Naples Airport will close for runway work in November 2026

The airport's operator says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work. The dates are not yet published: its notice gives the month and no first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport the flight uses before you book a transfer. Salerno has its own airport, about 20 km from the city, run by the same company.

Operator's notice dated 21 September 2026. Check aeroportodinapoli.it for the dates.

About This Transfer

Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Naples, the cases go into the car once, and the next time you lift them is at your door in Salerno. Naples Airport to Salerno is about 60 km and about 56 minutes in free-flowing traffic: a short link out of the airport, then the A3 motorway past Pompeii and Vietri sul Mare to the end of the line. The car stops where you are going, which in Salerno may be a ferry pier or the cruise quay rather than a hotel.

Salerno has an airport of its own. Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento Airport is about 20 km from the city, against about 60 km from Naples, and the same company runs both. If your airline flies there, it is the nearer airport. This page is for the flight that lands at Naples.

The train is the strong alternative on this route, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. No train leaves the airport, so the journey starts with the Alibus to Napoli Centrale, €5 and 15 minutes. From there Trenitalia ran 38 to 45 direct trains a day to Salerno on the days we sampled, most in 38 to 50 minutes, with a regional fare of €5.80. That is €10.80 a person and 53 minutes of riding before any waiting. One traveller with one bag, landing in the daytime and sleeping near the station, should take it.

The catch is everything around those 53 minutes.

There is a bus to wait for, a station to cross with the cases, a train to wait for, and then Salerno station, which is where the train stops and your hotel may not be. Four people pay €43.20 for it and still carry every bag through two interchanges. A private car is quoted per vehicle and goes to the door. For the other towns on this coast, and how arrivals work at Capodichino, see our Naples Airport transfers page. If you are joining a ship, the cruise port transfers page covers transfers to and from the ship.

💡 Stop requests: Most carriers on this route are happy to make short stops at viewpoints or towns. Mention it when booking or ask your driver directly.
🏛️About 28 km from the airport

Pompeii

The excavated Roman city sits beside the A3, under half an hour from the airport in free-flowing traffic, and it is the one stop on this drive worth planning a day around. Tickets are personal and capped at 20,000 entries a day. Bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside, and left luggage at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances is paid. A car that waits with the cases solves that; agree the waiting time with your carrier when you book.

🌊The last A3 junction before Salerno

Vietri sul Mare

The first town of the Amalfi Coast has its own junction on the motorway, just before Salerno. It is also where the SS163 coast road begins, the 40 km to Positano that fall under the alternating-plate rule on restricted days. If the coast is where you are staying, say so in the request: the car can leave the motorway here instead of going into the city.

The Lungomare Trieste and the two harbours

Salerno's seafront promenade runs between its two harbours. At one end is the Porto Masuccio Salernitano, entered from Piazza della Concordia, where the boats to the Amalfi Coast tie up. At the other is the commercial port, with the cruise terminal on Molo Manfredi. They are easy to confuse on a ticket and are not the same stop for a car.

Route Overview

Pickup: Naples Airport (NAP)

Naples has one terminal, so there is only one arrivals hall to find your driver in. A private car is not a taxi and does not use the taxi rank in front of arrivals. The airport gives any other car 15 minutes on its roads before a camera-issued fine of €80 to €318, and its P1 car park has the first 45 minutes free, which is where a driver waiting for a delayed flight can park. The airport reserves separate areas for licensed private-hire cars but does not publish where they are. Confirm the exact meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat before you fly.

Popular Pickup Points:

• The single arrivals hall
• P1 car park for a waiting driver
• Licensed private-hire pick-up areas
• Airport closed 22:30 to 03:30

Drop-off: Salerno

Tell the carrier which Salerno you mean. The railway station is on Piazza Vittorio Veneto. One ferry pier for the Amalfi Coast boats is at Piazza della Concordia, about 540 m from the station by road. The cruise terminal, and the other ferry pier, are on Molo Manfredi in the commercial port, 2.4 km from the station, with its road gate at the end of the street of the same name. A ferry ticket names its pier, and a car can take you to the right one.

Popular Drop-off Points:

• Your hotel or apartment address
• Piazza della Concordia ferry pier
• Molo Manfredi cruise terminal
• Salerno railway station

Local Route Knowledge

Practical intelligence from carriers who drive this route regularly.

