Naples Airport will close for runway work in November 2026

The airport's operator says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work. The dates are not yet published: its notice gives the month and no first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport the flight uses before you book a transfer. In every other month the thing to know is the coast road plate rule, which bans cars by the last digit of the plate between 10:00 and 18:00 in season: taxis and licensed private-hire cars are excluded from it, in the Comune di Amalfi's own words for 2026.

Operator's notice dated 21 September 2026. Check aeroportodinapoli.it for the dates.

About This Transfer

Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Naples, the cases go into the car once, and you leave the airport for the motorway south. Naples Airport to Amalfi is about 65 km. The routed line takes the A1 link to the A3, about 18 km of the A3 past Pompeii, a short stretch of the SS145, then about 28 km of the SR366 over Agerola, and drops onto the coast road for about the last 2 km into town. The car sets you down by the seafront at Piazza Flavio Gioia, or closer to your hotel where the street allows it.

That is not the road most guides describe. They send the car along the coast through Positano, which is not on the way, or in from Vietri sul Mare through Maiori and Minori, which is the line the coach takes. A carrier may still choose the Vietri side on the day.

On a clear road the routed drive takes 66 minutes. Operators who drive it publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes, and no authority publishes a summer figure at all, so plan a dinner booking or a boat connection on the operators' range, not on the map.

The public options are real. A direct coach leaves the airport five times a day and reaches Amalfi in 1 hour 50 minutes, and from April to early November a boat sails from the port of Naples. Both work for one or two people with light bags on a daytime flight. For the other towns on the coast, and where the driver meets you at Capodichino, see our Naples Airport transfers page. The airport transfers page explains how carriers quote and what group size does to the offer.

✓ A3 motorway, then the SR366 over Agerola

💡 Stop requests: Most carriers on this route are happy to make short stops at viewpoints or towns. Mention it when booking or ask your driver directly.
🏛️About 28 km from the airport

Pompeii

The excavated Roman city sits beside the A3, under half an hour from the airport on a clear road, and it is the one stop on this drive worth planning around. Tickets are personal and capped at 20,000 entries a day. Suitcases and bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside, and left luggage at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances is paid. If you stop on the way, agree the waiting time and the luggage plan with your carrier when you book.

The Agerola road

The SR366 leaves the SS145, crosses the mountain at Agerola and comes down to the coast road about 2 km from the centre of Amalfi. It is the longest single stretch of the drive and the reason the car spends so little time on the coast road, and the coast comuni name it as a road with no plate restriction.

Amalfi seafront and the old town

Amalfi's limited-traffic zone is the main street running inland from Piazza Duomo. The seafront square, Piazza Flavio Gioia, is outside it, and that is where the town's set-down area for licensed cars is. Inside the old town the Comune's shuttle bus is the only public transport allowed, and public lifts reach parts of town that are otherwise reached only on foot, which is worth knowing before you pack.

Route Overview

Pickup: Naples Airport (NAP)

Naples has one terminal, so there is only one arrivals hall to find your driver in. A private car is not a taxi and does not use the taxi rank in front of arrivals. The airport gives any other car 15 minutes on its roads before a camera-issued fine of €80 to €318, and its P1 car park has the first 45 minutes free, which is where a driver waiting for a delayed flight parks. The airport reserves separate areas for licensed private-hire cars but does not publish where they are. Confirm the exact meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat before you fly.

Popular Pickup Points:

• The single arrivals hall
• P1 car park for a waiting driver
• Licensed private-hire pick-up areas
• Terminal open 03:30 to 22:30

Drop-off: Amalfi town

Licensed private-hire cars set passengers down in the Flavio Gioia I area on the seafront, which the carrier books and pays for through the town's BusPass system: €10 at the time of writing for two stops of at most 5 minutes in the same day. Taxis and private-hire cars may also drive into the limited-traffic zone inland from Piazza Duomo, without parking, and must be out within 60 minutes. Whether the car can reach your door depends on the street, so send the hotel's address and ask the hotel how its guests arrive.

