Grenoble Alpes Isère Airport is the right airport for a ski holiday in Alpe d'Huez or Les Deux Alpes, as long as you can fly at a weekend. Winter is its busy season: one airline's calendar has flights on sale from 5 December 2026 to 10 April 2027, every route on Saturdays. The drive is about 1h 40min to Alpe d'Huez, 1h 45min to Les Deux Alpes and 2h 25min to Val Thorens.

This guide covers the winter 2026/27 flights, the place a driver may collect you, and the three drives with their tolls. Choosing between Grenoble, Lyon, Chambéry and Geneva by resort is a separate question, answered in our guide to which airport to use for the French Alps.

Read the days row before the distance rows. The drives are short for the Alps; the calendar is the constraint.

Is Grenoble Airport a good choice for a ski holiday?

Yes for the Oisans, and only sometimes for the Tarentaise.

Grenoble is the nearest airport to Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes, the two big resorts of the Oisans. In free-flowing traffic it is about 20 minutes nearer than Chambéry, 30 minutes nearer than Lyon Airport and about 1h 10min nearer than Geneva. The airport calls itself a "gateway to the snow" beside Alpe d'Huez, Les Deux Alpes and Chamrousse, and the map agrees.

The catch is the calendar. Grenoble handled 261,000 passengers in 2025, on VINCI Airports' traffic figures, and its site lists 11 destinations, 9 of them in the United Kingdom and Ireland. If your dates need a Tuesday flight, it probably does not exist. Lyon is half an hour further from the Oisans and handled about 40 times as many passengers, and our Lyon Airport transfer page covers the same resorts.

Val Thorens is the other case: Chambéry is about 45 minutes nearer, and Grenoble only about 5 minutes nearer than Lyon. The nearest-airport table for every Alpine ski resort has the wider picture.

Which airlines fly to Grenoble in winter 2026/27, and on which days?

Six airlines, by the airport's own list.

The airport lists Ryanair, British Airways, Jet2, Wizz Air, Blue Islands and easyJet. Its home page shows 11 destinations: Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, London Stansted, London Luton, Manchester, Newcastle, Dublin, Warsaw and Vilnius. It prints no opening or closing date for the season, though it is already recruiting seasonal staff for winter 2026/27.

The dates come from the airlines. We read Ryanair's booking calendar on 8 October 2026 for its six routes into Grenoble:

FromDays with a flight on saleFirst and last date
ManchesterFridays and Saturdays5 December 2026 to 10 April 2027
London StanstedThursdays, Saturdays and Sundays12 December 2026 to 10 April 2027
BristolSaturdays12 December 2026 to 10 April 2027
BirminghamSaturdays12 December 2026 to 10 April 2027
London LutonSaturdays12 December 2026 to 10 April 2027
DublinSaturdays and Sundays13 December 2026 to 4 April 2027

Source: Ryanair's availability calendar for each route, read on 8 October 2026; a handful of extra midweek dates on the Stansted and Dublin routes are left out. The other five airlines' calendars were not read.

Read down the days column. All six routes fly on Saturdays, three of them on Saturdays only, and only Stansted has a regular midweek day. The airport's charter page adds tour-operator flights from London Gatwick on Saturdays and Sundays.

Flight days that circulate for Grenoble often belong to another winter. Check the airline's calendar for your own date.

The lifts run longer than that calendar. Val Thorens opens on 21 November 2026, two weeks before the first flight in that calendar, and Alpe d'Huez closes on 25 April 2027 and Les Deux Alpes and Val Thorens on 2 May, two to three weeks after the last one. For the first and last weeks of the season, check that a flight exists before you plan around Grenoble.

Who runs Grenoble Airport, and where is it?

Edeis runs it, and it is not in Grenoble.

Edeis has operated the airport since 1 July 2026, as part of a group that runs 22 airports. VINCI Airports ran it before, which is why older guides, and the 2025 traffic figures, still carry the VINCI name. The airport opened in its present form for the 1968 Winter Olympic Games.

It stands at Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs in the Isère, 45 km and about 35 minutes by road from Grenoble's railway station, or 40 km in a straight line. Drivers reach it from exit 9 of the A 48, the Lyon to Grenoble motorway, then 11 km of the D 119.

Where does your driver meet you at Grenoble Airport?

In car park P2, not at the kerb.

The airport's parking page is blunt about it: passenger drop-off directly in front of the terminal building is no longer permitted, and stopping there is strictly prohibited. P2 is the car park for both long stays and drop-off, and its first 10 minutes are free. After that the tariff climbs in steps: €3 up to 15 minutes, €4 up to 30, €5 up to 45 and €6 up to an hour.

Three details catch people out. Parking cannot be booked in advance, the exit barrier takes cards only, and a ticket lost without proof of parking costs €400.

Guides that describe a kerbside pickup zone with 15 or 20 free minutes describe an airport that no longer exists.

The airport names an arrivals terminal and a departures terminal, but no meeting point and no zone for pre-booked drivers. So agree it before you fly: the door of the arrivals terminal, or the car in P2. On TransferBnB you settle that with your carrier in the booking chat.

How long is the transfer from Grenoble Airport to each resort?

Under two hours to the Oisans, two and a half to Val Thorens.

Sources: OpenStreetMap routing from the terminal forecourt, October 2026; AREA tariff from 1 February 2026; the airport's transport page and the coach operator's own dates. Saturday and snow delays are not in the drive times.