🕐

Best Travel Times

Summer is the busy side of the year at Naples Airport: in 2025 August was its busiest month and January its quietest, with more than twice the passengers. The 56 minutes on this page is a free-flow figure, and no authority publishes a peak-hour one, so leave your carrier room on a summer afternoon.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

The A3 carries about 180,000 vehicles a day by its operator's count. It has three lanes each way from Naples to Scafati and two each way from Scafati to Salerno, so the later part of this drive is the narrower one. The operator posts planned night and lane closures week by week, which matters for a late landing.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

No border, and no Amalfi Coast plate rule on the way to Salerno: the drive is the A3, not the coast road. The A3 toll is a flat €2.30 for a car in 2026 and €2.40 for a van or minibus, whatever the distance. The plate rule starts where the SS163 does, at Vietri sul Mare. If you go on from Salerno to Amalfi or Positano by road, it applies from 10:00 to 18:00 on restricted days, and taxis and licensed private-hire cars are exempt.

💡

Carrier Tip

Name the drop: a street address, the Piazza della Concordia pier, the Molo Manfredi cruise terminal or the station. If the coast is your real destination, ask for that instead. Naples Airport straight to Amalfi is 65.3 km and 66 minutes in free flow by the Agerola road, while Salerno station to Amalfi is another 24.7 km and 27 minutes on the coast road after the 60 km to Salerno.

Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.

Winter (Dec-Feb)

Low Demand

January was the quietest month at Naples Airport in 2025. The port authority gives the Amalfi Coast ferry season from Salerno as March to November, so check any winter sailing with the ferry line before you plan around it. The 08:45 regional bus from the airport does not run from 23 December to 6 January, which leaves only the 16:00 on working days over the holidays.

  • Morning regional bus off 23 December to 6 January
  • Coast ferries out of season, per the port authority
  • Quietest months at the airport
🌸

Spring (Mar-May)

Medium Demand

The ferries from Salerno to Amalfi and Positano come back in March, on the port authority's calendar. If you are sailing, the pier is the drop-off to name: Piazza della Concordia is about 540 m from the station by road and Molo Manfredi is 2.4 km from it, so they are not interchangeable.

  • Coast ferries from March
  • Name the pier on the booking
  • Airport traffic rising toward summer
☀️

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Peak Demand

August was the busiest month at Naples Airport in 2025, with more than twice January's passengers. The airport warns that suburban bus times are approximate and longer in high season, and the car shares the same motorway. Book the transfer when you book the flight, and give the carrier the flight number so a delay moves the pickup.

  • Busiest months at the airport
  • Bus times approximate in high season
  • Coast road plate rule on restricted days
🍂

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

High Demand

Autumn 2026 has one notice that overrides the rest: Naples Airport will be closed for runway work in November, the third-quietest month of 2025, on dates not yet published. Before that, the 2026 season of the coast road plate rule ends on 31 October, and the port authority's ferry season runs to November.