Popular Drop-off Points:

• Flavio Gioia I set-down area, seafront
• Piazza Duomo and the main street, 60-minute access
• The pier, for an onward boat
• Hotels on the coast road either side of town

🕐

Best Travel Times

Summer is the busy side of the year at Naples Airport. In 2025 August was its busiest month and January its quietest, with more than twice the passengers, and every month from April to October was busy. Amalfi itself posts traffic wardens at 5 points in town from 09:00 to 19:00 from 1 April, which is the Comune's own measure of when its streets are under pressure.

🚦

Traffic Patterns

After the motorway the drive is a mountain road for about 28 km. Operators who drive the route publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes. The direct coach, which uses the coast road from Vietri instead, is timetabled at 1 hour 50 minutes and warns that traffic can delay it.

🛣️

Road & Border Notes

No border. On the A3 a car without a transponder pays €2.30 at the toll station in 2026, with no ticket to take; a taller van or minibus pays €2.40. The plate rule covers only the SS163 coast road, about 40 km from Vietri sul Mare to Positano. On that road, vehicles up to 2.10 m wide and 6.00 m long may run in both directions, which covers a car and a standard passenger van.

💡

Carrier Tip

Give the carrier your hotel's street address, not just Amalfi, and say how many cases you have. The set-down on the seafront is limited to 5 minutes, so ask your hotel before you fly how guests with luggage reach it from the square. Ask the carrier to confirm the meeting point at Naples in the booking chat, and whether the A3 toll and the Amalfi set-down fee are inside the offer.

When to Travel This Route

Demand, pricing, and what to expect across the year.

❄️

Winter (Dec-Feb)

Low Demand

January was the quietest month at Naples Airport in 2025. The plate rule is off, the boat from Naples has no timetable after 3 November 2026, and the direct coach showed no bookable rides for mid-November when we checked. A winter arrival is a road arrival, in a booked car.

  • No boat timetable after 3 November 2026
  • Plate rule off
  • No coach rides bookable for mid-November when checked
🌸

Spring (Mar-May)

Medium Demand

The coast switches back on in stages. In 2026 the plate rule ran every day in Easter week, from 30 March to 6 April, and again over the late-April bridge to 2 May. The boat season starts on 1 April, and so do the town's traffic wardens.

  • Plate rule in Easter week and the late-April bridge
  • Boat season from 1 April
  • Extra sailings from 1 May
☀️

Summer (Jun-Aug)

Peak Demand

August was the busiest month at Naples Airport in 2025, with more than twice January's passengers. The plate rule applies on weekends and holidays from 30 May to the end of July and every day in August, 10:00 to 18:00. Book the transfer when you book the flight, and plan on the operators' 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes.

  • Plate rule every day in August
  • Busiest months at the airport
  • Traffic wardens in Amalfi, 09:00 to 19:00
🍂

Autumn (Sep-Nov)

High Demand

September keeps the plate rule every day, and October keeps it on weekends and holidays until the 31st. Then one notice overrides the rest: Naples Airport will be closed for runway work in November 2026, on dates not yet published. The boat timetable ends on 3 November 2026, and the direct coach showed no bookable rides for mid-November when we checked.

  • Naples Airport runway closure in November 2026
  • Plate rule ends 31 October
  • Boat timetable ends 3 November 2026

