The Alpine winter of 2026/27 opens with the World Cup in Sölden on 24 and 25 October 2026 and peaks with the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, from 1 to 14 February 2027. January is the busiest month, with Adelboden, Wengen, Kitzbühel and Schladming in four straight weeks. Innsbruck, Munich, Zurich and Geneva between them serve most of the venues.

When are the World Cup races in the Alps this winter?
From 24 October 2026 to 28 February 2027, at 23 venues in the Alps.
The 2026/27 Alpine Ski World Cup has 43 men's and 40 women's races. The table below is every stop in the Alps except Kranjska Gora in Slovenia (men 2 and 3 January, women 29 and 30 January), plus Soldeu in the Pyrenees, with the airport and the transfer. It leaves out the races outside the Alps and the finals in Sun Valley, USA.
Four venues of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, which closed on 22 February 2026, are back on the circuit: Bormio, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Anterselva for biathlon and Val di Fiemme for cross-country.

The women's circuit is where most calendars thin out: St Moritz, Courchevel, Gosau, Flachau, Val di Fassa, Kronplatz, Lenzerheide and the Garmisch weekend are all women-only, and together they add a second race to almost every week of the winter.
Two stops are often listed wrong. Garmisch's women race two downhills on 27 and 28 February, not a downhill and a super-G, and Courchevel hosts one women's slalom before Christmas and no speed races at all.