Read the coach column against your flight day. To the Oisans a shared coach is timed to the scheduled flights, by the airport's account. To Val Thorens it reaches the resort on Saturdays, and on every other day the choice is a private transfer, a taxi or a hire car.

How do you get from Grenoble Airport to Alpe d'Huez?

By road, in about 1h 40min, with one toll.

The car takes the D 119 to the A 48, passes Grenoble on the A 480, then follows the N 85 and the D 1091 up the Romanche valley to Le Bourg-d'Oisans, about 92 km from the terminal. From there the D 211 climbs to the resort: 21 numbered bends over 13.8 km at an average of 8.1%, by the tourist office's count. The whole drive is about 106 km.

The toll is €3.90 each way for a car, paid once at the Voreppe barrier on the A 48, so €7.80 for the return trip. Figures that circulate widely put it at zero. The car joins the motorway at the Rives toll station, about 10 minutes from the terminal, and the AREA tariff prices Rives to Voreppe at €3.90.

Book early for one week: Tomorrowland Winter runs in Alpe d'Huez from 20 to 27 March 2027, with nearly 22,000 festival-goers expected. The climb, the drop in the resort and the public alternative are on our Grenoble Airport to Alpe d'Huez page.

How long is the drive from Grenoble Airport to Les Deux Alpes?

About 1h 45min, by the signed road.

The first 92 km are the Alpe d'Huez drive. At Le Bourg-d'Oisans the car stays on the D 1091 toward Briançon as far as the Chambon dam, then turns right up the D 213, a 10 km climb. Those are the resort's own directions. The routed drive measures about 115 km; the resort gives 120.

The toll is the same €3.90 each way, because the motorway stretch is the same. The season and the drop are on our Grenoble Airport to Les Deux Alpes page.

Is Grenoble a sensible airport for Val Thorens?

It works, but it is not the nearest.

The drive is about 188 km and 2h 25min in free-flowing traffic. The car follows the A 48 to Grenoble, the A 41 up the Grésivaudan valley, the A 43 and the A 430 to Albertville, then the N 90 into the Tarentaise as far as Moûtiers, about 151 km from the terminal. Exit 40 and the D 117 do the rest.

The Val Thorens tourist office measures a little differently from the routed line and puts Chambéry at 122 km, Grenoble at 194 km, Lyon at 199 km and Geneva at 201 km. Chambéry is about 45 minutes nearer by road.

Fly to Grenoble for Val Thorens because the flight suits you, not because of the map.

Tolls come to €14.40 each way for a car, in two payments: €3.90 at Voreppe, then €10.50 between the Crolles and Sainte-Hélène barriers. The €10.50 that circulates is the second payment alone. A return trip is €28.80. The road above Moûtiers and the arrival point in the resort are on our Grenoble Airport to Val Thorens page.

Is there a train or a bus from Grenoble Airport to the ski resorts?

No train serves the airport; buses and coaches do.

The airport bus runs from the departures terminal to Grenoble's central railway station in about 40 minutes. The bus station is 50 m away, and regional buses climb to the Oisans from there, with Les Deux Alpes 70 km up the road. For Val Thorens the nearest station is Moûtiers, 37 km below the resort.

Shared ski coaches also leave from the terminal. To Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes the airport says they connect with every scheduled flight through the week; to Val Thorens the coach operator's own dates are Saturdays, from 12 December 2026 to 3 April 2027, and its Sunday runs stop at Moûtiers.

A coach seat is a sensible buy for one or two people on a flight it meets, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It keeps the coach's clock and stops at the coach's stop. A private transfer leaves when your bags arrive and stops at your door, and our shared against private price comparison shows where a group closes the gap.

What does a Saturday do to the drive from Grenoble Airport?

Saturday is when the flights land and the roads fill.

Every route in the calendar above flies on Saturdays, and Saturday is changeover day in the resorts. The French winter school holidays put five Saturdays in the frame: 6, 13, 20 and 27 February and 6 March 2027, on the official school calendar. The Christmas holidays run from 19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027.

The Val Thorens road shows the scale. The N 90 between Albertville and Moûtiers carries about 25,000 vehicles a day on average and up to 70,000 on some winter Saturdays, nearly three times as many, according to DIR Centre-Est, the State road service. We found no official delay figure in minutes for these roads, so this guide prints none.

A line of cars on a snow-lined valley road on a changeover Saturday

Winter equipment is the other fixed rule. From 1 November to 31 March a car in the Oisans needs four winter tyres, or chains or snow socks for at least two drive wheels, as the valley's tourist board states it, and in Savoie the same period applies across the whole department. Hire cars at the airport are a winter desk, open from December to April. A private transfer leaves the tyres and the chains to the carrier.

Leave margin on those five Saturdays, and give your carrier the flight number.

What does a transfer from Grenoble Airport cost?

There is no official fare to anchor on.

The airport publishes no taxi fare table, and taxis are booked by phone. This guide prints no transfer price. TransferBnB is a marketplace, so the price comes from the offers verified local carriers send for your trip.

Compare any quote per vehicle, not per seat. Our piece on what a family really pays for a ski transfer does that arithmetic against a hire car, the train and the bus.

Compare offers for your Grenoble Airport transfer

One request is all it takes. Whether you are six with ski bags or two with a board bag, it carries the same three things: flight number, resort, number of people. Post it on the Grenoble Airport transfer page, or go straight to Alpe d'Huez, Les Deux Alpes or Val Thorens. Verified carriers reply with offers, you choose one, and you agree the meeting point at the arrivals terminal or in P2 in the booking chat. The rest of the French resorts are in our complete French Alps ski transfer guide.