Important Information

The November 2026 Runway Closure
The operator's notice of 21 September 2026 says Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and it names no first or last day. If your trip falls in that month, ask your airline which airport the flight uses, and book the transfer from that airport.
Meeting Your Driver at Naples Airport
Naples has one terminal and one arrivals hall. Your driver meets you there, not at the taxi rank in front of arrivals. The airport gives a car 15 minutes on its roads before a camera-issued fine of €80 to €318, and the P1 car park has the first 45 minutes free, so a driver waiting for a delayed flight parks there. The airport reserves separate pick-up areas for licensed private-hire cars but does not publish where they are, so confirm the meeting point with your carrier in the booking chat before you fly.
Where the Car Stops in Amalfi
The town's set-down area for licensed private-hire cars is Flavio Gioia I, on the seafront. The carrier books it through the BusPass system, which currently costs €10 and allows two stops of at most 5 minutes in the same day. The limited-traffic zone is the main street inland from Piazza Duomo; taxis and private-hire cars may enter it without parking and must leave within 60 minutes. Ask your hotel how guests with luggage reach it from the square.
The Plate Rule on the Coast Road
On restricted days the SS163 is closed from 10:00 to 18:00 to cars whose plate ends in an odd digit on odd dates and an even digit on even dates. In 2026 that means weekends and holidays from 30 May to the end of July and in October, and every day in August and September. Taxis and licensed private-hire cars are excluded. Hotel guests in their own or a hire car may drive only to arrive and to leave.
The Naples Fixed Taxi Fare to Amalfi
The Comune di Napoli sets a fixed taxi fare of €155 per car to Amalfi, one way, day or night. It includes the airport, night, holiday and luggage supplements, and excludes motorway tolls and a €5 minivan supplement for more than 4 passengers or a 7 to 9 seat car. You must ask for the fixed fare at the start of the ride; the driver cannot refuse it, and the meter then shows F0.00.
Tolls
The A3 between Naples and Salerno charges at a toll station, with no ticket: €2.30 for a car without a transponder in 2026, €2.40 for a taller two-axle van or minibus. Figures of €3 to €9 circulate and are not the concessionaire's. Ask for the toll to be inside the offer.
Luggage on the Public Options
The direct coach counts luggage places per ride and asks for extra luggage at booking. The boat carries one bag up to 50x30x15 cm and 5 kg free and checks in anything larger for a fee. A private car takes what the vehicle you booked takes, so put the number of cases in the booking notes.
Child Seats
Carriers provide child seats on request, but you need to book them. Put each child's age in the booking notes, because a booster and a rear-facing infant seat are different equipment. Confirm the seat is in the offer before you pay.
If Your Flight Is Delayed
Your carrier monitors the flight and moves the pickup to match. The public options do not wait: the last direct coach leaves the airport at 21:00, and the boat timetable lists no direct sailing after 15:35. Give the carrier your flight number and confirm what waiting time is included.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take from Naples Airport to Amalfi by car?
On a clear road the routed drive from Naples Airport to Amalfi takes 66 minutes for about 65 km. Operators who drive the route publish 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 40 minutes, and no authority publishes a summer figure. The routed line is the A3 motorway, a short stretch of the SS145, then the SR366 over Agerola, joining the coast road for about the last 2 km into Amalfi.
Which road does a transfer take from Naples Airport to Amalfi?
The routed line from Naples Airport to Amalfi is the A1 link, about 18 km of the A3 motorway, then the SS145 and about 28 km of the SR366 over Agerola, reaching the SS163 coast road only about 2 km before Amalfi. It does not pass through Positano. The alternative is the A3 to Vietri sul Mare and the coast road west through Maiori, Minori and Atrani, which is the line the direct coach drives. Your carrier chooses on the day.
Does the Amalfi Coast alternating-plate rule apply to a private transfer?
No. Taxis and licensed private-hire cars (NCC) are excluded from the alternating-plate rule on the SS163, as the Comune di Amalfi states for 2026. The rule restricts other cars between 10:00 and 18:00 on weekends and holidays from 30 May to the end of July and in October, and every day in August and September. The Agerola road, which the routed line from Naples Airport uses, is outside the rule for all vehicles.
How much is a taxi from Naples Airport to Amalfi?
The Comune di Napoli sets a fixed taxi fare of €155 per car from Naples to Amalfi, one way, valid day and night. It includes the airport, night, holiday and luggage supplements, and excludes motorway tolls and a €5 minivan supplement for more than 4 passengers. Ask for the fixed fare at the start of the ride; the driver cannot refuse it. Four people sharing it pay €38.75 each before tolls. A private transfer is quoted per vehicle before you fly, sized to your group and luggage.
Is there a direct bus from Naples Airport to Amalfi?
Yes. A direct coach is timetabled from Naples Airport to Amalfi five times a day, at 10:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00 and 21:00, and takes 1 hour 50 minutes to Piazza Flavio Gioia by the coast road from Vietri sul Mare. The fare was €20 a person when read in September 2026, so €80 for four. It boards at the airport's tourist bus parking, warns that traffic can delay it, and showed no bookable rides for mid-November when we checked. A private car leaves when you land and carries the group for one quoted price.
Can I take a ferry from Naples to Amalfi after landing?
In season, yes, with a bus ride first. The Alibus from Naples Airport to the port takes about 35 minutes and costs €5, and the boat from Molo Beverello, the port's hydrofoil pier, to Amalfi costs €32.50 one way. Its 2026 timetable runs from 1 April to 3 November, with sailings at 10:00, 10:40 and 15:35 every day and two more from 1 May; the 10:40 changes ship at Capri. The boat carries one small bag free and charges for larger ones. A private transfer runs all year and at any landing time.
Where can a private driver drop me off in Amalfi?
Licensed private-hire cars set down in the Flavio Gioia I area on the Amalfi seafront, which the carrier books through the town's BusPass system for stops of at most 5 minutes. Amalfi's limited-traffic zone is the main street inland from Piazza Duomo; taxis and private-hire cars may enter it without parking and must leave within 60 minutes. Send your carrier the hotel address so the set-down point is agreed before you travel.
Is there a toll between Naples Airport and Amalfi?
Yes, on the A3 motorway. On the A3 between Naples and Salerno a car without a transponder pays €2.30 at the toll station in 2026, with no ticket to take, and a taller two-axle van or minibus pays €2.40. The Naples fixed taxi fare excludes tolls. Ask your carrier to state the toll inside the offer.
Can I stop at Pompeii on the way from Naples Airport to Amalfi?
Yes. The Pompeii excavations are beside the A3, about 28 km from Naples Airport, on the way to Amalfi. Suitcases and bags larger than 30x30x15 cm are not allowed inside the site, and left luggage at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances is paid, so a private car waiting with your cases is the simple answer. Agree the waiting time in the offer when you book.
Is Naples Airport closed in November 2026?
In November 2026, yes, on dates not yet published. The airport's operator announced on 21 September 2026 that Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for runway renovation work, and its notice does not give a first or last day. If you travel that month, confirm with your airline which airport your flight uses before you book ground transport.
How much does a private transfer from Naples Airport to Amalfi cost?
TransferBnB does not publish a fixed price for Naples Airport to Amalfi. You post the trip with your flight, passenger count and luggage, and verified carriers send offers per vehicle that you compare before you pay. For context, the Comune di Napoli's fixed taxi fare to Amalfi is €155 per car, tolls extra, with a €5 minivan supplement over 4 passengers. The offer should state whether the toll and the Amalfi set-down fee are included.