What is on in October and November?
The glacier opener, then a second weekend in the same valley.
Sölden opens the World Cup on the Rettenbach glacier: the women's giant slalom on Saturday 24 October 2026 and the men's on Sunday 25 October, with the World Cup shuttle from the valley included in every ticket. Gurgl brings the World Cup back to the Ötztal four weeks later. The women's slalom is on Saturday 21 November and the men's on Sunday 22 November, and a standing ticket costs €34 for an adult. Innsbruck Airport to Obergurgl is about 94 km and 1h 20min by road.
November is also when the lifts start turning. Cervinia opens on 24 October, Tignes and Val Thorens on 21 November, Ischgl on 26 November and Val d'Isère on 28 November 2026. Ischgl marks the start with its Top of the Mountain opening concert on 28 November, headlined by Westlife.
Which races are on in December?
Eight World Cup venues, plus biathlon and ski jumping.
December opens with biathlon in Hochfilzen, Tyrol, from 4 to 6 December, then Le Grand-Bornand above Annecy from 10 to 13 December, where the organiser says the car parks cannot hold every spectator and runs shuttles from Annecy and Thônes for €3 return.
The Alpine season in Europe starts properly with the Critérium de la Première Neige in Val d'Isère, the men's giant slalom on 12 December and slalom on 13 December; the weekend tribune pass is €65, and Geneva Airport is about 225 km away.
The following weekend is the densest of the month. The men race the Saslong in Val Gardena, super-G on 18 December and downhill on 19 December, while the women race two super-Gs and a giant slalom in St Moritz from 18 to 20 December. Then the men move one valley east to the Gran Risa in Alta Badia for the giant slalom on Sunday 20 December and its first night slalom on Monday 21 December. Ski jumping fills the same weekend in Engelberg, Switzerland, on 19 and 20 December.
Christmas week keeps the floodlights on, with night slaloms in Courchevel on 22 December and Madonna di Campiglio on 23 December.
Between races, December is market season: Salzburg's Christkindlmarkt runs from 19 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, Innsbruck's Old Town market to 23 December and Munich's on Marienplatz to 24 December, and the Krampus runs are in Salzburg on 5 December and across the Gastein valley on 5 and 6 December. The three changeover Saturdays over the holidays are 19 December, 26 December and 2 January. Avoid them for arrivals if your race allows it.
When is the Four Hills Tournament 2026/27?
From 28 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, with women for the first time.
The 75th Four Hills Tournament is also the first women's Four Hills, confirmed by FIS in May 2026. At every hill the women jump the day before the men:
- Oberstdorf, Germany - women Monday 28 December (qualification 13:30, first round 15:15), men Tuesday 29 December at 16:30.
- Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany - women Thursday 31 December at 14:00, men on New Year's Day at 16:30.
- Innsbruck Bergisel, Austria - women Saturday 2 January at 15:30, men Sunday 3 January at 16:30.
- Bischofshofen, Austria - women Tuesday 5 January at 14:15, men Wednesday 6 January at 16:30.
Several calendars still start the tournament on 29 December; the women open it on the 28th.
Innsbruck is the easy one: Innsbruck Airport to the city is about 5 km and 10 minutes, from €35, and the Bergisel sits above the city. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is about 125 km and 1h 20 to 1h 30min from Munich Airport, from €200. For Oberstdorf, Munich is the usual gateway, and Bischofshofen is served by Salzburg Airport.
The same two days carry the men's downhill and super-G in Bormio on 28 and 29 December, back on the Stelvio after the 2026 Olympics, and the first World Cup races in Gosau, a women's giant slalom and slalom at Dachstein West. Davos hosts ice hockey's Spengler Cup from 26 to 31 December. For New Year's Eve, Val d'Isère's free snow-front party, 21:00 to 01:00 with midnight fireworks, is one of the few programmes published so far.
