Naples Airport will close for runway work in November 2026

The airport's operator says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work. The dates are not yet published: its notice gives the month and no first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport the flight uses before you book a transfer. At the other end, Ravello's centre is closed to cars all year. Piazza Duomo and the streets off it are a limited-traffic zone, one of seven in Ravello, with a camera gate at its Via Boccaccio entrance. As a rule only residents and property owners with a permit drive in. A car serving guests of a hotel that has its entrance inside a zone is exempt when the hotel reports the transit. Other transfer cars set passengers down at one of the Comune's passenger areas at the edge of the centre, with a stop booked on the Comune's portal by the day before, which your carrier does.

Airport operator's notice of 21 September 2026; Comune di Ravello, traffic ordinance 26 of 9 August 2025 and delibera 59 of 23 May 2025.

About This Transfer

Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Naples, loads the cases once, and takes the A3 motorway south past Pompeii. At Angri the car leaves the motorway and climbs the provincial road over the Chiunzi pass into Tramonti, where the road forks and the gentler branch runs on to Ravello. Naples Airport to Ravello is about 61 km this way: 71 minutes with a clear road, and operators who drive it publish 1h 10min to 1h 45min.

This line never touches the Amalfi Coast road. The routed drive is the A3 for about 27 km and then about 23 km of provincial road, and the alternating-plate rule that restricts cars on the SS163 does not apply to the pass or to its Ravello branch. A licensed private-hire car is exempt from that rule in any case, so a carrier is free to come up from the coast on the Salerno side instead when that suits the day.

The last stretch is where Ravello differs from the towns below it. The cathedral square and the lanes around it are a limited-traffic zone, so the car stops at a passenger area on the edge of the centre: Largo Boccaccio by the tunnel to Piazza Duomo, the square in front of Santa Maria a Gradillo, the Duomo car park or Piazza San Giovanni del Toro. Give the carrier your hotel's name and it will know which one, and whether the hotel can clear the car to the door.

No bus or coach runs from the airport to Ravello itself. The airport coach to Amalfi stops at the Castiglione junction on the coast road below the town, 1 hour 45 minutes out on its timetable, and you still have the hill to climb. For the other towns on the coast, and where the driver meets you at Capodichino, see our Naples Airport transfers page. The airport transfers page explains how carriers quote and what group size does to the offer.

🏛️About 28 km from the airport

Pompeii

The A3 passes the excavations under 30 minutes after the airport, before this route's own exit. Tickets are personal and capped at 20,000 entries a day. Suitcases and bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside, and left luggage at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances is paid. A car that waits with the cases is the simple way to stop here on arrival day; put the stop in your request so the waiting time is in the offer.

The Chiunzi pass and Tramonti

The pass crosses the Lattari mountains between Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino and Tramonti, and it has long been the way from the plain to the coast. After it the road forks: the main branch drops to Maiori, and a gentler one with long views runs to Ravello. That second branch is the one this transfer takes.

Villa Rufolo

The villa and its gardens open off the cathedral square, inside the limited-traffic zone, so you reach them on foot from wherever the car sets you down. In October 2026 the villa posts opening from 09:00 to 19:00 every day, last entry 18:30, at €8. From 4 July to 5 September 2026 it hosted the Ravello Festival, and it warns that closing times can change on concert days.

Route Overview

Pickup: Naples Airport (NAP)

Naples has one terminal, so there is only one arrivals hall to find your driver in. A private car is not a taxi and does not use the taxi rank in front of arrivals. The airport gives any other car 15 minutes on its roads before a camera-issued fine of €80 to €318, and its P1 car park has the first 45 minutes free, which is where a driver waiting for a delayed flight can park. The airport reserves separate areas for licensed private-hire cars but does not publish where they are. Confirm the exact meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat before you fly.