Why Book This Route?

  • •A licensed private-hire car is excluded from the coast road plate rule that restricts hire cars between 10:00 and 18:00 in season
  • •Your driver meets you in the one arrivals hall at Naples, with the meeting point confirmed in the booking chat, since the airport does not publish where private-hire cars wait
  • •The car leaves when you land: the direct coach has five departures a day and the last is at 21:00
  • •The set-down in Amalfi is agreed in advance, because the seafront stop is limited to 5 minutes and the old town is a limited-traffic zone
  • •Verified carriers compete for the job, and you see the vehicle and the confirmed total, toll included or not, before you pay

What our customers say

Thomas B. — London, UK

Driver was already outside arrivals when we landed in Geneva - he'd tracked the flight and knew we'd come through early. Three sets of skis loaded and we were on the road to Chamonix before most passengers had cleared customs.

Marta R. — Munich, Germany

Good experience. Chose from three offers for Munich Airport to Kitzbühel, picked the one with the best rating. Straightforward.

Olivier D. — Lyon, France

Four of us split the cost from Zurich Airport to St. Anton and came out cheaper than the shared shuttle per person - plus we went straight to the chalet door instead of stopping at every hotel in the valley. Hadn't expected it to work out that way but it did.

Sarah K. — Dublin, Ireland

Travelled with two small kids and a lot of luggage from Rome Fiumicino. I mentioned the stroller in the booking notes and the driver showed up with a large estate. No fuss.

Pieter V. — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eight people, Geneva to Verbier, all ski gear. One minibus, one price, door to chalet. We paid less per person than the shuttle and didn't have to share with anyone else.

Anna-Lisa M. — Vienna, Austria

I book private transfers for work fairly regularly across different platforms. What TransferBnB does differently is that you get the driver's name, direct number, vehicle, and plate before you travel - not just a confirmation number. For business trips where timing matters, that's the part that actually counts.
