a stop ends the taxi's fixed fare
  • •The carrier books the Ravello passenger-stop authorisation, or works with your hotel if its entrance is inside a limited-traffic zone
  • •Verified carriers compete for the job, and you see the vehicle and the confirmed total before you pay

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