Popular Pickup Points:

• The single arrivals hall
• P1 car park for a waiting driver
• Licensed private-hire pick-up areas
• Terminal open 03:30 to 22:30

Drop-off: Ravello

The Comune names four passenger areas for private-hire cars: Largo Boccaccio, Largo Gradillo, the Duomo car park and Piazza San Giovanni del Toro. Largo Boccaccio, beside the taxi rank and the tunnel to Piazza Duomo, has two private-hire bays from 09:30 to 24:00 and two luggage bays for hotel guests with a 15 minute limit. Each stop needs an authorisation booked on the Comune's portal by the day before, which your carrier does. If your hotel has its entrance inside a limited-traffic zone, the hotel can report the car and it drives to the door.

Popular Drop-off Points:

• Largo Boccaccio, by the tunnel to Piazza Duomo
• Largo Gradillo, by Santa Maria a Gradillo
• The Duomo car park
• Piazza San Giovanni del Toro

🕐

Best Travel Times

Summer is the busy side of the year at Naples Airport: in 2025 August was its busiest month and January its quietest, with more than twice the passengers. The 71 minutes is a clear-road figure, and the range operators publish for this drive, 1h 10min to 1h 45min, is the honest guide for a summer afternoon. A car that reaches Ravello before 09:30 has one thing to check, because the two private-hire bays at Largo Boccaccio are goods bays until then.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

After Pompeii the A3 narrows to two lanes each way, and the motorway company posts its planned night and lane closures week by week. The other way in is the coast road from the Salerno side, which is the stretch the plate rule exists for; carriers choose between the two on the day.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

No border. The A3 charges a flat €2.30 for a car in 2026, whatever the distance. The alternating-plate rule covers only the SS163 coast road, where Ravello is one of the towns on the restricted stretch; the Chiunzi road and its Ravello branch are outside it, and taxis and private-hire cars are exempt from it everywhere. In Ravello itself, no vehicle over 3 m high or 6 m long may drive on into Viale Parco della Rimembranza, past the Gradillo set-down, and a vehicle over 6 m needs the hotel to request its authorisation at least 48 hours ahead.

💡

Carrier Tip

Give the carrier the hotel's name and street, not just Ravello, and ask the hotel whether its entrance is inside a limited-traffic zone. If it is, the hotel reports the car; if it is not, ask which passenger area is nearest and whether someone meets you there for the bags. Groups should say how many seats they need early: the stop fee changes above 9 seats or 5.30 m, and above 6 m the hotel has to request the authorisation 48 hours ahead.

  • Flight monitoring, so a late landing moves the pickup rather than losing the car
  • Luggage loaded once at the airport and unloaded at the set-down point in Ravello
  • The A3 toll stated in the offer, so it is not a surprise
  • The Ravello passenger-stop authorisation booked by the carrier, by the day before as the ordinance asks
  • The set-down point agreed in advance, or the hotel's clearance if its entrance is inside a limited-traffic zone
  • Child seats on request, with each child's age in the booking notes

When to Travel This Route

Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.

❄️

Winter (Dec-Feb)

Low Demand

January was the quietest month at Naples Airport in 2025. The 2026 plate-rule calendar has no winter dates, so the coast road is open to every car. Ravello's limited-traffic zones apply all year, with the same booked set-down in January as in August; the Comune's parking and stop fees are halved from 1 November to 31 March.

  • Quietest months at the airport
  • No plate-rule dates on the coast road
  • Ravello's traffic zones unchanged
🌸

Spring (Mar-May)

Medium Demand

The plate rule returns to the coast road for two spring windows in 2026: every day from 30 March to 6 April and from 25 April to 2 May, between 10:00 and 18:00. It does not touch the pass, and a licensed car is exempt on the coast road too. Hire-car drivers coming up from the coast are the ones who have to check the date.

  • Plate rule 30 March to 6 April 2026
  • Plate rule 25 April to 2 May 2026
  • Pass road outside the rule
☀️

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Peak Demand

August was the busiest month at Naples Airport in 2025, with more than twice January's passengers. On the coast road the plate rule runs at weekends and on holidays in June and July and every day in August. In Ravello, Villa Rufolo hosted the Ravello Festival from 4 July to 5 September in 2026. Book the transfer when you book the flight, and give the carrier the hotel's name so the set-down is booked in time.