Why is January the month to go?
Because the four most famous men's races fall in four straight weeks.
The month opens under floodlights in Flachau, with the women's night giant slalom on Monday 4 January and the night slalom on Tuesday 5 January. Munich Airport to Flachau is 185 km and about 2h 15min, from €190. Biathlon's Ruhpolding World Cup runs from 6 to 10 January, day tickets from €32.
The weekend of 9 and 10 January has three strands. The men race Adelboden's Chuenisbärgli, giant slalom Saturday and slalom Sunday. The women race a new speed venue, Val di Fassa's La VolatA at Passo San Pellegrino, where the pass road may close from 08:30 to 11:30 on race days and free shuttles run from Moena for ticket holders. The Tour de Ski finishes in Val di Fiemme on 10 January with the Final Climb up Alpe Cermis.
Wengen is the middle weekend: the Lauberhorn super-G on Friday 15 January at 12:30, the downhill on Saturday 16 January at 12:30, and the slalom on Sunday 17 January. Wengen has no road. Every Lauberhorn ticket includes the train from Interlaken Ost and back. Fly into Zurich: Zurich Airport to Interlaken is about 120 km and 1h 30min, from €260. The women race two downhills and a super-G in Cortina d'Ampezzo the same weekend, biathlon runs at Antholz-Anterselva from 14 to 17 January, and freestyle's Laax Open runs from 13 to 16 January with its finals on the Saturday.
Then comes Kitzbühel. The Hahnenkamm races are the super-G on Friday 22 January at 11:30, the downhill on the Streif on Saturday 23 January at 11:30, and the slalom on Sunday 24 January. Training from 19 to 21 January is free to watch. Munich Airport to Kitzbühel is about 166 km and 1h 55min, from €190, and Innsbruck Airport to Kitzbühel is about 100 km and 1h 25min, also from €190.
That same week Kronplatz hosts a women's giant slalom on 19 January, free to watch, Mürren runs the Inferno Races from 20 to 23 January and St Moritz the Snow Polo World Cup from 22 to 24 January. Davos hosts the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting from 18 to 22 January, and Zurich Airport to Davos is about 150 km and 2 hours by road, from €370.
January closes at night in Schladming, with the Nightrace giant slalom on Tuesday 26 January and slalom on Wednesday 27 January. Schladming's organiser warns of heavy traffic on both days, with police directing cars to the car parks. The men's slalom in Chamonix, the Kandahar, closes the month on Saturday 30 January at Les Houches.
Which World Cup races run at night?
Five Alpine venues this winter, and three of them race on consecutive nights before Christmas.
FIS lists every race below as a night event:
- Alta Badia - men's slalom, Monday 21 December 2026.
- Courchevel - women's slalom, Tuesday 22 December 2026.
- Madonna di Campiglio - men's 3Tre slalom, Wednesday 23 December 2026, runs at 17:45 and 21:00.
- Flachau - women's giant slalom Monday 4 January and slalom Tuesday 5 January 2027.
- Schladming - men's giant slalom Tuesday 26 January and slalom Wednesday 27 January 2027.
Both Italian night races fall before Christmas, so a January ski week in Italy has none. Flachau's are on 4 and 5 January, not the mid-January dates that last season's listings still show.
Night races change the transfer. At Madonna the second run starts at 21:00 and the free shuttles from the outer car parks run until 23:30, so the evening ends late and in the snow. A driver booked for after the race waits for you; a bus timetable doesn't.
How do you get to the 2027 World Championships in Crans-Montana?
Fly into Geneva, then 181 km by road to the Valais.
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships run from Monday 1 to Sunday 14 February 2027 on the Mont Lachaux and Nationale slopes above Crans-Montana. The schedule, as FIS publishes it:

Pick the weekend by discipline: speed fans want 6 and 7 February, technical fans 13 and 14 February.
Geneva Airport to Crans-Montana is about 181 km, which the resort puts at 1h 55min to Sierre in the valley and 2h 30min to the resort. During the Championships the road up is the hard part: the Barzettes road is closed between the Etoile roundabout and Aminona every day from 1 to 14 February, from 06:00 to 15:00, to anyone without a pass, and the Plumachit and Nationale road is closed from 07:30 to 15:00 with no vehicle access at all.
Crans-Montana has no railway station: the way up by rail is the 13-minute funicular from Sierre, and the organiser says public transport between the valley and the resort will be free during the Championships. That is the answer for race mornings. For the arrival itself, with ski bags and a family, a private transfer from Geneva goes to the hotel door the day before the first race, while the roads are still open to everyone.
Tickets are all standing and unnumbered, with the final sale phase from 1 October 2026; children up to 5 go free. There's no live TransferBnB route page for Crans-Montana yet, so ask for a quote from the Geneva Airport page.
What else is on in February and March?
Carnival, horses on ice, and the last speed weekends.
Switzerland's carnival lands inside the Championships fortnight. Lucerne's Fasnacht runs from Thursday 4 to Tuesday 9 February, and Basel's starts with the Morgestraich at 04:00 on Monday 15 February and runs to Wednesday 17 February. In St Moritz, White Turf races horses on the frozen lake on three Sundays: 7, 14 and 21 February.
The World Cup returns to Germany and Austria for the last Alpine speed weekends. The men race the downhill and super-G on the Kandahar in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on 20 and 21 February, and the women race two super-Gs in Lenzerheide the same weekend. On 27 and 28 February the women take over the Kandahar for two downhills, while the men race a downhill and super-G in Saalbach, whose ski area stays open so spectators can ski to the finish.
March is the snowboard and freestyle month. The FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships run in the Montafon, in Austria's Vorarlberg, from 6 to 21 March 2027, a second world championship in the Alps this winter that most event calendars leave out. The snowboard finals run from the parallel giant slalom on 7 March to the team snowboard cross on 21 March. Both halfpipes are at Kühtai in Tyrol, near Innsbruck, and a Montafon transfer is quoted on request.
The same weekend, the women's World Cup visits Soldeu in Andorra, giant slalom on 6 March and slalom on 7 March. The Engadin Skimarathon runs from Maloja to S-chanf on Sunday 14 March.
After that the season's last big date is in St Anton. Der Weisse Rausch sends 555 skiers down from the Vallugagrat in a mass start at 17:00 on Saturday 17 April 2027, and registration opens on 1 December 2026. Which festivals and concerts are on this winter?
Mostly in March and April, with two December exceptions.
The Stanton Ski Open in St Anton runs from 4 to 6 December 2026 and Rave on Snow in Saalbach from 10 to 13 December. Spring brings Snowboxx in Avoriaz from 13 to 20 March, Tomorrowland Winter in Alpe d'Huez from 20 to 27 March, Snowbombing in Mayrhofen from 5 to 10 April, Zermatt Unplugged from 6 to 10 April and the Electric Mountain Festival in Sölden from 12 to 17 April 2027. Ischgl's Top of the Mountain concerts follow on 28 March, 17 April and 1 May, artists not yet announced. For Snowbombing, Innsbruck Airport to Mayrhofen is about 75 km, from €125.
Which airport should you fly into for each event?
The one closest to the valley, not the one with the most flights.
- Innsbruck - Sölden, Gurgl, the Bergisel jump, Kitzbühel and the Dolomites.
- Munich - Kitzbühel, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Flachau, Saalbach, Oberstdorf and Ruhpolding.
- Salzburg - Schladming, Gosau, Bischofshofen, and Saalbach, which is 90 km from Salzburg against 220 km from Munich.
- Zurich - Wengen, Adelboden, St Moritz, Lenzerheide, Laax and Davos.
- Geneva - Crans-Montana, Val d'Isère, Courchevel, Chamonix and Le Grand-Bornand.
The Dolomites are where most advice goes wrong, and Bolzano and Innsbruck are the answer. Figures that circulate widely send Val Gardena and Alta Badia spectators to Verona, but Bolzano is 43 km from Val Gardena and 74 km from Alta Badia, and Innsbruck is 115 km and 133 km, against Verona's 191 km and 247 km. Verona is right for Madonna di Campiglio at 176 km, and Venice for Cortina at 149 km.
For the Bernese Oberland the same mistake runs the other way. Zurich is 194 km from Wengen by road, Geneva 229 km.
How do you get to a race without parking?
Leave the car behind: the classic races keep spectator cars away from the finish.
- Kitzbühel - the streets between the town centre and the race area close to traffic on race days, and the Hahnenkammbahn and Ganslern car parks shut for the week. Park free at Oberndorf, Kirchberg or Kitzbühel Süd and ride the free shuttle train, which runs every 7.5 minutes at peak times between Kirchberg and St Johann. On downhill Saturday, be parked by 09:00.
- Wengen - no road at all. Trains from Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald Terminal, included in the ticket from Interlaken Ost.
- Adelboden - no event parking. Park and ride at Reichenbach or the train to Frutigen, then the included shuttle.
The shuttle trains are the right answer on race morning, and we won't pretend otherwise.
The catch is getting to the start of them. A 09:00 parking deadline in Oberndorf means a Saturday-morning drive on a road full of people chasing the same car park. Arrive the day before with a driver instead and race morning is a walk to the station, and the same car collects you after the Sunday slalom.

Tickets on the day they open, transfers once the hotel is confirmed.

Compare transfers for your race weekend
Picture Saturday 23 January. The downhill starts at 11:30, and you're already in Kitzbühel because a driver met you at Munich arrivals on Friday and dropped you at your hotel. On Sunday evening the same car is waiting after the slalom.

Can you drive to Wengen for the Lauberhorn?
No. Wengen is car-free and the road ends at Lauterbrunnen, from where trains climb to the village. The 2027 Lauberhorn races are the super-G on 15 January, the downhill on 16 January and the slalom on 17 January, and every ticket includes the train from Interlaken Ost and back. Oberstdorf is 28 and 29 December, Garmisch-Partenkirchen 31 December and 1 January, Innsbruck 2 and 3 January, and Bischofshofen 5 and 6 January. It is the tournament's 75th edition.

Five Alpine World Cup venues race under floodlights: Alta Badia (men's slalom, 21 December), Courchevel (women's slalom, 22 December) and Madonna di Campiglio (men's slalom, 23 December 2026), then Flachau (women's giant slalom and slalom, 4 and 5 January) and Schladming (men's giant slalom and slalom, 26 and 27 January 2027). There is no Italian night race in January this season.