Important Information

Meeting Your Driver at Naples Airport
Naples has one terminal and one arrivals hall. Your driver meets you there, not at the taxi rank in front of arrivals. The airport gives a car 15 minutes on its roads before a camera-issued fine of €80 to €318, and the P1 car park has the first 45 minutes free, so a driver waiting for a delayed flight parks there. The airport reserves separate pick-up areas for licensed private-hire cars but does not publish where they are, so confirm the meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat before you fly.
The November 2026 Runway Closure
The operator's notice of 21 September 2026 says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and it names no first or last day. The aviation regulator says the works were moved to November to limit the days of closure. If your trip falls in that month, ask your airline which airport the flight uses, and book the transfer from that airport.
Naples or Salerno Airport
Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento Airport is about 20 km from Salerno; Naples Airport is about 60 km. The same company runs both, and a bus links the Salerno airport with Salerno railway station in 40 minutes. If your airline flies to Salerno, that is the nearer airport for the city. If it flies to Naples, this is the drive.
Taxis: No Fixed Fare to Salerno
The Comune di Napoli publishes fixed taxi fares to Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Salerno is not in the table, so a Naples taxi to Salerno runs on the meter, and motorway tolls are extra. Ask the driver what the meter will come to before you set off. A private transfer is quoted as one total per vehicle before you fly.
The Ferry Pier and the Cruise Quay Are Different Places
Boats to the Amalfi Coast use two piers in Salerno. One is at Piazza della Concordia, in the Porto Masuccio Salernitano, about 540 m by road from the railway station; a ferry line describes it as a 7 minute walk. The other is Molo Manfredi in the commercial port, 2.4 km from the station, which is also where cruise ships berth. Check which one your ticket names and give it to the carrier.
Luggage on the Public Options
On the train route you handle the cases yourself at every step: onto the Alibus, across Napoli Centrale, onto the train and out at Salerno station. SITA Sud charges €1.50 for each extra bag on its buses. A private car takes what the vehicle you booked takes, so put the number of cases in the booking notes.
If Your Flight Lands Late
Give the carrier your flight number and a delay moves the pickup with it. The airport closes at 22:30. Of the public options, the regional bus stops first: its last run from the airport is at 16:00, Monday to Friday. The Alibus leaves the airport until 00:00, and on the days we sampled direct trains left Napoli Centrale for Salerno until after 23:00, which still ends at the station.
Child Seats
Carriers provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment. Confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take from Naples Airport to Salerno by car?
About 56 minutes in free-flowing traffic for about 60 km, measured from the arrivals kerb to Salerno railway station. The drive is the A3 motorway almost all the way, past Pompeii and Vietri sul Mare. No authority publishes a peak-hour time, so allow longer on a summer afternoon. A private transfer ends at your address, the ferry pier or the cruise terminal rather than at the station.
Is there a train from Naples Airport to Salerno?
Not from the airport itself. Take the Alibus to Napoli Centrale, €5 and 15 minutes, then a direct train: on the days we sampled in October 2026 Trenitalia ran 38 to 45 a day, most taking 38 to 50 minutes, with a regional fare of €5.80, Intercity at €9.50 and Frecciarossa from €10.90 to €23.00. That is €10.80 a person on the regional train and 53 minutes of riding before any waiting. It ends at Salerno station; a private transfer ends at your door.
Is there a direct bus from Naples Airport to Salerno?
Yes. The regional SITA Sud line leaves the airport at 08:45 and 16:00, Monday to Friday only, costs €5.50 and reaches the Vinciprova bus terminal in Salerno 70 to 80 minutes later. The 18:35 often quoted as the last bus is the time a bus from Salerno arrives at the airport, not a departure. The airport also lists other bus and coach lines with a Salerno stop. All of them board at the P Bus area next to car park P1, and none of them goes to your hotel.
How much is a taxi from Naples Airport to Salerno?
There is no fixed fare. The Comune di Napoli sets fixed taxi fares to Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, and Salerno is not in the table, so the ride is metered and motorway tolls are extra. Ask the driver for the expected total before you set off. A private transfer is quoted per vehicle before you fly, sized to your group and luggage.
Should I fly to Naples or Salerno Airport for Salerno?
Salerno's own airport is nearer. Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento Airport is about 20 km from the city, with a bus to Salerno railway station in 40 minutes, while Naples Airport is about 60 km away. The same company runs both. Choose by where your airline flies: if it lands at Naples, a private car covers the 60 km in about 56 minutes in free-flowing traffic.
Is Naples Airport closed in November 2026?
In November 2026, yes, on dates not yet published. The airport's operator announced on 21 September 2026 that Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and its notice does not give a first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport your flight uses before you book ground transport.
Where do the Amalfi Coast ferries leave from in Salerno?
From two piers. One is at Piazza della Concordia, in the Porto Masuccio Salernitano, about 540 m by road from Salerno railway station. The other is Molo Manfredi in the commercial port, 2.4 km from the station, which is also the cruise terminal. The port authority gives the season for boats to Amalfi and Positano as March to November. Your ticket names the pier, and a private transfer from Naples Airport can drop you at it.
Is it better to go to Amalfi through Salerno or straight from Naples Airport?
By road, straight from the airport. Naples Airport to Amalfi is 65.3 km and 66 minutes in free-flowing traffic, while going through Salerno is about 60 km to the station plus another 24.7 km and 27 minutes on the SS163 coast road. Salerno makes sense when you want the ferry, which runs from March to November on the port authority's calendar. On restricted days the coast road is under an alternating-plate rule from 10:00 to 18:00; taxis and licensed private-hire cars are exempt.
Where do I meet my driver at Naples Airport?
In the arrivals hall. Naples has one terminal, so there is only one. The taxi rank in front of arrivals is for taxis, and the airport reserves separate pick-up areas for licensed private-hire cars without publishing where they are, so confirm the exact meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat. Any other car may stay on the airport roads for only 15 minutes, which is why a driver waiting for a delayed flight parks in the P1 car park, free for the first 45 minutes.
How much does a private transfer from Naples Airport to Salerno cost?
TransferBnB does not publish a fixed price for this route. You post the trip with your flight, passenger count, luggage and the exact drop-off, and verified carriers send offers per vehicle that you compare before you pay. The offer should state whether the motorway toll is included.

Why Book This Route?

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