  • Busiest months at the airport
  • Ravello Festival, 4 July to 5 September 2026
  • Plate rule every day in August
🍂

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

High Demand

Autumn 2026 has one notice that overrides the rest: Naples Airport will be closed for runway work in November, on dates not yet published. Before that, September keeps the plate rule on the coast road every day, and October keeps it at weekends and on holidays, the last date being Saturday 31 October 2026. In 2026 the Ravello Festival ran to 5 September. A licensed car is exempt throughout, by the pass or by the coast.

  • Plate rule every day in September
  • Plate rule at weekends to 31 October 2026
  • Naples Airport runway closure in November 2026

Important Information

The November 2026 Runway Closure
The operator's notice of 21 September 2026 says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and it names no first or last day. The aviation regulator says the works were moved to November to limit the days of closure. If your trip falls in that month, ask your airline which airport the flight uses, and book the transfer from that airport.
Meeting Your Driver at Naples Airport
Naples has one terminal and one arrivals hall. Your driver meets you there, not at the taxi rank in front of arrivals. The airport gives a car 15 minutes on its roads before a camera-issued fine of €80 to €318, and the P1 car park has the first 45 minutes free, so a driver waiting for a delayed flight parks there. The airport reserves separate pick-up areas for licensed private-hire cars but does not publish where they are, so confirm the meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat before you fly.
Where the Car Stops in Ravello
Ravello has seven limited-traffic zones, and the Piazza Duomo one has a camera gate at its Via Boccaccio entrance. Private-hire cars set passengers down at Largo Boccaccio, Largo Gradillo, the Duomo car park or Piazza San Giovanni del Toro, each with an authorisation booked on the Comune's portal by the day before, which your carrier does. The fee is the carrier's: €8 or €10 for a vehicle of up to 9 seats, depending on the area, from 1 April to 31 October and half that in the rest of the year, and nothing when the passengers are staying in Ravello accommodation, though the booking is still compulsory.
Hotels Inside a Limited-Traffic Zone
A car or taxi serving the guests of a hotel with its seat and entrance inside a zone is exempt from the ban, on one condition: the hotel reports the transit and enters your booking reference. That is the hotel's step, not the driver's. Ask the hotel before you travel whether it does this, and pass the answer to the carrier.
The Naples Fixed Taxi Fare to Ravello
The Comune di Napoli sets a fixed taxi fare of €160 per car to Ravello, one way, day or night, the dearest coast destination in its table. It includes the airport, night, holiday and luggage supplements, and excludes motorway tolls and a €5 minivan supplement for more than 4 passengers or a 7 to 9 seat car. You must ask for the fixed fare at the start of the ride; the driver cannot refuse it, and the meter then shows F0.00.
Luggage in a Town with No Cars
From the set-down point you walk. The Comune licenses electric carts for goods and luggage inside the zones, and hotels are among the businesses allowed to run them, so ask your hotel whether it collects bags from the car. Put the number of cases in the booking notes so the vehicle is sized for them.
Child Seats
Carriers provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment. Confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.
If Your Flight Is Delayed
Your carrier monitors the flight and moves the pickup to match. The terminal closes at 22:30. Give the carrier your flight number and confirm what waiting time is included, and tell the hotel if the new arrival time changes who meets you at the set-down point.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take from Naples Airport to Ravello by car?
About 1 hour 15 minutes. The routed drive is 61 km and takes 71 minutes with a clear road, by the A3 motorway and the Chiunzi pass, and operators who drive it publish 1h 10min to 1h 45min depending on the route and the traffic. A private transfer ends at the edge of Ravello's car-free centre, or at your hotel if the hotel can clear the car into its zone.
Which road does a driver take from Naples Airport to Ravello?
Usually the A3 motorway south past Pompeii to Angri, then the provincial road over the Chiunzi pass and through Tramonti, where a branch runs on to Ravello. That is about 27 km of motorway and about 23 km of mountain road, and it uses none of the Amalfi Coast road. The alternative is to stay on the A3 and come up from the coast on the Salerno side. A carrier picks between them on the day.
How much is a taxi from Naples Airport to Ravello?
The Comune di Napoli sets a fixed taxi fare of €160 per car from Naples to Ravello, one way, valid day and night. It includes the airport, night, holiday and luggage supplements, and excludes motorway tolls and a €5 minivan supplement for more than 4 passengers. Ask for the fixed fare at the start of the ride; the driver cannot refuse it, and the meter shows F0.00. Four people sharing it pay €40 each before tolls. A private transfer is quoted per vehicle before you fly, with the Ravello set-down arranged in advance.
Is there a direct bus from Naples Airport to Ravello?
No. The airport coach to the Amalfi Coast has no stop in Ravello: it calls at the Castiglione junction on the coast road below the town, 1 hour 45 minutes from the airport on its timetable, and continues to Amalfi. From the junction a Ravello taxi has a fixed fare of €30 for up to four people, plus €5 for luggage, or you ride on to Amalfi and take the SITA Sud bus up, 25 minutes. A private transfer does the whole journey in one vehicle.
Can a car drive into the centre of Ravello and drop me at my hotel?
Only if the hotel is inside a limited-traffic zone and reports your car. Ravello has seven such zones, Piazza Duomo among them, and as a rule only residents and property owners with a permit drive in. Cars and taxis serving guests of a hotel with its entrance inside a zone are exempt when the hotel reports the transit. Otherwise the car sets you down at Largo Boccaccio, Largo Gradillo, the Duomo car park or Piazza San Giovanni del Toro, with a stop your carrier books on the Comune's portal by the day before.
Does the Amalfi Coast plate rule apply on the road to Ravello?
Not on the usual route. The alternating-plate rule covers only the SS163 coast road, between 10:00 and 18:00 on the restricted dates, and the Chiunzi pass road with its branch to Ravello is outside it. Ravello is one of the towns on the restricted stretch, so a hire car coming up from the coast road is affected, except on your check-in and check-out days with a hotel booking. Taxis and licensed private-hire cars are exempt on every road.
Where do I meet my driver at Naples Airport?
In the arrivals hall. Naples has one terminal, so there is only one. The taxi rank in front of arrivals is for taxis, and the airport reserves separate pick-up areas for licensed private-hire cars without publishing where they are, so confirm the exact meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat. Any other car may stay on the airport roads for only 15 minutes, which is why a driver waiting for a delayed flight parks in the P1 car park, free for the first 45 minutes.
Should I hire a car to get from Naples Airport to Ravello?
You can, but the car is of little use once you arrive. A hire car enters a limited-traffic zone only if your hotel is inside one and reports it. From 1 April to 31 October the public car park west of Piazza Duomo costs €5 an hour from 08:00 to 24:00, €2.50 an hour overnight, or €40 for 24 hours, and half those rates in the rest of the year. On the coast road below, the alternating-plate rule bans half of all private cars between 10:00 and 18:00 on its dates, apart from hotel guests on check-in and check-out day. A private transfer is exempt from the plate rule and leaves no car to park.
Can I stop at Pompeii on the way from Naples Airport to Ravello?
Yes. The A3 passes the excavations about 28 km from the airport, before the turn for the pass. Suitcases and bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside the site, and left luggage at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances is paid, so a private car waiting with your cases is the easy answer. Agree the waiting time in the offer when you book.
Is Naples Airport closed in November 2026?
In November 2026, yes, on dates not yet published. The airport's operator announced on 21 September 2026 that Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and its notice does not give a first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport your flight uses before you book ground transport.
How much does a private transfer from Naples Airport to Ravello cost?
TransferBnB does not publish a fixed price for this route. You post the trip with your flight, passenger count, luggage and hotel, and verified carriers send offers per vehicle that you compare before you pay. For context, the Comune di Napoli's fixed taxi fare to Ravello is €160 per car, tolls extra, with a €5 minivan supplement over 4 passengers. The offer should state whether the A3 toll is included.

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
